Ohh the memories of UO, which to share with you guys...

Well I'd have to say my best memory is when me and my buds found a key in trinsic, and went outside of trinsic to look for a castle, and found the castle. We opened it up, and started looting everything, throwing everything outside etc, basically ruining there long hours of work to afford that.

We took what we needed and wanted, and left everything outside... but.. with a few, well... minor modifications:>

I had a GM tinkerer and I trapped all of the chests and crates... Later that day we go back to check the castle out, theres a fresh corpse on the ground. and I'm red. I loot the corpse and theres a key rings with a bunch of keys, and there all named, castle, tower, house 1, house 2, ship etc... and with high end weapons and armour, yoink :)

Unfortunately the keys didnt fit into any other places in that area so we just threw them around trinsic, made copies and threw them away...

That was one of my funnest times and it was worth the time spent in my house days later :P

I play MMOs to do things I can't do in reality and to get a break from some of the worst aspects of our real world. Seeing things like vehement roleplay based on quasi-religious factions or indiscriminate PvP attacks takes away from my enjoyment of whichever game I'm in.  Not everyone feels that way, of course.  Good for them; I'll just gravitate towards games that don't lend themselves to that kind of play.
    Good luck to you.

Thought i replied to this, apparently the post got eaten.

You have to consider one thing, the servers I play on are PVP Servers. Everyone on this server is there for PVP, not PVE...PVE is just for farming new gear...If you dont like PVP your not on this server long.

ITs about the challenge of Player vs player combat, most of us are long time online gamer vets and I would say any given person on this server have played no less then 8 years. PvE is boring to us, outside those of us who still play games like EQ2 for the enjoyment of guild raiding, however to give an example, I spent approx 3 hours a night Raiding in EQ2 since that can be fit in after work. Weekends with exception to the evening raids are dedicated almost entirely to UO PVP.

As you said, its everyone's preference. As to the comment about not understanding indiscriminate player killing. I will sum it up like this. Why should mmorpg PVP be considered any different then an online FPS like UT, Bf1942 and its mods, Halo...etc? Reality of the matter is, PVP in a mmorpg has far more purpose and penalty then PVP in a FPS...FPS killing I consider indiscriminate killing, and outside Team based ladders I consider most of it pointless and boring..( and  yes I play my share of them ), PVP in an mmorpg however is simply completely different.

Asheron's Call, the greatest game ever made, back when you didn't have to turn off your brain to play.  Too many good times to list here but here goes...

In a cornor surrounded by 50 tuskers, in a hallway with more olthoi in front of me than I can count, hunting for uber items with random stats, jumping on and off everything I could find, racing through subway to get to a recenly open cottage, buffing up a level 1 and seeing him hit level 10 killing his first tusker in BSD, hunting golems for motes and going to the crater with my guild to make atlan weapons, finally putting on my first suit of GSA, raiding the singularity with 100 people while people drop dead all around me, going red and catching someone offguard with a full set of level 7 debuffs,  running around the obsidian plains looking for a Virindi Inquisitor and steel chests, having a guild of 5000 toons, oh, and yes quests where you had to think and explore instead of just killing X then Y then talk to Z.

Maybe I will quit EQ2 and go back to AC
