The whole game has become a bit of a nonsense.  They promised similar non-level requirements as per GW1, they lied, it is a joke to be honest.  It is a lie.

What do you mean non-level requirements? In GW1 - after noob area, youo could wear max armor if you had it to wear but that didn't help you survive as your HP was less and that was the big issue.

I think you are picking at nits again and just want to complain.

I'm not looking forward to complete my ascended set, just to replace it by something new.

By all means the few rings were easy to get, but I don't want to keep doing this just because they keep on adding more gear.

This is the opposite of what they had promised.

no they promised you would not be 100% gated from content because of "tiers of gear" and you would not need to continuously run dungeons over and over to get the best stat gear and with addition of the laurels and crafted back pieces this is 100% true and id expect the following items to follow a similar path of having multiple ways to obtain them..

Pretty much this right here. They're keeping absolutely true to their word of no gated content or required gear grind to be able to access later content. There is nothing you're required to have ascended gear for to experience and succeed at. No, not even Fractals. You can get quite a ways into Fractals without agony resist... it's only if you choose to get into high level Fractals that you'll find agony resist makes your life somewhat easier.

Let's think way, way back to the old way of doing things... and we'll use WoW as a shining example of that. Remember WoW? Ah, the good old days of running heroics until you were geared enough for the new raid which you would run repeatedly until you were geared up enough for the next raid which you would run repeatedly until you were geared enough for the next raid which you would run repeatedly... Surprise! New expansion... level up a bit, back to running dungeons to run heroics to run raid 1 to run raid 2... ad nauseum.

They promised this will never be the case in GW2. They're being true to their word.

I thought this was the case back in November 15th when they said in the future ascended gear would be obtainable through different methods other than fractals.

Dakeru said yet, but I didn't see him say yet when people where bitching about having to do fractals for ascended gear and that A-NET said(maybe not literally cause I can't remember) that you would be able to get them in other ways soon.

So here we are year 2013 and we all of a sudden going to use the word yet. Hell we got people complaining about Guild Missions when all you need is 78 gold worth of influence(Correct me if I'm wrong).

Edited - Credit goes to Vorch, because I myself didn't think bout the 28 gold of influence to unlock Guild Missions.

Now if he's wrong because no one has answered him yet then I take that back and yea I apalogize, I'll also admit i was wrong.

Either way, the rings weren't hard to get. My issue is that 35 laurel is way too much for something that drops with a ~33% chance inside a dungeon. Why spend a month worth of daily tokens on something that can be gotten so easily from a dungeon?

I (and I guess many others?) would be more forgiving if they added ascended gear to possible crafts. Right now I feel sorry for people who maxed out jeweler.

I'm not sure if I get your point.. at all.

I should have nagged last november already? I waited for the alternative but a month worth of tokens isn't a real alternative to a 33% drop chance inside a dungeon.

PS: Where do those 78 gold come from? For my guild that would be a LOT. They said the guild missions will be fine for small guilds too.

Are you sure it doesn't prove you are better than your friend at pvp?

Ascended gear should be obtainable through:

    -badges of honor

    -karma

    -crafting

And it should have been like that since they introduced ascended gear.

Originally I hated Ascended gear because I don't like grinding dungeons but now that Anet provided alternate ways of getting it, I don't mind.

I have two pieces of ascended gear, the quiver and the amulet, and as long as Anet keeps adding ways of getting ascended gear without having to farm Fractals, I don't mind.

I'm curious about the inevitable expansion though. if ascended gear is at the top now, what will happen when the expansion comes out?

Ascended gear. A great way for people to complain about how they are forced to do something in a videogame because some person on the internet might end up having some virtual item that they don't have.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

If they truly were interested in a horizontal progression like they claimed to be in the beginning before launch, Anet would have made this gear available in all those ways.

Ascended is a rarity, not a tier, so if hypothetical expansion comes out same thing that happens to fine, masterwork, rare and exotic will happen to ascended.

Although theres certanly 0 word on that particular hypotethical expansion.

Chances are they wont even release full ascended armor set, maybe thell limit it on trinkets, maybe theyll add weapons, who knows.

i just feel sorry for that guy who destroyed his legendary cause of the november upgrade, the fractals are really awesome ...! and the ascended gear its just a carrot to lvl up there, the true carrot are all the other rewards and the fun included the well designed "mini dungeons"

Think biggest confusion is because they call it "tier" which is atomatically connected to "tiers" in EQ/WoW clones and if theres a "tier 1" then there will be "tier 2" content where you will HAVE to have "tier 1 " (in this case ascended) aka "gear gating" (where you mathematically cannot beat content and no amount of skill can help if you arent in T1 gear)

But since i fail to see that course if events in GW2, theres no need to panic as some do.

Ascended is rarity in context of EQ/WoW clones, not tier.

Will put this on his bookmark so when Anet launches their first expansion that reveals that the new dungeons require Agony resistance of ## amount on one's armor effectively making it cut off content from those who haven't gotten Ascended armor that has Lore in it that no player has ever seen or that drops essential materials or currency for advancement, so that I and many like me will remember how people claimed there was nothing wrong with a new tier that wasn't needed, or a dungeon focus going against 7 years of a manifesto, or the claims that the armor wasn't necessary to play and enjoy the game. We'll also be watching WvW videos once full Ascended gear is launched to see if the weaker classes that almost no one plays anymore because of poor design and bugs suddenly have the ability to 1 shot people due to this gear's combined higher stats in all 12 slots.

Ascended gear is currently a blatant way to promote doing dungeons. Are dungeons so boring that they need this crutch to get players to play them? I understand that they want players to obtain gear at a slower pace through dailies to get them to play longer, but they don't need to encourage people to do dungeon runs if they aren't PvEers. If they added a WvW method of obtaining gear I might consider returning to the game.

Right now I'm a bit worried what might happen if I decided to do PvE for ascended gear. What if a more powerful set of gear gets released in the future? Will I need to jump on a PvE treadmill again? These kinds of thoughts drive me away from GW2. I feel more comfortable with playing other games at this point.

You do realize you can't get them in Fractals, no? The original dungeons, no ascended gear. Ascended gear is, as they've said, something to serve as a time sink for those that like the feeling of progression over time.

Oh, they have said that there will indeed be a WvW means of getting ascended gear. I'm looking forwards to that as well.

There isn't a gear treadmill now, even with ascended, and there won't be in the future. They're not going to have content that requires you to have ascended gear to even enter or anything remotely like that. It's lateral progression now.

    Oderint, dum metuant.

I think it will be a very slow paced treadmill. People will move forward at the slow pace that ArenaNet wants them to move, but then they'll eventually need to add a new piece of gear to keep them moving. I'm fine with this. The problem though is PvE is almost never fun beyond the first few runs for me. I can't even get myself to waste my time doing the monthly achievement dungeon runs. Hopefully we will be able to progress what appears to be this snail paced power creep in WvW sometime soon.
