Setting up a trap in MWO... mean? or smart?

So as a quick overview Mechwarrior Online maxes out as an 8 on 8 currently (oh the travesty) and it'll mix 4 man premades in with PUG (single) players.  The game has several maps where you can take your 4 man premade and set up nasty ambushes.  We at first told our PUG allies and they would actually ruin our ambushes; ie complain in general, call us stupid or threaten to shoot us if we didn't do a "normal" strategy.   The thing is ambushing people works well enough that 4 players can easily kill 8 as long as you brought mechs that excel in brawls.  You might laugh and go "Who falls for that?"   Well it's only failed a few times.

What we do -

  1. Bring a correct load out (knife fighting close range weaponry)
  2. We find a place with cover to shut down our mechs (hides us from thermal and normal sensors)
  3. We stopped telling our 4 other allies...sometimes faking that we are walking with them before turning around. This usually leads to most if not all them blowing up when they confront the enemy team.
  4. We power up when we hear them at our base and focus fire them down... usually criss crossing around eachother to avoid enemy focus fire.
Even though their is in game gear that can counter this strategy... no one uses it (detects shut down mechs).  It has worked in 8 mans premades, but we found a few teams who knew of the counter or were aware of ways to draw us out.

The PUGs raging in chat actually sell our ruse better...  we get a lot of congrats also.

Never played the game but sounds like a good tactic to me.

Sounds like if they get enough people, they need to separate the pugs from the adhoc groups. Having a premade group gives a distinct advantage, regardless of whether you're setting traps or not. Plus, it doesn't sound like half the people in the match will have fun.

Anyway, I voted, "No" because the point is to win, and everything you guys are doing is allowed within the context of the game.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

What dumb*** PUGs are complaining about the premade they dropped with using tactics? I would teamkill the guy who spoiled our plan in general chat.

The game is meant to be tactical so what you are doing is fine. Give your allies the benefit of the doubt tho & let them know what's happening.

Or dont even do that. Just uninstall the game and download Hawken. Fast pace mech wars versus omg slow / tedious movement with split torsos.

The other guys will see you coming a long ways away btw.
