Was hoping some of you experience folks who obviously like the game (BCBully other etc ) could give tips on getting past the initial learning curve to get going.
As in , for someone 100% ok with FFA PVP , wants less rails and more open world , likes Asian them etc. In other words someone who likes the general premise of the game.
I tried it for just a few mins late last night while finishing up some work , and can tell the translation/UI is fairly rough atm. And I played Lineage2 heavily including Korean version but for some reason the initial Wushu experience just through me off (and noted the massive article even mentioned players would be "fighting the UI".
So really looking for early one tips in the UI , playing in general etc , from some of you sold on the game folks as really would like to get through the initial shock and into the game past the beginning etc.

I can answer a few questions that I often end up answering in school chat.
1)
First off I would recommend you train your internal skills more than your active skills (not exclusively but I would at least do one level of internal for every active skill you train...if not two) A lot of the "Quests" are based off your internal skill. Including the school quests to get more skills. So if you are a scholar and want all three sets of scholar skills currently in the game you will need to get your internal skill to at least 10. In addition your internal determines your HP and generally your survivability.
2)
Fighting: It takes a moment to figure out fighting in Wushu, especially blocking which builds up your rage bar and lets you perform some of the more powerful and cinematic moves. Remember you can use flying skills in combat to get some distance as well. Each school has their own unique skill set so in this instance practice and advice from your own school channel is probably better than anything I can give (unless your scholar in which case kicks are the single most powerful but the whirling blade move is useful as well). Make sure you pick a school you want as you have to restart to change schools...you CAN learn other school skills but if you want to go ranged combat its much better to go tangman at the start than try and buy all the other skills later, or if you want to be a stout sword wielding wudang..go wudang don't try and be shaolin and do it post school choice.

Making the Liang or Crafting 101 or How not to starve
One of the most frequantly asked questions is how to get silver without paying for it. Normally this gets asked when you realize your hungry and can't afford any steamed bread. There are a few methods of getting unbound silver that can be used between players. You can kidnap (easier if you are one of the less illustrious school members) Bounty hunting (an unsteady source of income at its best) and a few oddball in game ways, but the most reliable method is joining the economy by making stuff, or gathering stuff.
You have a daily crafting limit (pretty high) and a daily limit on exp you can learn towards crafting (not that high) so its best to start early on something because your limit goes up every day you log in. Kind of like old cellular roll over minutes, if you don't use them you can save them for another day IF you have a skill...if you don't have one your not saving or using anything.
The easiest way to make a little bit of silver is cooking. You have to look around the market and see what you can set your prices at but I got 300 wen a steam bun normally. Of course all the proffesions have something they can sell, some are easier than others
Cooks: Can make basic food to sell but also more advanced food that gives buffs
Blacksmith: Can make swords, staves, other pointy things that hurt people.
Tailors: can make bags <---a very decent money maker, or very high end armor which you will not sell a lot of but can sell for a lot.
Poison makers and Alchemist have a smaller market- Poison makers are generally only used by dedicated PvP people right now, this could change as it goes into OB and full release.Alchemist honestly make one of the most usefull items in the game, exp potions- a must have for fast character development once you start getting enough exp to max it out.
Craftsman- Can make bags for you materials slot. Make parts for tailors and blacksmith which are always needed as well as accesories (jewelry) that is also very good. Craftsman is an overlooked class I think and probably has a better market than I gave it credit for when I first started.
Making Liang with your proffesion means crafting or gathering and then going to chengdu's market area and setting up shop OR finding a stall that is buying what you have in your inventory (I made 20 liang just dropping off some spare iron I had today)
Have no fear changing crafting is as easy as clicking the unlearn button on your craft and then picking up another (of course you loose all your skill and recipies). You can have one main crafting skill ALL of the gathering skills and one artistic/social skill.
4) The help book
Over near your mini map is a help book, this can give you the coordinates or autopath for most things you will need, your schools trainers for your three skills...the escort quest giver. Most other important places can be found in your missions button in the lower right corner. It is not always intuitive but it is SOMEWHERE in the UI.

Should have mentioned this as it gets asked all the time. Experience
Experience in Wushu is unlike anything else. It is most like Eve but it is not Eve. You get
Exp which turns to Cultivation (mastery points in Wulin) which turns into skills.
EXP can be gained many ways the easiest and fastest to me is spying on other schools...5 of these a day will max you out in exp. 2 of these and a few instances and a few quests will do that as well. I am not sure if crafting gives exp towards your main learning trinity or if it just gives crafting exp.
Exp turns to cultivation over time, faster for Vip, faster if you are on school patrol, faster still if you are on guild patrol, faster if you take exp pills that alchemist make, fastest if you get the divination buff from players.
Cultivation points turn to skills one at a time, even if you are offline (I believe this is true for Vip only but I am really not sure) Team Practice every day speeds this up greatly (almost twice as much I believe as not doing team practice daily), martial arts practice speeds it up.
Make sure you are always cultivating something
Make sure you always have exp to be turning into cultivation points.
Don't forget to engage in Team Practice most school chats have invitation all the time, it makes a huge difference in your character growth.

There isn't much of a one stop source for online information for Age of Wushu but you can go to this site
http://forum.mmosite.com/thread/2/263/20120822/Collection_of_Guides_Informations-503543d89c0ac0013-1.html
and get a lot of guides for age of wulin , inclduing full school skills list that are helpful in getting started.
I just wanted to say a thank you for taking the time to do all that Grey. Helps get a general idea going and thats what was needed.
Much appreciated.
Actually, I hate the game. I damn near lost every duel and challenge for the past 2 hours.
Shits carzy, when I'm out murdering people (illegal pk'n) I don't lose until I'm tired of being on the run. Challenges are so hit and miss with me. Really good sometimes, flat out aweful others. They're completely different styles of combat.
As far as understanding the combat, I would suggest you watch just as much as you do. The whole rock, paper, sicssor, thing along with positioning and overall flow, is hard for me to be consistant. What ever you do, don't spam buttons. That's about all I can give you right now through the fog of fury.
You shouldnt say that. If it wasnt for your posts on this very forum i wouldnt have found my favorite new game. Look at the bright side, at least you have won some fights.
Im still strugglin' on that front :P Lovin' it tho.
I bullshit you not, at one point I said to myself "You have no balance!" I'm gonna go outside to the mountain (snow covered front steps) breath in the cold air and cultivate my experience (fast snow), then return.
I got owned by every tangman I fought for two days. I was so pissed at the very idea of "tangman" and all things tang. A couple of days later I got my act together or my skills right or mars collided with saturn in the second house or SOMETHING because now tangman are not that much of a problem, wander's valley however are all of a sudden creaming me...
No problem,
I know first hand how bad the online information is at the moment...that mmosite thread for chinese Wulin helped me a lot when I got started but still there is a curve that the bad help menu english doesn't help.
I decided to take a break from bloodletting. I started doing devinations for people! Been out here a couple hours. For those who don't know, it's another "Cultural Profession," a cool mini game that gives buffs. I can sell them too.
I have this fortune telling booth set up with a auto message running. cool stuff lol.
That's my booth, "Lucky You"
