So what's the MMORPG scene look like currently?

The old mmorpg gamer part of me wants EQNext to be a big hit.  There are a lot of parts of EQ1 that I genuinely hated, but they all seemed to be at end game.... the leveling up was incredibly fun.

I'm hoping (possibly in vain) for EQNext to recapture that and hopefully my maturity as a person helps me along at end game now.

This got me thinking though... what's coming out this year?  What is there to look forward to now?  Everything I've heard of looks like it won't come out till next year at the latest....

And it honestly makes me pretty sad that I'm going to be 30 or 31 before a major new game comes out... damn I might be married or have a kid at that point :(

    I hope the same thing about EQN and think it will be something different than we're used to. After bouncing around trying to enjoy the titles out there as home stay" MMOs I've settled on Vanguard. I play EQ2 as well but Vanguard is the only title I've found that does not feel like the status quo.

    It looks like a desert filled with the same large cactus's and a few small interesting flowers here and there, just over the horizon is green pastures filled with exotic plants.

    I think eqn might be a good game, because

    1 its using the excellent planetside 2 engine
    3 smedley appears to have undergone a drastic change of heart as to what makes a good mmo following his "conversion" to eve.

    Now whether it will appeal to the EQ raid or die fan base is another matter entirely.
