I think GW2 is very influential for the MMORPG industry, not because of game mechanics but because they are proving box sale (B2P), and limited cash shop can result in a AAA MMO with consistent content.
I know alot like subscriptions because it supposedly eliminates the dollar micromanagement of getting all of the games content...unfortunately this is untrue. Subscriptions are a relic system that is being exploited by companies, as they should for profit, against gamers who assume the cost is justified for AAA MMOs without P2W cash shops.
Problem is these companies then ride you for box price, plus subscription, plus expansion price, name change cost, server transfer cost, race change cost, gender change cost, and then they add cash shop items...not counting 100% proceed charity items. So really GW2 is influential in that you can avoid at least the arbitrary $15 a month and still get AAA content and development.
For the record I still play GW2 and enjoy the game as much as when I started if not moreso chasing my legendary, doing fractals, and exploring/achieving. However, I really dont see anything overtly innovative or influential about the game mechanics themselves. Maybe the combination of features makes it unique but the features list has alot of standard stuff.
The other things in that game where nothing good, so nobody wants to see them again.
No offence, I relly wanted to like this game, played it for one week and was bored to dead.
See a dynamic event combines the easy grouping of PQs with the motivation to kill mobs behind quest. It also both makes that grouping even easier and streamlined and delivers the quest with a mixture of real time action, voice acting and a text complement.
DE = better PQs + better questing -> text book innovation.
So your opinion is fact now? DE=orange circle chasing+no questing=nice try.
Lets see.
I said DEs allow group play, even easier than PQs,
Is that false? Do PQs allow easier grouping?
I said DEs present the story of a quest with real time action, voice actiong and complementary text.
Is this false?
If these are true, than it is a fact, not an opinion.
Actually, theres no relevance to what you said before, DE=better PQs.... that there is a matter of opinion, so no it isn t fact.
What is the point of PQs?
Allowing easy group play.
GW2 DEs allow even easier group play.
Hence they are superior.
Not only that, they do so by providing a story, presented in real time action and voice acting.
Are you telling me it is better to kill mobs without a story than killing mobs with a story?
You know RPGs had always have a story telling aspect right?
Lol, you just don t get it, your opinion isn t fact. It doesn t matter if you feel they re better, someone in this world won t agree. DEs allow for easier group play, some people actually like grouping with people, not just walking into an area where people are, and so called helping each other. So no they re not superior.
Oh and as an FYI, many of the GW2 fans quit MMORPG because of the trolls here, they didn't quit the game. Something I've thought about doing myself.
Lol, I highly doubt that, you have to preach about GW2 to keep yourself sane.
Also i'm not on an anti-GW2 campaign, i'm making a point, that GW2 will become lost in a sea of MMOs just like every other MMO in history besides WoW.
There's nothing thats setting it ahead of the rest and it's playerbase isn't increasing. It's going to go the way of SW:TOR.
It's still a huge success obviously but in the end it's nothing more than one MMO in a sea of them, maybe i'm on a anti-GW2 sensationalist threads campaign. Because I don't hate the game itself but I hate the way some posters speak of it.

In GW2 it is each player responsability to keep themselves alive - there isn't much any other player can do, they can offer opportunities and time, but no one will be able to keep you alive if you can't.
But if you go down, you'll have a few people right away on you to rez you.
And from yout comments you haven't played since the initial rush - these days in many areas events will have 4-10 players, making each individual player much more important.

I hate how GW2 is in general. I may as well play with heroes or hencmen. Even with a good guild that my wife and I were in , no one really did anything of relevance together. Sure some fun was had, but IMO, GW2 in every way is the epitome of boring. DEs in general were my first turn off of the game. Thats all it isDE after DE after DE. Sure theres more to the game, but if I can t find fun in any of them, then why bother. I still check in from time to time to see, and will, but theres nothing redeeming about GW2 at all, and I personally think it was a huge waste of money. The dynamics of GW2 in general just plain sucks to me, and there is nothing at all influential about this game.

I make a lot of posts about TERA, probably more about TERA than GW2, does that mean TERA is more influential than GW2?
I've played GW2 and TERA recently, GW2 was released later and is more popular so it gets more discussions, thus it's something I comment on frequently.
It has nothing to do with it's influence on the MMO genre and there's no irony behind it.
If SWTOR wasn't over a year old and still had sensationalist threads about it on a regular basis like you're making about GW2 right now i'd be commenting there too, but alas, that is not the case.
In a year from now, just like SWTOR, GW2 will hardly be discussed and I wont be commenting on it and youll be long gone.

If you don't believe their word, you wouldn't believe their log in numbers either.
Additionaly, I haven't seen any server merges and more importantly I haven't seen any Arenanet layoffs, while I've seen layoffs at Bioware in April. 4 months after release and En Masse (responsible for the adptation to the western market) a month after release in west.

And in your opinion it isn't better because?
From what you say it seems it has nothing to do with DEs per se.

See here is the thing. In your last 20 posts, at least half of them were about GW2 or mentioned GW2. Now, you're in a thread that talks about how GW2 is influential because people keep talking about, and yet you deny it by talking about it.
Do you see the irony?
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

in my experiences with GW2 DEs
- players are more likely to res you than just focus on their own success

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

Looks to me like he answered that question.
I guess so, because your experience isn t anything like mine at all.
