You make it seem like GW2 combat is better?  It's a matter of personal taste and Tab target is just as viable as your 'action' combat (with hotkeys) you seem to love.

    Cant wait to play.

Honestly as non final fantasy fan. I know thi series pretty well. I think wht will help SE is marketing in the US first off. even if its just on youtube. But players need to help get the word out there. Like the videos, share them, promote the game if you feel its fun. Thats how most things are popular, word of mouth. Warcraft was just another mmo till youtbes Leeroy jenkins video became popular. So people tried the game, found it easy and enjoyed it.

And here are talking EVERYONE even non gamers.

A big reason Elder scrolls is popular is from word of mouth.

As for pay to play vs free to play. There is no difference. At some point you NEED to pay. MMORPG need money to make content. They NEED money to keep theservers in check. People are ignorant of this fact and don't see a reason to pay money mountly for a game.

Infact, i played over 13 free to play mmorpg. I always found that i was forced to pay more for "mmorpg basics" then i would just paying a flat fee every month.

Take example of DCUO, you need to buy "content updates" listed as DLC for $10 hardly anything is added cept for 2 raids or something for pvp, you can't trade in DCUO unless you at least spend $5/ buy one of the dlc. You also have a money cap which you need to pay real money to tae money from your "saved up" money. You need to pay $10 for 5 of these treasure key or random boxes you get that give you stuff you can't buy. Such as auroas that further you character customization. Then you have all the stuff from the cash shop which is $3-$10 per item.

If you totle everything up your looking at $100 or more a mth on stuff. So much for free huh?

Personally i rather spend $15 a month and get all the open to me. You even earn tokens to use on cash shop items.

To me free to play is like the old cell phone bills, you pay per set of minutes. Where as pay to play is a flat mnthly fee with unlimited min.

Pay to play isn't dead, every game is pay to play in some form, they just use FREE as a marketing tool to get subs. People want to be he next "wow".

Also i found pay to play games offer better service when it comes to harrassment, bullying and the like. Most free games do not have "GM" or game masters who keep things in order.

Also when it comes to Guild wars, it started out really as an orpg like phantasy star universe. You just log in a lobby town, and go to instenced locations by yourself or with a party you make in the town. They just took out the lobby town and instenced maps out with gw2  try and make it an mmorpg.

Also, Youshida stated an MMOrpg needs to be built around a free to play model. Or it becomes an urelible source of income to keep the game active. Content is pumped out at a snails pace. Look at dcuo again, content is very... small. This game doesn't even feel like an mmorpg. All because the ps3 crowd demanded free to play going as far as hold in game protests preventing ppl from playing.

Also, the game is worst off the ff14, the game such MUCH WORST copy pasta maps, only has 4-5 zones (a player can see everything in under 6 hours even as a level 1). and the cites are all but dead cept for quest locations which are a custer fk of mobs. I was in the DCUO beta, and most people refused to see the issues. They though Chris Cao was the second coming of jesus stating that 30 being the cap is a good thing, and that content updates will happenevery mnth to eep the game fresh. Saddly this never happen. DCUO had (according to wiki) 3 directors in 2 years.

Infact they stoped doing some of the holiday events simply cuz they can't fix them. Or just don;t care enough to release them. and in the first year alot of stuff as delayed (holiday events included) which is a first for me. Its like they used DCUO to maket a few movies WB did. Like captn america (dcuo has shield weapons) Also green lanterns powers.

If I compare the 2 FFXIV was MUCH BETTER then dcuo. Even though FFXIV was not great and had tech issues, DCUO took the cake. Infact basic gaming glitches happen. Like falling through the map (really... gaming is how old?) getting stuck in terrain due to super movement (again really?)  and some areas are still glitched. Infact i was playing last night, and circe a villians gear glitched making her appear nude. (it was funny though)

Anyway i digress sorry for wall of text.

This is a noticeable difference between Sub and F2P.  The former you are paying regardless of what you do in the MMO. The latter you are paying for what you like (a la carte).

Your argument is flawed as you make the assumption that a player will purchase every single cash shop option.  If you are seriously considering F2P you wouldn't purchase everything.

The real benefit to F2P is it allows you to pay for the content you use.  If you don't raid why should I pay for it?  If you want to try it out pay (the small one time) fee.

F2P ONLY works if the model is implemented successfully.  This includes finding the right price point.  Not walling off/gating content. Placing items of power in the cash shop.   Its very easy to implement a 'bad' model that gives F2P a bad taste.

