Alot of people are joining all the time. And as you grow into the game you get more and more out of it.
Small platoons are starting to build up and a few strategists are showing up.
Personaly i enjoy playing on Esamir, It's a snowie place and i like the way it's built.
Play a few weaks on and off, and dont care so much about joining squads in the beginning. At least not if you do not have a headset. I few irl friends and i have started an outfit now. And we are looking forward to design our outfits and start some real team efforts.
At first i was dissapointed, but i told myself that i should stick with it until i got better and didnt die as much. And it's realy getting alot more fun now.
Why do i write this? It's so many out there that burns the game if they get angry while playing it. It's so easy to just write, it sucks... and be done with it. I just wanna tell that the game is realy good. Enjoy it.

I wonder about the reasons you and others like esamir. After my testing of all 3, I found esamir had the best fps out of all of them by almost double. On Esamir I can get almost 100fps on very decent settings. You take those same settings to either of the other 2 and you are down to 40-60fps. I wonder if, without people actually knowing it, that the better fps on esamir is what is actually drawing them to it.
Now onto the meat of your post. The game hasn't actually gotten any better. They haven't radically changed anything yet, they have not put in their big patch to fix a lot of the performance issues that people all over their forums have had to deal with since release. I still constantly fall through the world at least once every couple nights. I still see severe rendering issues, network code that favors the faster pc, Rampant hacking on my server. There are at least 3 right now that I see almost every single time I play, that have been hacking since almost day 1. They are reported every single day and yet these people are still there.
Stratagy, you know what I see on my server, especially now during the double xp? There is really only 2 things going on most of the time. You have the folks that are going around taking empty places and not defending them, so you have this nice circle of factions doing this over and over again to get the xp and not worry about defending. The ONE exception to this is the bio labs. They do like to turn the bio labs into a cert grind. The rest of the places, not so much. Capture and release, thats how they roll.
I think your title is misleading. What it should say is that You are getting better and better. The game is still pretty much like it was prior to you getting better. Now don't get me wrong, I think when they fix these major issues, the game is going to be much more fun, but the question really has to be, is it to late? Did they release with to many issues in a first person shooter that people wont give them a second chance? I think that part is up in the air. I am sticking around for a little while to see what they do, but I know many folks who have already left because of these issues.
Game is fun - but can get frustrating. Too much armor and air. Continent imbalances. No fighting on other continents other than Indar. Still have hacks and cheats being used. No real reason to defend a base because you get no EXP for defending. Better to let them take the base than come and take it back. Hate that AMS no longer have invisibility cloak. Makes it easier to spot and destroy them. I speciallize in getting rid of them. At 700 EXP a pop, you can level fast in this game off killing AMS's. Especially ones loaded with a squad.
We need better anti-air and anti-tank weapons. Right now Planetside 2 is who can put the most of these two up and thrown at the enemy. It gets stupid silly seeing massive columns of tanks and even sillier yet seeing so much aircraft in one spot. They need to bring back the orbital strike - or something like it.
I really do like the game - but it is deeply flawed. Needs lots of work or like the first Panetside this game too will linger a slow and painful death.
I hope so and actually it can only get better, but dont think the core game will change much.
Maybe you are right there Doomsday. I am getting better and better and therefor the game itselfs feels better and better.
I have played alot of games in my life and i bet you have to. Falling thrue the ground and graphic glitches are more a sure thing when a game releases. Atleast i didnt even think about it until you wrote. Im so use to it that i didnt even see it as a problem. Howerver, it is a problem ofc. And i realy hope they fix it.
Another thing i notices that someone wrote about was that it was to little vihicles in the game. And accualy that is also true. They have made the lightning specable so you can make a "skyguard" etc. And they remade it to a bullet version insted of flak. Even so the fact remains. Where is the harraser, skyguard, marauder?? I hope we will see them put some in.
I am going to keep on playing the game. Also i am a fan of paying for my games. So i shop alittle and went premium. The reson is obvious. I like to support the games i want to become better. I bet im the companys favorite, witch might be wrong or right i dont give so much thought about that. And with that said ofc i understand that people dont want to pay for something to be developed but rather pay for something that someone has developed already.
Hope i will se alot of you guys around though. Personaly i play on Ceres server (if i got the spelling right) NC faction. I play on Esamir almost 99% of the time and im allways outnumbered by the VS. It's usualy 60/20/20 between VS/NC/TR.
But i still love fighting, even if im not on the side that allways win in the end :P
An interesting thing that I've observed is, people who like the concept of total combined arms conflict in a game seems to like PS2 (which is interesting in itself since combined arms is the true "Modern Warfare", whereas the game Modern Warfare has none of the element of modern warfare ie, armor and air)
People who like a more pure fps seems to like PS1 better.
It is a good game because it is free, I wouldn't pay for it. The problems that I have noticed are correctable by having a solid group.
1) Death from above; once a side gets air dominance it's all over; granted it's realistic but it's not real fun to be on the recieving end of this. The highest ranking players seem to never leave the air and they never seem get destroyed.
2) Winners win: as a side wins , winning becomes eaiser. More resources for more air and ground vehicles, it's a positive feedback that will leave one faction dominating. The losing faction(s) have less and less means to effectivley resist asnd the incentive to resist isn't wotthwhile. A minor bonus to non-existant xp isn't worth ones time.
