You would pay CSE for a chance to be in the Alpha... At which point you would become a tester and work for CSE for free?!

Being part of the creative process isn't work if that's what you like doing. Last I checked people still draw and cook for fun without getting paid for it.

I want to play in the alpha to give constructive feedback and to try the game as early as possible.

What good does it do me if they make the game without user feedback and it turns out horrible?

This is a large-scale MMO after all. We saw with Ilum in SWTOR what happens when a developer foregoes large-scale testing.

This whole kickstarter thing just doesn't sit well with me.

Nobody claims that it is your 'job'  Investing often involves the population.  In fact, thats how most stocks work.  People invest in a corporation for some reward.  There is nothing new there.  It is also not stock investors job to do so.  They do it voluntarily.  In this case, I will invest whatever I'm comfortable with when they begin it. (At least I don't think they started it).

You can say you are an investor but in reality all you are doing is giving money away.

If you donate to a charity you get to write off that donation on your taxes.

If you invest in stocks and that stock goes up you make money in dividends and stock value if you sell.

When you give to kick starter you get nothing except some unique pixels on a screen.

Like I said, I do not feel its my place to give a for-profit company my money to hopefully get off the ground and produce a quality product.

Produce the quality product and I will happily give some of my money for the entertainment it offers.

I don't mean to act like what I think  others should do, it's your money. Do with it what you please.

But you are missing the whole point, YOU ARE buying something when you give money.  That is the whole point of kickstarter.   Just say you don't belive in kickstarter, that is all you had to say.

A mere 20k people at $100 hits the goal. which a target audience of around 50k

50k means $40 only each. the price of a game.

At this point I'm not.  I seldom play PvP only games these days, unless they happen to be FPS type games like Planet Side 2 or some such.  I'm currently backing four or five other games that look much more interesting. But I wish you guys all the best.  Perhaps this will be the game that does more than niche itself on launch.

Linux hackers work for free for the goal of making a better Operating System.  With this game, you'd have a hell of a lot more influence on how it ultimately  turned out by testing in Alpha than you would from the outside.

I plan on tossing $100.00 to KS for CU, i will throw in another $400.00 if i can get some assurances i can play it from the asscrack of the world (Barrow AK.) I play most MMOs from here but i can't really do any FPS games because of the lag i get from the long distances. So either a nice west canadian server or west coast server would make me super happy... Seattle is nice.

That being said, the above quote, why do you care if others spend there money on what they like and want to enjoy ? Does it bother you that we wont be playing some other game you want others to support? i don't understand the mantality of some people now, why does one get so vociferous about what others want to do with their money ?

Smorak if you want to pay me to play games then i guess you can tell me what to support.

I'v been talking for years, about how much I would love to play a game like DAoC again, where I spend 7 years of my life in it. Even though I'm a bit concerned about the RVR only concept and its longevity, I feel its my turn to show action and support this game.

I really hope there will be a way for EU ppl to support this game. Chris Roberts did a awesome job with his Star Citizen KS campaign. He let ppl pay on his website with paypal and credit cards and at the same time on KS.

Vision, faith, whatever, you don't have it. or you're poor. dono which one.

If you're a fan and you will play the game. a leap of faith is required in this case.

I usually drop a $200 - 500 tab over the weekend eating out, bars etc...i'll skip one weekend, actually get some house stuff done and drop some dough into the kickstarter.

Around 60$ if i get for it beta + the game after release. It's like preorder but i know that the cash go directly to producer with no broker that takes probably 50%.

Having 2 autistic children at home, i cannot work atm, too many appointments here and there for them.

so between 20$ and 50$ is all i can afford :(

i would have gladly put a few hundreds if situation was different.

$0.00 from me. PvP focused multi-faction MMO?

Like a broken pencil ... pointless.

Shadevice: between $4k and $4500 USD, depending.

Enough for beta, but more if i can get a Keep named after me :D  Or charactor name reserved, or hell maybe a TON more.  All depends on tiers.

I'll donate what ever it takes to get into alpha or what ever the earliest is
  • EllyaEllya Member Posts: 99
I'm looking at it like a really , REALLY early pre-order. I'll look at the tiers and decide what I would be willing to pay for a pre-order and a beta key :)
  • TuktzTuktz Member Posts: 299

$100 minimum regardless of the rewards.

Willing to toss in a hundred or two hundred more if the rewards pique my interest enough.

Doesn't Kickstarter get a percentage off the top?

Looked it up, Kickstarter gets 5% off the top, with processing fees (Amazon, in the US) being another 3 - 5%. So, 10%, a ways from 50%, but still anything but chump change. Nice business model they have, considering they're basically just a web host.

I know I will. Whatever it costs to get into alpha if there's an alpha, I'll pay it.

If I could be 100% sure it would make it to production I would pay $1500 for alpha + beta + production + lifetime sub.  I couldn't care less about in game extras (assuming they are purely cosmetic).  Since we can't be sure about production, $300 might be all I would pay for those rewards (time value of money).  It partially depends on my tax refund and how my other investments are doing when the KS happens.  If I had the time, I might pay extra to be a team lead (like from DAoC) if such a thing were offered, but I don't see having that kind of time in the next 6 - 7 years.
  • TuktzTuktz Member Posts: 299
Now that's a good separate subject. How much would you be willing to back on kickstarter to get a lifetime sub? LOL

I considered making a contribution but read about a certain company..........So I'll just buy if these games ever make it. I think I've come across too many cases of vaporware and fraud. Those fakers have really ruined things for others.

I don't know Mark Jacobs personally, but he is too well connected and known in the gaming industry to put his name out there and fraud people out of a mere 2 million.

If that happened, his name, his future, his career is completely destroyed. 2 million is hardly money to retire and escape to some secluded island and sip on Mai Tai's for his remaining days.