Another big part is the player having the aptitude of knowing what they want (and dont want to play).  If you cant figure that out, then yes a sub will always be better for you.  But that doesn't make it a 'better' model.  Just another option.

Proper MMO's are not F to play, (or shouldnt be), they are a cash grab. Take SOE an Planetside 2, calls itself an MMO. obviosuly it isnt, but still.... I have spent in last 5 months 570$  :(.....(yes I know I am an idiot).... but point is, Cash grab F2P are a bad thing, because they actiuvally lock you out of things, an make it really unplesant for you till you pay for the items involved.

PS2 you either pay for silly upgtrades that all look exactly same an have damage boosts so you need them to compete. Or els you go without.

FFVIX would be really bad as a cash grab game, an I for one wouldnt play it. You might be paying for each mob you kill, each spell you buy each item you get etc etc etc.... That is not fun because it instantly  creates an us an them community, between those who can afford, an those who cant.

I really hope SI have the bottle to go agaisnt the trend here.

Paying a Sub is always supirior in every way.

did i mention gw2 as action combat? did i mention this shit? learn to fucking read

Vindictus is action combat, that game has got physics and mechanics so well made that no other mmos have done. The other mmos in the same category r meaningless and only take the free aim combat.

unfortunately it was not open world nor had its content well presented

    hallo ~_~

FFXIV 1.0 was a disaster and the new producer admits that while Square-Enix tries to blame it on a lot of other things. Thanks to the new producer FFXIV: ARR has been a very pleasurable experience.

I have been playing the beta and am currently level 29 (Lancer), level 9 (Leatherworker). Purchasing FFXIV back in 2010 and not knowing what to expect was a fairly big disaster. The game was poor, that's putting it lightly. There were no tutorials on how to play the game. It was choppy, the engine was poorly optimized, quests were terribly confusing.

Looking at how far the game has come since then has really restored my faith in the online MMO. It may be awhile before it catches on, I don't doubt it. Square-Enix pissed off a big majoirty of their fan base when they released FFXIV unfinished.

If you did purchase FFXIV 1.0, you can continue to play in FFXIV 2.0 with any characters you had without repurchasing the game. FFXIV:ARR does not go through the "PlayOnline" system that Square-Enix was using before. It has it's own launcher and own management. *Thank god* The game will be going into the open beta phase eventually, I would strongly recommend anyone that is a fan of MMO's to check it out. The game is both visually and intellectually stunning.

I have to admit, I am utterly impressed by Square Inix Customer service. They could teach every other gaming company I've ever had dealings with run their buisness. I had some emails with them last week, an the Customer Service guys were really friendly, an very profecinal. Sadly I coudlnt find my details for my old S-I account from the days of FFXI. But anyway. I am busting to play the new one, an will be buying it the second I see it on pre order.

"With one privoso" PLEASE!! for the love of crap on a cracker do not turn it into WOW.... There are half a doz (at least) wow clones out there, an they all suck to be honest. Stick to the FF franchize please :).

While I've never played any of the Final Fantasy games before the IP has always interested me and this is one of the few upcoming titles left on my list of "Hope it won't suck".

As an older gamer I've grown tired of the direction the majority of releases (not limited to MMO's) have taken in the last three years. Over-hyped with too large media budgets, failure to deliver on their promises, regurgitated hurpderp crap. 2010 - 2015 will be seen as the half-decade of gamer exploitation, the half-decade we all fell for and gobbled up their lies and excuses without even questioning them (the developers and publishers).

While I enjoyed the different approach TSW took with their class-free skilltree I feel they didn't explore a new angle on combat. Guild Wars 2 despite their PR spin has turned into an icing-covered grindfest, and by Leroy Jenkins I miss raiding, the trinity, and class balance above pushing out casual-centric garbage content. (you can tell the disappointment in GW2 hasn't cleared my system yet). Recently been playing Age of Wushu, and while it has some merits, there are too many deficits for it to become a game I'm prepared to heavily invest in. Defiance, while kinda fun lacks the rudiments of an MMO to keep me happy.

CCP are the only online developers I still trust, perhaps misguided nostalgia from the years I spent playing Eve but I'm hoping World of Darkness will be just as unique and successful.

It's sad that I've become jaded and cynical, too many cases of buyer's remorse. Where do we look from here, will a developer in the next five years have the balls to return to "The Art of Virtual Creation" instead of "Flogging That Cash Cow" as has become the norm?
