Ranger... too expensive?

in Final Fantasy XI

I have some friends that play FFXI and I am going to try it out for a bit, so I don't really know much about the game. I have a question about Rangers though. My friends claim that Rangers are too expensive to play as a newbie and that really it isn't a good idea for me to play a Ranger from that outset.. they suggest that I play a Ranger when I have more gil and thus are able to properly fund a Ranger. Would you agree with this statement? Is it true that Rangers are too expensive to play from the outset? (Taking into account that you have to be level 30 to even get the Ranger quest).

    yep rng pretty damn expensive no matter wat lvl u r specially wit those gil sellers comin on

    everything is expensive now.............

    Good to know. Its a shame though. I really wanted to be a ranger.
