Having played both games (admittedly I'm a long time Eve player and was not fond of WoW), I'd say they are generally for people with different kinds of gaming tastes. WoW is the ultimate theme park (some would say tuned for the lowest common denominator). Eve is a big sandbox with people out to kill you and kick over your sand castle at every opportunity (some would say this gives it a visceral feel and makes your gameplay actually meaningful). I've rarely found people that truly enjoy both. I wasn't, but maybe you will be one such gamer.
In either, I'd suggest finding a good group to play with as it will greatly enhance your experience. I'd also suggest giving both a legitimate try before jumping to any conclusions. WoW can seem boring and redundant at first (I declare victory over all wolves based upon my video game career). Eve can seem harsh and complicated. Each game has much to offer for their proper audience. Find out which is for you.