3) Uber men: the high ranking players seem untouchable. no matter how many times you hit them they shug off the scratches and wipe out all in their path.
4) bought weapons: granted you can eventually earn them but only after being used as a rocket pod punching bag for months if not years.
The game is intersting and free but as a long term game I can't see taking it seriously. SOE doesn't seem to understand the positive feedback will eventualy make any server into a one faction server then to dead.
I would list solutions but I doubt SOE would be intersted
Not really. I think the problem is most outfits have not discover the power of AA MAXs. If they have they will realise that the air will clear up very quickly.
As for PuGs... well they won't be organised anyways so they will die to air regardless.
I think this is more an organisation thing than anything. I noticed that the often losing factions seems to have less coordinated major outfits, and even if they are they are not working together.
Those are most likely hackers. You shouldn't be paying attention to them aside from reporting them (SOE has not be doing a good job on them); but then again, those 1 or 2 individuals don't make a difference to the faction anyways. It is the major outfit that makes the difference, not the individuals.
This game has to have some element that is worth paying for besides just camos and decorations... otherwise, who is going to spend money to support the game?
Also during christmas SC was on a massive discount of 3 SC for the price of 1SC. I don't think $2.5 is too much to ask for a gun if people pay $14.99 for a sub-based game per month normally.
They need to introduce a quick aa vehicle.
One particular problem with air
Gunships go the next base to attack, not the current one.
They drop off passengers
These guys occupy the aa turrets preventing access to defenders
Gunships fly back out to pick up gunners
Whole bunch of air comes in with only defence coming from upgrades (max aa gun, vehicle gun upgrades, fighters) all of which require spawn cooldown.
I totaly agree with everything you just said exept that i would accualy pay for some decorations aswell.
Im looking forward to alot of ways to spec you vihicles and youre soldier to make it more unique and specialised. And with that i would like to get alot of different decorations to make my own look.
I think the reson that im willing to pay for all this is the fact that you already stated. Im very use to play 15$ a month just to get access to the game. So i have absolutly no problem with paying for alittle gear.
And premium member / cough, but that's just because im i love with the game right now. And i hope ill keep it that way.
Things are indeed changing for the better. Command on servers is slowly getting its footing, and I see more and moer people in outfits, which are performing better and more efficient.
Being organized helps one deal with many of the "imbalances" such as enemy bombers. AA Max's are very powerful and yet quite flexible. My outfit has used them to great effect in traditionally harder circumstances (behind enemy lines enemy air is first to respond).
That's the thing with sandbox games. As people grow, so does the content.

My biggest problem is how it allows non faction members to occupy turrets though.
Looking forward to balance changes, the adjoining naval areas and the sandbox continents though. The ideas looking forwards are good, well apart from the Esports thing which isn't planetside at all in my opinion.
One of the biggest problems, which is part of why many like PS1 better, is that the bases are far too open. Air and armor can bombard everything including the interior of buildings, and worst of all, spawn points. Most bases have little in the way of defense, and what is there is easily taken out. Air and armor rule in this game. It's not that people dislike having air and armor, it's just that they are too powerful, and have far too much access to almost everything.
I actually see much less strategy in this game, than the original, because all that really matters is having the numbers and swarming everything. The strategy involved in minimal. I don't see it getting "better and better", at this point. I think it could get better with some balancing and base redesigns. I have read that the bases had better protection in aplpha, but it was removed, so it may not be a huge problem for them to overcome....just a matter of time.
I am wanting to jump into this and I hope to at some point. I'm too preoccupied with GW2 at the moment and I have a weirdness where I only ever play one game at a time.
But PS2 is what I anticipate delving into next. I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully I can find a good squad or what not, to get myself into and enjoy it. I think I'll probably just delve into the guild forum here on mmorpg and fine one that's available before i start the game when I get ready.
Started playing at launch and play at least 2 hours a day, I still find it extreamly hard to find an outfit or a platoon that actually works together opr communicate.
other than that the game is amazing, I guess its community just needs more time before social groups form.
Yeah, i think youre right.
If the squadleaders could somehow make missions that the squad members would like to do it would be nice. I dont know how this would work since i kinda thougth about this right now. But if there was a few tasks you could pick from as a squad member. Smaller or bigger tasks and you got a bunch of becons to play around me maybe it would be easyer to get squad members to start working together in random groups.
And to get to the point.
Thouse semi tactic groups would start to recognize the players they play with and maybe build more relations or grow better tactics when they accualy work closer together.
This was just a quick thought but i bet PS2 Crew are looking at these discussions we have, at least now this close to the release so help me out here and give me youre thoughts. (Possitive feedback and suggestions that is, burns never lead to anything)
I haven't had a single epic fight in PS2 yet and I've been in beta since day 2 or 3 back in August. I've had countless epic fights in PS1, the bridge fights on Cyssor or Hossin were amazing and fights around the mountains on Seahrus or Oshur and of course some base fights were very intense. In PS2 you just leave the base that's being attacked and head to the next nearest base, there's no point in defending because the game isn't designed to allow you to defend successfully.
Hmm, Theres a long time since i played ps1. How did you successfolly defend there? I can agree that it's a bit like you say. You fight for a base and you try to go to the next one fast before they can defend that one.
There was a recent thread on sonys forums showing screenshots of the alpha version of bases, they looked like they were a lot better.
I can't imagine why they didn't stick with a design similar to this instead of going with the useless/messy bases we have now.
