Originally posted by ReizlaWe're talking about MMORPGs? Then I'd say Guild Wars 2 and Warhammer online. Guess both are worst for me because of the grouped dynamic events. Fun idea but it kinda feels like playing solo...Non-MMORPGs is a long list. But looking price/value wise (ie most expensive with shortedt playtime) I think it's Oblivion and Civilization IV. Oblivion because I was spoiled by Morrowind's deep system and Oblivion feld kinda shallow after that. Civ4 because it's just the worst civ-game ver made. Good thing that Civ5 is so much better (back to that Civ1+3 feeling)
Oblivion? Lol sure, even though they fixed the combat system, made exploration more fun, improved the physics and graphics, got rid of the 90% text conversations, and the world felt a lot more interesting? Please don't spew this nonsense about Morrowind having a "deep system". The world was depressing, exploring was lackluster, CLIFF RACERS, the combat system was atrocious, you read more text than you would in one of those old text based RPG games, and the game itself feels very dated. Your worst purchase was probably those nostalgia goggles that you glued to your face before you play Oblivion.
Awww someone said something bad about your precious? Your worst purchase must have been a lifetime sub to Oblivion Fanboyism. Poor you having to read all that text must have caused serious trauma... and imagine that a 4 years older game feeling dated compared to it's successor, how smart must you be to come to such conclusions?
I knew the game was crap, I played it in beta and hated it and yet for some reason I still got caught up in the hype as it had been so long since I played another MMO.
Guild Wars 2.
Everyone kept saying it was the most innovative MMO in years and it was completely different to everything else. I played it and I found it to be the exact same experience as before only with no world PVP which sucks even more. Instead there was the keep PVP from WAR but no mounts so it was constant long pointless runs.
I could also list, WAR, LOTRO, AoC, Dark and Light.... Remember that one? lol.
I keep getting caught up because there hasn't been an MMO I've liked since SWG was ruined on Nov 15th 2005. I dunno why I keep doing it to myself, I just want that experience of being in a world and yet none of these games feel like worlds, all just feel like games.
You can still play the real SWG - SWG pre cu on another server far, far away.
Usually a steady number of 2k players online all the time.
My first MMO for sure. Which happens to have been Anarchy Online.
I should have stuck with single player games because devs simply will never understand that while I love sharing a game world with other players and while I will interact with them when I feel like it, I will not be forced to do so in order to play the game, get the best gear, or be safe from constant ganking.
I had some good years with MMOs, but it's not worth it. If I had known then what I know now I would have saved myself a lot of frustration, not to mention money.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.
Because I do research and have learned to think for myself, I don't regret any of my purchases.
Although a couple of CEs could have been bought at a discount later............
I do my research too but for some reason I buy them even if I hate the beta, I dunno why but I keep seeing everyone saying glowing things so I think "there must be something good about it". Then the game comes out and suddenly it's massive hate and the game dies......... like hang on what happened to all the fanbois?

