Just get a gaming mouse with extra buttons and re-bind them in the UI menu. That's what I did.
Yep, same here. I am using a G700 and it has enough buttons to map all 5 secondary skills and the 4 F skills and then some. So I pretty much play 'as if' there was 'mouse aiming'. I actually prefer it this way. One thing I dislike about games like Tera and DCUO is you have to switch to another mode to get your mouse pointer. It annoys the heck out of me and breaks my immersion.
yea i hate that as well and it's one of my biggest issues testing nw online as well..
i got the g700 also GREAT mouse.. very comfortable and buttons are very well layed out making it a ton easier to find buttons compared to those MMO mice.. that paired with my g13 i'm a happy camper
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. I stopped playing GW2 awhile ago, the classes/combat just hated my support mindset. But I can confirm that there is a mod for it, I would only play using the mod. Once you try it it feels strange without it. Not sure if anyone gave a link yet, but it's located here...and free.
Paraphrase: I want this game to play exactly like another game I play even though it's not the same game.
I won't flame, you are entitled to your opinion. Here's mine...
Tera's targeting/combat is the worst I've ever played in an mmo. Thank God they did not ruin GW2 by adopting that awful system. DCUO has that targeting system as well. If I wanted to play an action game, I'd play God of War or something.
No addons in GW2... ever. It's fine the way it is. GW2 is aiming for E-sport... horrible targeting/add-ons would ruin that.
Kyleran: "Now there's the real trick, learning to accept and enjoy a game for what
it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience

John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in
the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you
playing an MMORPG?"
The game already has this and it's free! Unfortunately this site won't even let you mention the name of it, since it's considered an 'add-on' and is a bannable offense, under MMORPG.com's terms of use.
Send me a PM and I'll let you know what you need to.
I love GW2 but after playing those other games it's hard going back to GW2 controls.
I feel the exact opposite. Downloaded Tera again... still can't get into it. It's too clunky. And WoW... forget about it. Even Tera's an upgrade to those controls.

Forge and Smite has had a much larger impact on me than Tera. I liked Tera, the combat was neat but I don't want the exact same thing in GW2. I don't want to change what GW2 currently has, I just want them to add their version of mouse-lock/RMB+LMB rebind combat.
I have to admit that I didn't really like having to switch to a mouse cursor. You get used to it after a while but it doesn't feel natural.
I love Tera combat and the game, but each game has its own combat style, or it should. I like GW2 combat as it is, or I should for what it is. I don't want it to be Tera combat and a reticule doesn't make it the same.
TSW which is very similar to GW2 combat in targeting, hit box, and to an extent telegraphing, has reticule combat and it doesn't make it like Tera combat.
Tera reticule is actual aiming. GW2 has soft tab-targeting. It doesn't really matter if you aim once you're locked on. I wouldn't care if they added an option as a game update, just like TSW, but I wouldn't pay extra for a feature like this.
If GW2 does do this, they should do it in their own way and not copy Tera.
Originally posted by HeroEvermore There has been a mod like this for a LONG time. I used on my warrior for months.
I like the mod, I just wish the developers would make (and support) their own version.
They had it so wherever you moved the mouse, your vision would follow without having to hold a button.
I'm not sure why they removed it in favour of what the game currently has, but it was much more fun when they had it. =(
Didn't know this, more games have to come with this option. I'm not sure I would want it 100% of the time but it is important to have if you are ever going to aim anything.

Yeah, I wouldn't want them to change what they already have but only add the option to mouse aim. Although rebinding mouse buttons would be neat but you would have to aim at someone in order to target them... and perhaps add a lock on feature by using tab.
Someone made a Combat Mode mod for GW2. Although not explicity supported by ANet, they did state that you won't get banned if you use it. Personally, I don't want to use it since it's wishy-washy with ANet's TOA. Also, it's an addon, and I hate addons during the low days of my WoW career.
I do think that ANet should steal or buy the idea of Combat Mode and program it into the game. Have it as an option to turn on and off.
Or, if that's not the case, have at least an option to "Target Center", similar to SWToR. When you hit tab, you target the enemy who's in the center or near the center. Having this option will help a lot for those who don't like to cycle-tab.

I love the GW2 combat mod but I think it's no longer supported. ANet originally stated that you wouldn't get banned but some self-entitled moderator over at the GW2 forums stated he would ban anyone using the mod. I'm not sure of the entire situation but because the mod uses a targeting reticle graphic, it is considered against the rules.
That's why I would just rather ANet make their own version.
That's the player made mod I mentioned in the OP. It works okay but you still can't rebind your right and left mouse buttons and the controls are a little buggy. Recently I think they was shut down because the targeting reticle is against policy, originally Anet had okay'd the project as long as it didn't 'play for the player'. Not sure on the official word because they don't want to officially support anything. That's why I would prefer the developers just make one for us.
It's up and working and new version. It can do all those things you say it can't to, the controls aren't buggy. The only issue is going in and out of menu's you have to tab back into it. Works great with other mmo's as well.
Originally posted by kriminal66 didnt read whole thread but you can get want you want if you use a program to bind a key to mouse right click and set it to toggle on/off i use a xbox 360 controller and xpadder and joytokey. Joytokey for my back button and have it set to toggle rightclcik on and off and thats all. Xpadder will do the other binds way better but xpadder cant keep a toggle on if you use more then 1 set selector with the way i do it there is no cursor on screen intill i push the back button on the xbox controller then it acts just like my mouse. But if i have rightclick toggled on i can still ground target with skills like in smite not quit as good but dam near just dont set ground targets skills to instant. all tutorials i found on net that use xbox controller use 1 program and always have the cursor on the screen even tho it doesnt move.simple really push back on xbox controller and it swithes to mouse mode with buttons bound to esc, rightclick, leftclick mouse scrool and basic things you would use push it agian and it gets rid of cursor and my buttons are my skills and things like combat mode. I also have a chatpad which is a little keyboard you plug in to bottom of controller nice for chating and setting prices and searching auction house. I think they intended on maybe going to console with gw2 because the way you can set up its almost like its made for it.
FYI, no one is going to read this wall of text...just for future ref.

If you think mouse cursor aiming is going to work in this game, you may not have played it very much.
This game is way to fast paced for the telegraphed and painfully slow click here type game play.
Get Combat Mode Mod and your problem is solved.
Please learn to use Google, and find the mod yourself, and while your at it, read about it's status on the download page.
Yes the original developer dropped out, but a new person is developing it now.
Who are you trying to impress?
I know that mouse cursor aiming is going work because I've used the mod. I've done a google search and haven't fount anything other than a few articles that point to a dead website. Please learn not to be an wanker to someone asking an honest question that wasn't even addressed to you.
It is an interesting idea. I can see how a player can become a little more responsive after getting used to this setup.
However, why have this when Anet has made improvements to some skills that make it more apt for hard targeting (I.E. warriors GS skill 5 rush, paths to a moving target). The whole point of having the tera like controls would be twitch accuracy and target leading. Something that hard targeting makes pointless.
Assuming hard targeting would still be important (to monitor boons/condi's), I would use the mouse to do other things than attacks:
LMB: change target
RMB: Change weapons
Weapon skills go on the keyboard. Healing, utilities and elite go on the side mouse buttons (the g700 is perfect for GW2).

I figured it should be more of an action hybrid control, you could still lock on to targets by hitting tab while 'targeting' over them. I do wish we could remap the mouse buttons.

I've been keeping an eye on Neverwinter, I will be playing it at some point but waiting until after beta.
The combat seems to be very close to what you're looking for. Super dooper fun btw. I hope you enjoy it!
