Possible jump from EQ2. Just a few questions.

AmaranthAmaranth Member Posts: 22

Thinking about jumping over to a less resource-cranking game.  WoW, obviously, would be the front-runner.  I just have a few questions.

Is there player housing?  If so, can it be customized with furniture/trophies?  Can other people enter your house if they have them?

Do people actually RP on the RP servers?  The majority, I mean...

Is there a mentoring/sidekick system so that I can play with my friends in case someone gets outlevelled?

Thanks in advance for the help.

There are no housings i think, but there are clan houses for clans.

People do RP in RP servers but Noobs don't

All members in a party get experience so your friend doesn't have to fight

i hope that answered ur questions

There is no housing of any sort, and I believe the devs are not planning it any time soon. I myself still haven't found an MMO with sensible implementaion of housing where it would have a real purpose. Storage or decorative aspects have minimal impact on gameplay and I don't wonder why they won't be wasting resources on that. Also storage is not an issue because muling is even supported by the wonderful mail system.

There is some good RP going on the RP servers. Their community is good and I advise you going to official RP forums for better answers because honestly, I haven't spend much time there.

Grouping with players of very different levels brings no benefits. Leveling in WoW is fast so you can either give them a bit time to catch up or simply afford to playing on alt with them and still level your main in a reasonable time(assuming you are the one with more time spent in game).

I'm pretty disappointed to hear there's no housing of any kind.

The purpose of housing is fun.  Just because it doesn't affect your experience points or money or whatever doesn't mean it can't be cool and fun.  Housing is a place to meet friends, hang out, and show off stuff.  It helps in the immersion and gives a feeling that the world you play in is a real world.

ya it would be cool but then the game would lag more, and towns and clan halls are where you meet and show off, but i agree, hoyusing would be kewl

Well coming from playing UO with housing it is strange not having any housing but to be honest you wont even notice it after a while of play mate :)

The game has enough interest that you wont even miss it

The only "meaningful" housing you can have in a MMORPG is non-instanced housing that other players may stroll past and admire.  This means finite number of housing plots, but then player bidding can keep the market open.

Non-instanced housing (as in EQ2) means little to nothing and with zoning can be a real pain in the butt to enter and exit.  In fact, EQ2 housing is a time sink (the zoning), a money sink (the weekly upkeep), and virtually invisible to the rest of the player community (since most never even know you have it).  That system is completely worthless in my opinion.

WOW does not have housing except in the form of non-instanced taverns which are very atmospheric and have useful NPC's to sell to.  This form of housing also has the added benefit of granting your character "rest" (i.e., a 200% experience bonus for a few minutes the next time you log on).

I think for MMORPG's to have meaningful housing, perhaps 70% of the buildings in a city should be empty and undecorated.  Then, once purchased (and the price should be high), a player can decorate, receive "rest" bonuses from his or her stay, and other players can walk by and say, "Oh, that house now belongs to such and such, Lord Adventurer."

Yeah, I forgot WoW has inns. Which are better than housing in most MMOs - they have a purpose. And are sufficent for RP and social aspects.

Both instanced and non-instanced housing have pros and cons, but usually they are a waste of resources for something that is just a minor fluff and have no other purpose.

WoW doesn't need housing, it has inns which are much better solution.

WoW doesn't have housing or items to populate your housing with. Your house is your backpack and bank. image