I know but the game is rather dated now as it is nearly 10 years on. Back in 2005 it still had so much potential but now it doesn't, it is all gone and the engine is horrible. They need to make another full blown Raph Koster game.
For me without a doubt it was SW:TOR. 2nd Place is Diablo 3 and third place goes GW 2. Although now when I think about it, I consider them all equally bad. A shame 3 first placers isn't possible.
SWTOR: Digital Collector's Edition (still one of the worst combat mechanics, imo);
Horizons (real old school POS);
Tabula Rasa: Garriott quote "...you can visit dozens of planets...!" Crappy game shipped with 2 planets
GW2
DDO - everything is instanced and combat is (mostly) clicky auto-attack. "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" Even the puzzles are boring!
WoW - Mists of Pandaria: MMORPG for Dummies. Damn game plays itself, now. Completly useless game. Now it's just a 3D social media hangout for pre-pube-teens of all ages.
Diablo 3 - "Nuff said.
Games I predict will fall in this list:
Elder Scrolls Online - "Hey guys, let's take everything that's cool about an open world RPG and throw it out to make a also-ran MMORPG, but let's coat it with an Elder Scrolls look. Yeah, that's the ticket!"
Marvel Heroes Online - "I made Diablo... no, I made it all by MYSELF, without anyone's help! So that makes me an expert on all things ARPG. So, henceforth, ergo, vis-a-vis, I shall make Diablo with Marvel characters and tell everyone it's a free MMORPG. No, you can't make your own characters. That wouldn't be Diablo, you ass!"
Wildstar - It's from NCsoft; where MMORPGs go to die soon after release.
SWTOR's Epansion - It's SWTOR, but with added useless crap that could have very well been in an update. Though the 10 fanbois that love it and still play will be tickled.
Neverwinter - It's from Cryptic. 'Nuff said.
I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.
Carbine is composed of industry veterans, a great number of whom were formerly World of Warcraft developers who left Blizzard to form the studio, and who later hooked up with NCSoft. Their executive producer Jeremy Gaffney was a VP at NCSoft and co-founder of Turbine, where he headed up the development team for Asheron’s Call. From the ex-Blizzard core group of ten, the team has grown to 45 at last count.
“It’s a very seasoned team,” says Jess. “It reminds me a lot of working at Arena Net, when we were developing Guild Wars. It’s like working for an all-star team where everyone is as good as they can be in the position they’re at.”
I played SW:TOR pretty obsessively for the first month. Then I finished the storyline on my Trooper and left it be. Overall, I think got a decent amount of fun from it for the price I paid.
The worst purchase I made was definitely the new Rift expansion. $25 + $15 for a month of playtime and I was bored to tears by day 4. Turning the majority of quests into Kill 20-30 X, where each monster had a massive HP pool and mobs were spread out so far that you had to mount and ride to go from enemy to enemy drove me nuts. Combine that with the massive XP requirements that forced you to bounce back and forth between the two continent storylines (which further killed my desire to try alts) and I left after only gaining 2 levels.
The second worst was probably GW2 for similar reasons. I loved GW1 and sunk well over 1500 hours into it, but the sequel did not do it for me. Despite all the ways I could get XP, the slog to get from level to level was excrucitating and the content I really wanted to play - personal stories - was both lackluster and spread far too thin to be a long-term enticement. I made it two weeks before I set it aside. I still have urges to play, but I have yet to log in since quitting shortly after its release.
I know it's back, but the new company hosting hellgate has made it so glitchy it's not even funny. I'm sure it's fixed by now, but most of us have moved on from it to better games :-/
And those of us who had bought founder packages were NOT honored... so we lost out on $200.
The Secret World was the purchase I made. I have had some others, but at least I played them for a month - 6 months. TSW lasted a good 2 hours for me =P
Gw2 by far, huge huge letdown. I remember in the BWE3 i played a necro and thoguht i made a bad purchase cus the game bored me so much. Figured it was the class.
Everyone i know and got to buy the game quit or max expect one person, all my friends quit in the first month and i quit in the second and came back in the middle of jan and quit again. The game is just so utterly boring, really doesn't play like an mmo.
"if u forcefully insert foriegn objects into my? body, i will die"
i played most of these a month and then wized up just to grindy .. swtor ,gw2 but the one i hate the most the secet world the pvp was so bad it just turned me right off .. oh and the people that think you should have to google the invetagition mission for your self .. it ffelt to much like work

Morrowind was 10 times the game Oblivion was.
Worst MMO Buy: Mortal & Darkfall

GW2 hands down.
I took a copy for me and another for my brother (as gift)
We both were disappointed.
I can also poke myself in the eye at any point.
I even got that ability for free.
Doesnt mean I want to. Ever.

Final Fantasy XIV CE...
Out of that box I did get a really cool notepad. And a shit game.
a yo ho ho
swtor ce for both me and the wife worst purchase ever hands down. I had high hopes they would get this right, but ea just did not deliver.

no doubt - SWTor
Games previously played: AO, AoC, Aion, AoW, Eve, SWTor, WaR, STO, TSW, DCUO, FE, BP, ProjectEntropia, FootballSuperstars!

Mortal Online - Steel Case (client was outdated by the time I got it)
So much potential yet fell so sort of what it should have been.
its a GoOd dAy to diE !!
I'm phrasing my reply both with respect to money wasted and sheer disssapointment (which is actually worse)
1) SWTOR: Collector edition
Got less than 2 months out of this.
2) GW2. Actually spent money in the cash shop for crafting items *facepalm*
Couldn't hit max level
3) WAR / AoC
Again, couldn't hit max level.
Pleasant surprises: Rift (got 6+ months), LOTRO (got 1 year).
I WOULD say Final Fantasy XIV, but I'm actually looking forward to A Realm Reborn, so the big "Craaaaaap-tastic" prize would have to go to Diablo III.
It was apparent all too soon why they only let you complete the first part of Act 1 during Beta.
At least the talented folks that split Blizzard to make Torchlight and TL 2 made up for it-- AND for a fraction of the price.
