Should i come back

black_ifritblack_ifrit Member Posts: 45

I played rift from beta till about three months in. I didnt quite because it wasnt fun my guild left and I didnt have the time to start up a new one on my own. I could have searched for a new guild but I never really had any luck with that so I just left the game. But now that SL is out and all the things they have changed and added, I was thinking of coming back. But before i go and pick up the ex-pack i was hoping someone could answer just a few questions?

1. How populated are the lower lvl areas?

2. How is the housing, do you get bonuses of any kind like for harvesting or pve?

3. Is the world pvp still going on or did it die out?

4. Can you find dungeon groups easily or will have have to skip some?

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Be wary of games whose forums appear mostly dead here is all i can say. I keep an eye on rift, but its a pure subgame, and those do rather badly these days.

I can vouch for a healthy server population for games like Planetside 2, LotRO, GW2, TSW and even SWToR. Rift just got an awesome expansion(imho), but i wouldn't buy a longterm sub ... just to be on the safe side.

half of rift forum on mmorpg isfilled with " storm legion is bestexpansion ever in any mmorpg " and you ask questions asked 200  times before, maybe people just got tired of reading and aswering , if you played before you would know there are free unlimited transfers, switch to high pop server anytime youwant..

Quite a bit has changed/improved since 3 months post launch. Recommend you browse this thread:

    http://forums.riftgame.com/rift-general-discussions/newcomers/339018-welcome-back-guide-whats-changed.html

    1. Due to Rift Lite, the recent launch of the expansion, and the fact that there aren't many starter zones, low level areas actually have decent population. I was actually in Gloomwood catching up my fishing today and a raid of 20 or so level 25's were taking on a zone-event. I see groups doing RIfts in Silverwood often as well, at least a lot more than I used to.

    2. I don't do the housing thing in games much but from what I have done it is pretty good. Game critics and players both highly praise it. It is sandbox style and Trion stated that it is just a foundation at this time while more utility may be added in the future such as vault storage, crafting, etc.

    3. Conquest mode is pretty popular, 3 faction PvP, feels like open world in a way. I don't play on the PvP server so I am not sure about it as far as actual open world PvP.

    4. Yes, using dungeon finder or a descent guild you can find them. All NA servers are one battlegroup now so queue times have been drastically reduced across the board, the new Mentoring system and cross faction grouping further reduced wait times. Right now the majority of people are doing normals and gearing up for experts or are transitioning to them. Though, like WoW for example, if you play a tank or healer your queues will be faster, DPS takes a little longer. Level 10-50 you are probably better off doing quests/IA/WF.

I have recently just resubscribed to RIFT post leaving after getting a LvL 50 pre SL so I will give you my own personal opinion on the game and its current state.

    1. I re-rolled as a cleric on Wolfsbane one of the most populated servers, I am constantly coming across people and the low level areas are very populated, during zone events you usually have 10 - 25ish people joining up in public groups to finish the zone event (this is minus the high levels that turn up) Im sure this is helped by the unlimited trial to lvl 20 however post the lvl 20 areas the game continues to be fairly populated with the cities always feeling crowed and busy at all times of the day.

    2. Housing is amazing, you can put anything anywhere and move it in any way you want, flip it, rotate it, place it, enlarge it set all the parameters of who visits and they also have public UI interface where people can enter your house / dimensions if you allow them, they can then rate these if you make a really good place and it gets rated the highest you can move up and  down the popular list ect. As for bonuses no there are no real world bonuses attached to this as its more of a side / fluff thing.

    3. There continues to be world PVP with the PVP rifts which give in-game bonuses, outside of this it is more instance stuff however the conquest mode is nice witch is a 3 team match fighting over points ect

    4. Dungeon groups are very easy to find with the finder tool, My average wait time when queued up as a healer or DPS is no greater than 15 minutes normally and during peak times I usually get instant queues. The allocation of role is usally about 60% healer 40% dps and I have noticed no real difference in the queue times, I have yet to miss one instance. On this note queue times for PVP are also very low with peak times in the 1min - 15min mark depending on what specific pvp map you want or 1-5min for random queue

Server population also remains quite healthy I know that server population status are controlled by the Trion themselves but if it means anything during peak times 3 - 4 worlds are normally high with one or two sometimes having queues as they are full while the others are all medium.

Rift is at the stage now where it has a tight nit community and is travelling along steadily, they must be going alright for money and subs as they continue to pump out content much faster than the bigger companies

Once again these are my personal opinions and views, hope they helped
