Game developers are like politicians. They tell you that alot of x and y will be in the game but when u start playing it x and y are completely missing.
New MMo's are crap at the Core eventho they have alot of work put into them. its a damn shame.
There are plenty of things in life we should not do, yet we still do them. Posting here is but one of the many pointless activities I fill my life with, playing games is another.
Since gaming began players have not realised the effort it takes to make a game. This is a real problem in the MMO genre. In solo games, if a title is delayed players complain but they will still buy in when the game comes out. In a MMO if a content update is delayed they leave.
Chalk it up as entertainment for both posting here, and playing games.
Playing games need some commitment .. even a small 15 min block time is 15 min. Posting is much more convenient. I can even do it on my ipad when i have a 20 sec break in a meeting.

The problem is all the work seems to have gone into keeping up with solo game graphics and now voiceovers. There is not enough funding for even AAA titles to put more into a MMO than that now.
Mainly blaming the lack of ideas, not of the lack of 'good hard work' put into the making of a MMO.
That's actually a good reason to turn into a bashing moron : so much work going to waste... that's why , like most 'old school' but still 'hardcore' players I tend to bash on a lot of release.

I think many players tend to forget how much work DEVS put into thier game of choice. Worst yet many players after a MMO comes out will start to bash any given MMO just because it did not meet their expectations for whatever reason.
Naw. Most players just honestly don't have any clue. Unless you're paid to code for a living or paid to create on a title, you would be among the "most".
But it sounds like we're trying to excuse bad releases with how much work went into them, aw, poor fellahs? Oligarchies don't operate on pity. Substandard products inevitably fail; with or without their creator's best intentions and dedication to hard work. And without regard to their public relations strategy.
If developers want to resume having contact with players again? Then we can talk about their hard work and their families. As long as they don't, it's easy to treat them all as faceless members of EvilCorp. Evilcorp, as we all know, is remarkably easy to villainize—that's why we assume it as reflex.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
Fortunately, most cries of DOoooooooommm are grossly exaggerated.
Omg, Sim Citty is the Final Failure that will surely bring EA to it's knees! Take DOWN the Evil Empire at last!
(Whut? By EA's standards SimC is a cottage industry. Seemingly, already sold more boxes than they expected it to..)

What are you smoking? Look at WOW .. not anywhere close to solo game graphics, but what do they put into the game?

Now you may not like some of these things, but you can't say they are not MMO stuff.

The thing is, most of the time people direct their hate at the wrong person. Designers usually get all the flack, regardless of whether or not something is actually their fault. Bad release happen for a number of reasons. Sometimes the designers screwed up, sometimes the programmers did, many times it's actually the publishers who tank a project.
I don't think people should support bad projects, but it all too often goes to the extreme of wishing a bunch of (usually innocent people) get fired and can't support their families.
I understand the push to want better games (and I'm right there with it), but I'd argue that the best way to do this is to support good projects, not to start witch hunts against bad ones. Heck, even with EA (which is one of my most loathed companies atm), don't support their products, give your money to other people who are doing stuff you agree with, in a way you agree upon it.
Most importantly, I think people need to grow up a bit and realize that not every game is (or should be) specifically for them. That doesn't make them bad games, just of a different mindset.

WoW did the cartoon graphics when you could get away with it, do you really think a MMO could do that now? Look at how SWTOR got panned and its graphics are quite realistic for a more cartoon look. And remember SWTOR was a huge IP, it was able to smooth over many issues by pulling that card, just as WoW was back in the day. Todays MMO’s put graphics first and foremost, at the expense of everything else.
As to all the stuff WoW has put into its game, one word, funding. Other MMO’s are not getting that sort of funding so are not going to be able to keep updating the content. And for those content locusts out there, not even WoW can update quickly enough to keep them happy. Newer MMO’s are more graphically intense to develop and add content too, they have less funding than WoW and that issue is critical for them.

Have to remember; this is a forum. No one really hates anyone that much; drama requires we wave our arms and shout really loudly, so everyone will repect how upset we are.
But it's all just cheap drama and bad acting, meaningless.
