DAOC Percival was the best DAOC server, with Midgard being the best REALM on the best server.
Just saying.
And Mark...this is EXACTLY what we need in a game, that we haven't had since DAOC. Realm pride. God, I hope you can set up this game to get it back again for us old folks.
Wolvan, my brother.. midgard percival shall rule them all!
This. Yes. This.

I don't know any game that brought people who had no real interest in PvP to actually go and do it as DAoC did. I remember going to the frontier gate and seeing Hibbies standing out there taunting us from Midgard for the first time. People from all over the realm responded to the call of invaders at the gates and came up to drive off the invaders. We didn't run to defend our borders because it gave us xp, no we defended the borders because of realm pride. If one of our guilds ran into trouble with enemy forces the realm would rise to eliminate the foriegn invader infestation. Too many games today have PvP/RvR with no soul and no reason to respond other than personal gain. They will never rival the comradery DAoC had as there is no realm pride.
Please don't put guild FUNDAMENTALS as unlocks for leveling.
Contrary to what the theory was in WAR, guild pride does not revolve around what "level" the guild is.
You couldn't even design a fucking cloak until you unlocked it.
Of all of the guilds I've been in there are only a few things that made me proud of them.
1) The company we keep. I want individuals that play with the guild when they can, have some redeeming competency, and that don't embarrass the guild. For members to be considerate to other members, these are very basic, and if you have a bunch of guild members that don't fulfil these basic expectations, then it isn't really a guild to be proud of. And when I say have a redeeming competency this includes entertainment, diplomacy, and meta-gaming.
2) Making a difference. Being there often when you need to be. When the beacons are lit, stop fucking farming dragons.
Really thats it for the most part. I think this Guild/Realm/Server "pride" talk is being confused.
Pride is something that can be felt undeservingly. Lots of people showed "realm pride" by pridefully raiding dungeons and rooting for their team when the few were out taking relics. Or when they finally joined in toward the end of a relic raid after all the work was already done. yay! go team!
The same thing can be said of "guild pride". People feeling proud to be a part of a great guild, and doing absolutely nothing to contribute.
Hell I'm proud to be an american but I've never done anything for her other than pay my taxes and vote against people that keep trying to fuck it up.
What I'm getting at is the Guild Leveling concept. GUILDS ARE NOT GREAT. INDIVIDUALS ARE GREAT. A level 100 guild can be a decrepit, useless piece of shit that stays at the top of the leaderboards for years because GREAT PLAYERS used to be in them. But the accomplishments of the greats are TIED TO A GUILD.
I guess what I'm getting at, is if there are 20 players in a 100 player guild that are carrying everyone else, get bitter, leave and start their own guild (one WORTHY of pride), their accomplishments should leave with them. City State is pretty new, but how many years of experience does City State have? Tons right? That doesn't happen with guilds in these new MMOs.
You could get the top 100 players in the realm to come together and form a new guild and they start off as a startup with a bunch of fresh college grads.
Maybe I sound like a lunatic right now but I've seen so much talk of "pride" from people that have nothing to be proud of that I get a little irate when people use the term "realm pride". Then when a couple of the power guilds leave the server or change sides they get all "bawww! realm pride is dead". Its adorable and enraging at the same time.
This is a really, really good idea. IMO write up a detailed post by itself regarding this idea because as it stands now, it might get lost in the random chatter about WHY MIDGARD PERCIVAL IS THE BEST SERVER/REALM.

