Hey guys, I'm curious who's going to stick with their old realm from DAoC, and who's going to swtich, and why... OK, I'll start...
While I mostly played on Mordred (FFA PvP server), I did paly on Alb, and Hib as well, but more Hib. And while I liked a lot of the Albion class choices more, my heart was really always in Hibernia... So, for CU, I'll be going back to Hib (Tuatha De Danann) to fight alongside my forest buddies. As much as I liked Albion, the lush, beautiful, magikal lands of Hibernia just reasonated with me, so, I can't wait to go back! For those of you who don't know:
Hib = Tuatha De Danann
Alb = Authurians
Mid = Vikings
I might be persuaded to join the Authurians, if there's just some class choices there that I really love, but chances are, I'm going back to Hib...
P.S: I always hated Mids, no offense guys, not a chance I'll be there... ;P

Oh you are hitting the nail here. I am thinking about this for a couple of days now. Back in DAoC i played Hibernia for a couple of years and loved it. ON eu servers, hibernia was almays outmatched (about 4albs : 2 mids : 1hib ratio) and therefore it was amazing when you were able to bring home a major victory, or swoop by when mid was fighting alb, help them kill the alb zerg and then be left alone with midgard to fight till death if i was to know the same thing will come to be in CU, i would instantly say: Tuatha!
BUT i DO love the arthurian saga, and i DO love me some vikings, both is very appealiong to me... i think i will have to see and wait, maybe in a years time, when the alpha is approaching and backer forums are reality we will be able to make a poll to see how things have shifted in thr past years.... i do generelly tend to join in with the underpopulated realm.
edit: i did play 2 midgard chars to 50, a skald and a healer those were my first characters after release actually, and i did play an armsmen and a necromancer to 50, some time later but those were only pve till 50 and then "deserted" i consider myself hib all the way
DAOC Live (inactive): R11 Cleric R11 Druid R11 Minstrel R9 Eldritch R6 Sorc R6 Scout R6 Healer
When DAoC launched I played Alb for about 3 years before switching to Mid on a new server.
That said, if the vikings have rolling lag hammers and/or flaming spears of lag I will be all over vikings like white on rice.
If not, I'll read up on all the classes and see which one(s) tickle my fancy. I like the lore and aesthetics of all three regions so it's purely down to the classes available to each.
If they go with trying to maintain the race/class diversity that DAOC had, (and in fact try to replicate most of them) I'll stick with Albion, because I loved the Minstrel class first and foremost, and always wanted to try playing a Theurigist.
But here's the thing, I'm wondering if they really will try to do this? Are speeder/twisting classes still something that a modern MMO is going to have? Will the Dev's make a class where the caster's pets can kill opponents even if the caster himself is dead?
More importantly, will they fall prey to the modern way of thinking that every faction must have the exact same classses in order to keep the PVP "fair" and balanced.
If any of the points I raised are true, this game will have far less appeal to me than it's predecessor.
Will be interesting to see which way they decide to take this game, and if there's already been information posted about this please point me the way and I'll read up.

That's an easy one: Foundational Principle #6
I'm fairly sure Mark has said that there won't be class mirroring across the realms.
Found it:
"The reason to use RPS is because, IMO, the mirrored class mechanic that WoW and other games use is not the right choice for this core RvR-focused game."

Most of the questions you're raising have already been answered by MJ, and the answer was: No. I cant tell if they are going to change anything about the way speedbuffs work or how casterpets work, but this is a very detailed gameplay issue which will have to be decided by the developers in a balancing thought. However, the different realm WILL have different classes. and lot's of them. how many exactly has not been stated but MJ said every realm would have different ones. I "assume" (don't nail me on this!!) they will go about the class design in a similar manner, as to how they did it in daoc; Every realm has the exact (!) same tools in it's belt ( a thing, most people forget) but these tools are differently distributed among the classes. and this made the whole thing appealing. ( i still call IMBA on Mid healers with root/mezz AND stun in just one caster

Once a Hibernian, always a Hibernian.
Actually, I liked my Mid alts, but I can't stomach the atrocity that is Albion! Fie! Fie, I say!

I played hib in DaoC and I will play hib in CU.
I think at the core most players still have realm pride. Most of the fond memories people have are from Realm Pride. A lot of players left before Realm Pride really went out the window and I would expect a majority of those same players to join the realm they loved.
I healed Mistwraith and all I got was this stupid tee-shirt!
I played a Mid Troll for several years, when they released Mordred I went to a Hib Lurikeen for an enchanter.
I plan on trying several classes/races, but as of late I find myself drawn to small races.
I mostly played alb on lancelot (Nulo inconnu sorc).
Played mid a decent amount (guinivere I think?), but only got up to 48 on my norse savage.
I messed around in hib some, and loved the scenery, but only got up to 38 or so, and just played in the battlegrounds.
This was all before ToA.
As much as I love Alb for the knights wearing plate mail, I think this time around I'll play Hib. I always meant to try it more in daoc, and never got around to it. I love the more magical and fantastical vibe to it (and celtic type lore is just awesome).
I might try viking/mid some, but my main will be hib.
Gonna try my hardest to avoid Alb, since I played that side into the ground over and over in DAOC. Plus, with the changed mmo market, I think a lot of the younger generation mmo players will go Alb, so I can beat up on them.

Midgard before, Viking in the future!
The only realm I actually got 50's on in DAOC, despite playing for 6+ years. Even played Mid on Gareth when it came out. Messed around with alts in the other realms...but they never spoke to me like Midgard did.
And plus that means I'll get to kill Emercy (and be killed) by him some more.
I'll pick a primary faction, play it for the first few months until all the tourists go back to wow, afterwards i'll probably reevaluate and go to the lowest populated side especially if my chosen side is vastly more populated than the lowest populated side.
With a different account if necessary, hopefully not necessary. I know I know "realm pride". Realm pride is temporary, and at the end of the day your enemy needs the ability to rebound. Being a thick-skinned and stubborn motherfucker, I see playing on the lower populated side as somewhat of a responcibility because there are a lot of daoc "gamers" that would rather quit than play at a disadvantage. A lot of them like to use the term "realm pride" when they choose the winning faction on the server and complain when their side's pvp guilds reroll. These are just tourists in disguise that happened to pick the dominant realm.
Inc flame war, but you know I'm right.
Mid/Guin as well, and no way will I play and Alb or HIb I ll bring my realm pride to this game, and stick with one. I used to love playing with the wife, we created some Albs, went to thid and she log out and deleted after the first big fight. I said what are you doing, she said I can t kill the cute trolls and kibbies, lol.
