By today's standards, yes, most ancient civilizations would have been considered pedophilic. Being traded for mairrage at the young age of 12 or 13 and most likely already bearing children. Older masters taking on young boys to teach them how to have sex or as a rite to manhood. There is a reason why those ages past were and are considered by many to be barbaric. Social norms evolve and vary dramatically by region. What may be considered normal and acceptable in Japanese society doesn't fly here in the USA. Every Eastern game that ports to the US has to deal with the kiddie porn aspect of the schoolgirl races that are inevitably in them. I'm curious though, why is it only schoolgirls and not also schoolboys in scantily clad leathers? Something tells me that Japanese society wouldn't tolerate young boys being sexualized in alluring leather outfits.
That's an unspoken rule on all themepark MMOs since... was it Everquest or WoW ? Think WoW that started it off...

Uhhh.....You just totally crushed your own point. As the little toons look NOTHING like the woman you posted and EVERYTHING like the little girl picture you posted.
The Elin race look like little girls with rabbit ears on their heads. Now you can claim they look like "women" all you want, but if that's what a woman looks like to you, I'm not sure what to even say to that.
My friend was thinking of trying Terra so we looked into it a bit, and not long after I said, " Sorry dude. That game is going to be pedo central. They have a race that looks like little girls with rabbit ears on their heads dressed in skimpy clothing. You couldn't pay me to play a game like that. It probably draws the biggest scum bags on the planet to play it. " Of course he agreed and we never touched the thing.
And now I have a thread confirming my every suspicion.
As far as people saying stuff in this thread like, " Just turn of general chat. " or " I've seen worse things said in games...". Well I've been playing mmo's since UO. I've never seen anything said like that by anyone, in any game I've played. No I really haven't. I mean I've seen some stuff, but nothing even remotely like what people are talking about here. And if turning off general chat is the big solve, I can do one better. I can just not touch Tera.
Yea, you put stuff like that in a game, and of course its going to draw in the worst weirdos imaginable. That's just logical. And so it is. Personally I'd like to slap the devs that thought the "Elin" race was a cool, sexy idea.

Might I suggest going to the get some reading glasses? Since when did a wash board figure equal a pear shape? Do I really gotta point this out more to people? What you see in the game is what you want it to be, there are many games where people could choose to see child-like characters, some of em in very skimpy garb, and yet they don't and not because they don't want to either, but because they aren't that bad at seeing what's in front of their eyes, ergo my question is now:
Why are the people who see the sexy garb and aluring figure of the Elin automatically thinking they are sexualized children? Cause it just looks odd and vaguely alarming to me for someone to see children in lieu of scantily clad feminine characters of a diminutive stature.
I gave my reason why I thought it was a stupid reason to quit I have my opinion just like you have yours...It was only my opinion if you/they don't like it well too bad.........

I mean its a pretty sad day when someone quits a game over an Elin character it just screams to me they were looking for any reason to quit or not even give it a chance.....

I think that this conflict between people's views on the elin obviously comes about because they don't have a body type you'd ever see on a human. It's quite an amalgam: childlike head, narrow shoulders, flat chest, gigantic hips, ‘womanly’ legs, and various animal ears and tails. If your estimation of a person's age relies more heavily on the upper body, you'll see them as very childlike. Hell, if your estimation of a person's age relies heavily enough on a person's head alone, you might interpret most Asian cartoon characters as children. But if you take the whole body into account, in both cases, it's quite another story.
Depending on what features you're ignoring to try to make sense of their weirdness, they could be starry-eyed children, the most highly developed adults you've ever seen, or rabbits/foxes/wolves/cats.
people who have such trouble with the elin, i think it would be awesome if you helped stop child pageants instead... there's an example of real child exploitation going on, with real life human children.
meanwhile, petitions to stop these beauty pageants have only received less than 100 signatures.
or
help better inform single mothers of the dangers of allowing a male into their lives and trusting them with their children.
or
helping in evolution stop the ridiculous thought that anyone should be allowed to have a child no matter who they are which results into so many bad parents and dooms countless children across the world, in an endless pattern cycle.
i mean, if you care so much about children and all.

The censorship regarding the Elin was due to oversexualization period, if it were due to them being sexualized children (a claim which any rational human being would laugh at considering their incredibly skimpy outfits in the eastern version of the game and the world renown of the developer) the game would not have been launched anywhere , South Korea (NHN Corporation's,IE the game's publisher, mother country) has more stringent laws against child exploitation and sexual activity in general than even the US. Food for thought though I doubt that it will stop anyone too blinded by their own opinion to see facts.

Er... you do realize that studies have been done to show that the large size of human (and animal) heads is an evolutionary trait developed in babies so that we recognize their need to be nurtured. There is nothing "clear" about those photos being based off of adult models. In fact, apart from the large thighs, I see nothing similar to the photo posted.
Why should someone design a short, big headed race with psychologically determined "cute" features that resemble infants, and then not expect there to be a problem?
By the way, the Tinkerbell comparision is completely valid. Tinkerbell retains the dimensions of an adult woman. Elin do NOT.
Whether the devs/players are pedophiles or not, is not the question to me. But I happen to know a thing or two about women and Elin are not modeled after adults. Anyone who says otherwise is not even looking at their heads.
Well it has certainly morphed from a discussion about the lack of adequate managment of a player chat channel into a discussion about the design style of the game, but not I think ridiculous.
Those pictures of the Elin seem to me to have crossed the line. I wonder if I referred this to the regulators in Australia would the game get banned? I think it probably would.

Interesting question but you have to remember australian regulators are notoriously biased against anything with an M rating so I think it likely would've gotten thrown out on its ass long before the question of the Elin was even raised.

This. It's like he's ignoring the fact that knuckleheads are using the Elin in game to feed their pediphile jokes. I haven't seen anyone trying to pass your last pic as a young underage prank sexual item for fodder. Not saying there isn't any, but I'm willing to bet my house it is moreso the former than the latter.