Awesome I'm glad MJ knows how difficult having lots of unique classes can be to balance, but also understands that's one of the great things about Daoc classes, the diversity and finding "your" class that fits you like a glove. There were so many awesome classes it was a breathe of fresh air. Thank you MJ!
Oh, and Long live Mid/Guin!!!!!..even though Hib/Guin killed their dragon first...
Regarding "Mega guilds" and things. What if in RVR, people in the higher tier guilds/super huge ones, gave more rewards for killing them/taking thier lands?
I mean think about it, just like in the middle ages, where you had Knights, it was more worth to take them then other soldiers, so why not make these big guilds act similar of a role, where they give more rewards for being killed or taking their land over then a smaller guild?
This would give people a reason to target bigger guilds and give the smaller guilds more rewards for taking them on.
DAOC worked like for individual fighters, you got way more RP on a high rank than a rookie.
in think that could be a nice idea to put a sort of reward for killing people from higher guilds, so joingning a big guild won't have only advantage and it will bring this 'guild pride'
OK First off, my server Lancelot had the first of everyting, Mistwriath was frist rr11, some other mid or something first rr10. We had the first and best 8 man squads Lagged Again and Free RP's. Also had some of the biggest guilds in terms of RPs at the time KoS, Ice Dragons and whatever that noob alb guild was called. We also had the most players using radar (probably not something to boast about) Also the best Lone Enforcers in the game to this day claim Lance as their home server.
Anyway, aside from the awesomeness of Lancelot I would like to give a shoutout to hib Nimue who to my knowledge were one of the few realms to take relics with a small 8 man (FoP + shrooms ftw) and then very quickly have Mythic take the relics back away from them. That was pretty epic.
I healed Mistwraith and all I got was this stupid tee-shirt!

Haha I remember that.. The Phoenix Guard, otherwise known as TPG. That was one fearsome group of people.. they could literally wipe out an entire zerg and a couple skilled 8-mans at the same time. That's one of those rivalry/pride things that only DAoC (and hopefully Camelot Unchained) could ever produce. If you saw TPG, you typed out /release unless you were in a very tight knit 8man.
My name is Plastic-Metal and my name is an oxymoron.
If they were using shrooms + fop that doesn't necessarily mean they were skilled. it just means they knew how to abuse a pve mechanic for rvr. Shrooms were always way OP until they capped them. Insta-gib death to a shroom stack isn't skill, I'm sorry.
Thing I am most proud from my server is that we managed to beat alb Zerg into submission. That's right we were one server where we killed them so much alb was not the most populated realm
I am actually very interested in this game and would appreciate it if every thread didn't devolve into DaoC leftovers proclaiming their undying devotion to that game. Last time I checked DaoC had it's own forum. For the sake of carrying on an intelligent discussion about CU and it's features why don't you post your memories in the appropriate place. ...and my first post becomes a rant...such is life

I don't like it. You shouldn't be prioritizing targets according to the reward they give. You should be prioritizing targets stratigically in hopes of defending your Realm and vanquishing your enemies.
This could likely create a kill-steal-whine-a-rama.
It's more about the guild, having a huge guild and coming across someone wearing their known coat of arms on their cloak/shield, and knowing that they are in a large guild/high level and in return even though you are the underdog you stand to gain higher rewards for fighting them.
It would give reason for smaller groups/guilds to fight larger ones and in return give incentive for doing so, aside from people just "Trying ot join the biggest guilds" and such.
As far as "kill stealing" that depends more on how the rewards in place work already, I'm sure these days it's not just "who gets the killing blow" but something more fair, giving EXP/reward to everyone that had a hand in helping bring down said player, from the healer who healed the guy, the guy who cc'd him, to the guy who did damage, etc.
Come now. The Frolic never inspired fear like the Horde. The zerg...well we will just continue to ignore them. Really now...which one cause more people to shite their pants? A rolling wall of keens coming over the hill or a rolling wall of TROLLS coming over the hill? Troll > keen. Therefore, Mid > hib.
(fixed punctuation) (When did Mids learn how to punctuate?)
Wolvan, the most dangerous horde of all is that which goes unseen... the keen wall of Stealth was the nemesis of all Midgard and Albion!!
Emercy,
The only dangerous stealthed keen in all of Hiberina-Percival was that one that kept hiding in the tree....

Bedevere > Lancelot all day. I played both buring the "peak". Lancelot just had more turds to kill on the other side. Free RP's and Lagged Again videos that I remember were just repeated killings of noobling albs zergs.
More meaningless drivel from developers that feel the need to create a sense of pride for the players.
The more a developer tries to create a sense of pride the more fake it feels to everyone that doesnt need their hand held with spoon fed content...Guess thats why his closed off realm/faction lands idea never took off even by other developers known for making limited games, that limitation was too restricting even for them.
The box is small, isnt it time to think out of it? You have had 12 YEARS to try to think up a new way to make a game...
LOL, what's it llke sitting out there all by your lonesome watching the rest of the folks inside having a good time? Pretty cold and bitter apparently.
Realm pride was real and no matter how you slice it, no other title since then has managed to duplicate it, so they obviously did something right that no one else has managed .
