Hey,
So I am re-playing Grandia the PSone classic which I downloaded from the Playstation store for $10. I know I am not the only one in this boat, but what has happened with modern video games?
I think we need to have all current game designers play the old classics again from scratch and force them to take notes. I mean the oldies didn't have the best graphics but the game became more of an adventure the way they were set up. What I mean by this was that the games did a great job setting up the story and flushing out the characters background. The battle systems were also done in such a way that you could spend hours if you really wanted to and didnt mind the grind so much.
The newer games try to do things differently which is fine. However it seems that they don't take into consideration what has worked so well in the past. Companies try to flush out games before they are complete in order to get in a quick buck. If things keep going this way I fear for the industry.
P.S. I have yet to find a modern game that has been able to match the quality of a older classic.
P.P.S. If I pay $10 and can get 60+ hours of gameplay, story etc out of a game, then I expect the modern games to double that. Instead the companies have raised the price to $60 and the game time down to 8 hours, 24 if your lucky with DLC.
