As an former European I can just say one thing - Eauopeans have dozens if not more languages and not only French and German. Other nations, have to use English forums. Scandinavians, all Slovian nations etc... I acknowledge though that some language used on forum is pretty disgusting.

As someone mentioned above, forums are not taken down. Players still can post on them and it looks like community managers can answer in german and I assume in French too.

Sure, would be great to have this guys stay and manage their forums, but if it was a sound business decision to eliminate them, without adverse effect, then not much we can do but accept it. Economy is tough, game is not as succesful as it was assumed, so tough decisions are expected.

I prefer they cut community manager, that developers. And they actually hire new people so at least this is good news:)

I don't see this as good news, or bad news. This could be a completely unrelated issue involving the byzantine labor laws concerning EU communication media that has transnational personnel in a trade-guild setting. The nose of the donkey isn't the cause of the tail.

Hey they still have that LBGT community protesting on the forums for same sex content ?

I remember that was always the forum nuttiness...

Had a giant thread on it that anyone who posted in disagreement got deleted.

Was a pretty funny thread tbh...considering how endgame (imo) needed 100% of the developers attention, rather than hiring back all those voice actors to make same sex content.

They never did either as far as im aware.

Pretty sure they would have left anyway though...everyone gets to endgame eventually...

On topic...language wars is always...always an issue with F2P.  At least germans and french people are smart enough to realize that its not racism.  Just wait until Brazil gets wind of the game...thats usually when the launguage wars get heated...

The official forums will never top the nuttiness that has been displayed on this site since TOR's announcement.

As far as the uproar in French and German, I hate to say this, but for once the French have a point. You have to at least have one person that can speak the dang languages your game services.

LOL Wait till it goes "TRULY"  free to play not the set up they have now..You have 199 different languages...image

When i saw their "F2P" model i just said to myself: "ill just wait until it goes really F2P" Might be sooner than i expected :)

AFAIK you only get same sex flirt option with NPCs on Makeb and thats it. So no developer time OR old voice actors needed :)

The thing is Seven is that they cut all language support for the originally supported French and German. The PR hit alone shouldn't be worth whatever they were paying their French and German community managers.

Secondly, they also cut deep into their English community managers.

This would indicate that the descion was based on fiscal reasons, as opposed to a dumb PR move,

That would indicate the game's financial health is either not very good at all (to justify such a PR hit) or EA is overswueezing the game's daily finances to make up for the high development costs.

Remember, EA on average spends $3 in marketing to every $1 of development. If EA is spending $0 to actually further reducing the game's communication department, what does that leave to spend on game development?

I keep waiting for this game to find its feet, (mostly as a significant niche game) but it either keeps failing, or keeps inflincting self-imposed wounds.

  • tiefighter25tiefighter25 Member Posts: 937

And seven, the whole, their are tons of languages besides French and German, well the game was made, marketed, offered support, specifically for France and Germany.

Not to mention that in Central Europe, German is more common as a second language then English.

What I also find skeevy, and insulting to people's inteligence is them brining back Andrayah instead of giving a more official response.

She uses the same excuse as you:

Andryah: 1) There are ~ 6800 unique languages on planet Earth. How many do you personally care about?

    2) The OP clearly understands and can read/write in English just fine, so it's ironic to post in English that you are quitting the game because Bioware will no longer have a dedicated CM in your forum language set. Mind you, they are not shutting down the forum for the OP, just eliminating a dedicated CM.

This whole matter is dumb. They should have never tied the paring down of the English community managers with the European.

They could have also hired one person who speaks German , French, and English to do all of Europe, and this wouldn't have happened.

It's either dumb or depsperate, neither are good things for the game or Bioware Austin.

Another fine mess you've gotten us into Laurel.

Maybe they rather keep some programmers instead of "community managers", what´s there to manage anyway.

There is no endless money supply and the game is obviously underperforming with over 200 servers -> 20 servers, what do you expect. Cost cuts and layoffs happen

All I'm saying, and I'll let it go after this, is that if in your cost-benefit analysis, firing 2 low level employees for an anormous PR hit among a huge chunck of your customer base is considered a good idea, either the people doing the cost benefit anlaysis are daft, or the game is in dire financial straits.

A game that cost on average estimates, $200,000 to develop and $100 million to market, and now you are trying to save money on what, 2 $60,000 a year jobs? If 8,000 people unsub because of this, that's $120,000 lost in 1 month, or $1,440,000 a year.

Seems like a lot of immature people are pitching a fit over something that's really doesn't amount to much.

at least be honest, and write "i like swtor, and i dont wanna lose it"

immaturity and mmos are connected,,remove the fun, and most players will leave too

swtor is a good example of that

Apparently they've removed the thread or moved it elsewhere. I can't seem to find it.

Fire Matt Bromberg and split the money with the communications dept. and developers.
