Faction question

I noticed few quests resulted in loss/gain of faction. I lost faction to tradesfolk and some other factions.
- does it mean that I can go KOS to them?
- or simply that they wont deal with me anymore?
- Is there a way to check my standings with factions and is there a way to see if a quest will result in faction loss?
on a side note, does anyone knows how many collection quests are there? half of my quests are collection quests and my journal is full all the time
