    You might want to check up on the Combat Update a bit more thoroughly, its almost en entire remake of the game. Huge changes to almost every crafter profession. Doctor profession is dead, changes to BE, WS, etc, almost all classes will be re-directed.

    It will be a totally new game, pretty much a wannabe EQ2/WOW mix.  I have had 3 accounts for a long time, loved the crafting and the ability to hunt what I needed.  With the changes, I have cancelled all 3 accounts.  The CU is SWG2, not SWG.

    Don't waste your money if you like solo play, ability-based combat and crafting.  Read the SWG forums for an explanation of why so many of us have cancelled our accounts.

    from what i understand of the cobat update they will do two things that matter to me

    1. make enemies harder to kill (therefore stopping people from soloing 2-3 rancors at the same time)
    that, i think is awsome, the game is easy enough as it is, only a jedi like luke or knight jedis should be able to solo a rancor (my opinion). This will also make it harder to geta jedi character, which i also think is a good thing.

    SWG is too easy as it is... i went from nothing to master medic in 2 days, give me a break.

    2. less reliance on docs... i hate having to buff, buffs are a complete stupidity the way they are implemented now. get rid of them, we'll all be better (except for the docs who make big $$'s atm).

    I dont see how making a game harder is bad. iI also dont see why youre sayign this CU will be bad for crafters, the crafters will have the abiltiy to make awsome items after the CU hits, less buffs mean more reliance on armor. right now it dun matter much what armor you wear, as long as you got an awsome buff.

    how does this make swg a eq2 clone? the skill system will stay the same, the freedom of the game will remain.. at least i hope so!

    I solo a lot on Test Center .. not as much as on my live server, but thats the whole point of the CU, no ?

    And I start with it right from minute 1 of logging in instead of first FINDING a doc for buffing, paying 12000 credits in advance and then waiting in line for a buff. Sounds like an improvement to me. I now have slightly less hit points ALWAYS then i had before while being buffed (and that lasted only between 2-4 hours).

    Most of the crafting stays the same. Armorsmiths and Doctors changed a lot ... a debatable, but necessary decision. Some other schematics have changed too ... usually in such a way that elite crafters cannot monopolize the market and novice crafters have more ways to make money. An improvement in my book. Docs that want crafting more than adventuring are free to take the bio-engineer crafting line and do what they always did.

    Armor ... I rather have around 20  USEFUL armor types (inlcuding cool player crafted faction armor) and some disgruntled AS leaving as they lose their monopolies compared to 20 servers full of composite armor clones (my being one of them).

    Combat is much more special ability centered now than before. Before you were spamming the base attack while reading the newspaper or drinking coffee. Now you HAVE to react the right way to certain attacks .... or die.

    I do read the forum daily and I understand why people leave. It boils down to "I dont like change. I dont want to adapt. I want my old game back, minimally modified in anything but MY area".

    The combat system in SWG just isn't my taste. You target a mob and then click some skills once in a while.

    Eating, drinking or watching tv at the same time made the combat a bit more fun though.

    Thats why the combat system pretty much changes totally beginning of May. Its the often quoted Combat Upgrade (CU) ... I would call it more a much needed combat revamp. Its on Test Center if you want to check it out .. Character Builders to max out your character instantly are available.

    oh man, the combat in SWG is much better than in other games!

    Wow, EQ2, AC2, etc... even EVE all have that point and click "atack", then wait routine... with the usual special action used every few seconds.

    SWG offers an incredible amount of customization... you can click attack and wait, you can roleplay while youre fighting (this is awsome, you can smile on a dead opponent's body, you can spit at them while fighting; there are so many actions avaialable for roleplayers) -

    heres an example of what my rifleman does to kill an enemy

    1. use a skill called maskscent ... so taht enemies do not "smell your approach" and notice you

    2. walk to a firing distance (running will frighten mobs, and increase the likelyhood of them noticing you)

    3. take cover (going prone, lying down and prepare for firing... or you can call it stealth mode)

    4. fire the weapon.

    .. that was what had to be done BEFORE the actual fighting had began.

    in the combat update, people will actually have to look at the oppponent's state/action and react, something that will greately add to the experience.

    nothing is wrong with SWG..i've never had a problem with it infact i think it's one of the best mmorpg i've played besides, Ultima Online.  i hope i win that contest so i can get back into it lol

    swg was bad at launch, and thats when the majority of the people voted in mmorpg's rating system - too bad coz swg would certainly be in the top 4...

    Heck, i challenge MMorpg to AT LEAST re-do their rating of the game... at least for the new expansion Rage of the wookies... i mean in the rating section, mmorpg rates SWG 7.0!

    so many things have been added theres no way SWG still has the same rating as when it came out.

    Amen to that.

    The current rating of SWG .. both from the fans AND from MMORPG is years old. I hope the CU and the new expansion will be enough reason for them to take a closer look at their old rating.

    So is the general consensus among most players that the Combat Upgrade will ruin the game for most ? I have played many MMORPG's before where a new "feature" is added to the game and people go into a huge uproar over how it will ruin/destroy the game and 90% of the time it ended up making the game much funner and something fresh to the same old same old.image

    No consensus. Some like it, some dont. Some will cancel, some will (re)join the game.
