I think the game is pretty awesome, but you asked about the downers that make me not logging in, so here we go
- builders and consumers in combat have worked in AoC, no idea why they dont feel good in TSW. I think that TSW brought this concept to new hights
- not enuff actives and the current ones dont rock da house. The skills is just "plapp" instead of "swuushapp" ... if you understand me here ^^
- no jazzpiano, just the 8 actives, no buttonbars, not many and redundant combat cycles
- not enuff social basics, chatscripting (emotes on bar), housing, guild HQ ? Guild content ?
- PvP = Fusang or die in SH center because ElDo never worked out. Thats by far not enuff for me.
- one of the mainconcerns is right from start, putting Argatha into a dimensional shifted Subway instead of searching for it
The whole conspirathy topic isnt what i expected (Nazis at southpole, NWO, NIBIRU, Underground Bases, UFOs) instead its myth and ledgends. I still have no idea, where that fly came from ... i smell phantasy ^^
- i dislike the icons in game. Ya, a matter of taste, but the item icons simple look like placeholders and dont fit into the whole theme of the game.
- maps not big enuff. I want to feel lost in a world. They need to be 50x bigger to finally give words like "massive" a meaning.
There is more minor stuff that adds up like im not into investigations that mutch with ingame browser on fake websites and so on. Also, i couldnt find the right company yet. People started soon after Polaris to ask for minimum stats. Due to missing friends i lost the chain after Inferno.
You see, a lot of that comes down to my own backyard so you can say, im not logging in because of myself ^^
I tried the game early on, so my opinion might be a bit skewed. The theme and questing were awesome. I love the horror feel.
Unfortunately, there were a couple of things that just killed the game for me. One, the animations. I don't feel like I'm part of the world; it just makes everything look silly. Not that I want the game too serious, but there are other ways to lighten up the game than the part you have to look at all the time.
The other thing is the skill wheel. When I first checked it out, it looked really awesome. Then I realized that there are certain skills that are kind of softly forced to be used together. I don't remember everything, but, for instance, I really only like playing in melee combat in most games. I also thought the life drain skills looked cool. Then I realized you could only use them with an assault rifle which I have no interest in using. Might seem small, but stuff like that kills it for me.
If it weren't for these things, I'd definitely play. The genre is awesome. I really hope this game stays strong and continues with updates. I'd like to get back to it at some point, but once my issues have been resolved.
You are not forced to use any ability combo, and anyone who told you had to have a specific build is lying. You are free to make good and bad decks though, and some abilities work well together.
I dont know if its sad or hilarious when people go fast 18/18 for bullions must have <Extreme Max Stats>
Like really. What are you going to do with those extra bullions? your already almost stat capped
Not really, I've spent about 1000 bullions trying to reconfigure my glyph stats, before I finally started to build more DPS sets with different glyph combinations for various builds.
Originally posted by cronius77 i enjoyed the game but after about two weeks playing it and getting past the easier areas like kingsmouth and savage coast blue mountain etc , it gets tiresome switching builds out every other quest to do transilvania . Skill synergy just wasnt fun to me , it felt lacking and i got sick of having to build skill point after skill point in other weapons i had no intention of ever playing just to make a good build for myself . Like i HATED assult rifle and claws imo but you need some passives for survival builds etc. That with the lack of polish on animations just makes me not enjoy the game at all.
Use a build manager -- makes it easy to save and swap out decks quickly and painlessly:
Originally posted by TribeofOne i think the skill wheel is a good idea but i hated having to grind AP to spend buying skills I don't want and will never use just to get to that one skill i do want. Would've been better if they did away with prereq's. Also i HATED the chat system. from chat outages to having to hack game files to have decent font size or chat channel text coloring. I also found a lot of the community to be just downright mean and rude.
Chat works fine and people are nice (well except maybe the leets in Agartha). Plenty of friendly cabals and normal people in General Chat. /ignore the jerks -- they are in every game available, but there are fewer of them in TSW.
An ability you think might not be useful in one build can end up being very useful in another build/combo. It's just the pool of abilities you own, so nothing is really "wasted"

an example of what they could have done is the spy missions from Age of Wushu, not all out war but small covert missions.

For me, the combat just sucks. I basically stand there in one spot and click on attacks and the animations are just not very good. I dont even feel like I'm doing anything.
TSW has action based combat with lots of movement going on. Almost every boss-fight in the game requires you to constantly move while attacking.
That's why, not a single skill in TSW roots you in place, every skill allows you to move around and dodge enemy AoEs or other abilities.
Given the above and the fact that it's very responsive, and that you can switch your abilities 'on the run', I consider the combat in TSW to be among the best.
I agree with Talonsin, combat is just not that great. I personally think is has a lot to do with the stiff and poor animations. I honestly can't pin point what it is about the game I don't like. I like slaying zombies, I like shotguns, I like post apocolyptic settings, but when I get in the game I end up running around for half an hour, 10 of that probably talking to someone, 15 doing a mission, the rest just shooting random things then I am bored...it's probably more of me, I can't seem to play a game for more than an hour tops now

I really disagree with this. Any weapon can be good, but you can build bad decks if you are not using combos as well as you could. The freedom is a two-edged sword. Understanding how combos work is key:
There are also plenty of cookie cutter decks if you don't want to understand how the system works, but understadning builds makes a huge difference in the enjoyment of combat in the game. And yes, I am separating the combat system from the animations.

Okay, you're a developer at TSW with a limited staff and a huge set of features on your list and some bugs. Several of those bugs have been nicely addressed by the mod community, and there are several major things you need to do to deliver new content. I can completely understand why they'd choose new content and features over a bug. It'd be nice, but the addons work seamlessly and simply work. Problem solved -- you are getting your back up over development philosophy and upset that TSW has not made your priority theirs.

But the problem is, almost regardless of what deck you create, its stil 1 1 1 1 1 2 3 combat. That is what makes it dull. Being able to switch out certain arbitrary skills for others doesn't really chnage this. Yes, I understand you have more than 3 active abilites, but those 3 are still the heart of the combat system.

Okay, a couple words in your post really lead me to believe you don't understand how the system works. Words like "arbitrary" lead me to think so. If your whole deck isn''t working together you've got a very ineffective deck -- that's the full 7 actives and 7 passives (and the aux weapon if you have it). And If you are only hitting 1 1 1 1 1 2 3, you still don't understand -- there are special abilities like Chaotic Pull youl could be using, Impairs when the moment is right, and then following up with an ability that exploits Impair. And if you are fighting a certain mob, you may need to requip a completely different deck and possibly a change of weapons. Your rotation does not make sense to me.

- I didn't like the skill wheel/combat system
- I kept hearing, in order to move on to this zone you'll have to get all the best gear from that other zone. I can deal with some progression focus but not if it keeps me from going to the next zone.
But really, just the first two reasons above were enough to make me move on pretty quickly.
Character creation was the biggest let down. There are only couple of decent faces you can come up with but then you realise that in desperate attempt to nor look like an ape...majority of people end up looking exactly the same.

The Return of ELITE !
For me personally it was:
- I hated my character's appearance. No matter what I tried, I just really disliked all the female faces and options
- I didn't like the skill wheel/combat system
- I kept hearing, in order to move on to this zone you'll have to get all the best gear from that other zone. I can deal with some progression focus but not if it keeps me from going to the next zone.
But really, just the first two reasons above were enough to make me move on pretty quickly.
try harder next time
