Just started to play the game and I want to roll on the new PvP servers that are coming out on Feb 5. I know there is PvP battlegrounds and 3vs3 arena coming soon in the next patch and you need to be level 60. I got a few questions about how does the PvP servers work.
How does the PK/PvP system work in this game on the PvP realms?
Are there any consenquences when killing a player (PK)?
Are there any faction you can join to only kill the other side (I've read it somewhere about you can join faction and kill the other side)

All I know is this. I played on the so called PvP server for about 2 months and I never saw any PvP what so ever. I think I got ganked, once and that's it. My highest level character was 40:ish.
I asked around and I was told that most of the PvP that happens is in battlegrounds and very rarely in the open world because there are simply very few incentives for open world PvP.
Might be different now with more people coming to play the game for free but that is how it was on the EU servers 2-3 months ago.

Anyone can attack anyone and theres Guild vs Guild as well.
If you get into one of the larger guilds on the NA PvP server you'll end up in large GvGs over dragons or Nexus quite often, sometimes 50+ people in battles, otherwise there's little to none.
While leveling you can go outlaw and PvP anyone you see but I wouldn't recommend this until level 30+, levels 11-25 are the battleground for lowbie gankers and level 60 white knights. So if you're outlaw you're likely going to get murdered by a random white knight passing who kills any outlaws while looking for lowbie gankers.
Not sure if you can say there ain't much PvP when you played not so much if you only reached lvl 40ish in 2 months... I just lvled my zerker from lvl 1 to 47 in 1 day 3 hours played (took me a weekend...).
Now answering OP, I can give you an exemple. I was leveling this zerker this weekend when I got ganked by 4 randoms : died, called my guild and started a GvG, camped them all day so that they couldn't get out of towns, also paid people to get intel on them to make sure to drive them crazy. They ended up surrendering but we had good fun. Reminds me of good old L2 guild pride and it helps building up a strong community, you protect your lowbies and it usually ends up in a huge GvG with the other guild high level chars coming to help ^^
Also dungeon and BG queues are cross-server so the PvP server is just an upgraded version of the PvE server to me
You got an Outlaw skill that allows you to kill everybody outside of safe zone when you use it. But open world pvp is pretty much dead, at in the last few months you had to search for a long time to find a single good fight in the open. The game is all about hiding in instances and channels, there's no reason to leave safe zone after the developers ninja nerfed open world drops.
Future updates may change that, but atm open world pvp is mostly dead.
It's the opposite in NA, on the PvP server the GMs sign in sometimes and tell everyone dragons will be spawning at "X" location and then they spawn a whole bunch of Nexus Traverse dragons with enhanced loot, they drop like 50-100 MW/Refined alkahest each on top of the gold fodders. Usually the larger guilds fight eachother over those. Nexus is still same old, lots of declarations in there.
But if you're not in one of the very few large PvP guilds, yeah, it's dead at end-game but while leveling up you can always turn on outlaw and make PvP happen yourself.
