LF a specific type of class independent of the MMO.

Hi,

I'm wondering if someone out there in MMO land knows if there is a class that is focused on building stuff like say the engineer in Team Fortress 2 but much more complex and not an FPS but an MMORPG? If I could pick a class it would be cool to build stuff such as robot or sentry or turret or tools and other stuff that you fight with in the MMORPG and also lets you tinker with stuff and perhaps tradeskill.

Thanks,

Devinsam.

Well, it's an older game that was just resurrected recently, but you might find what you're looking for in Asheron's Call 2. They have a class called the "Tactician" that is all about building static turrets (among other things) to aid them in combat. I haven't played one personally, but I've heard it's one of the most unique classes in the game. Here's a guide I found for them on google that should give you an idea, in case you're interested - http://ac2vault.ign.com/?dir=guides&content=lugiantact

You could also ask around on the forums here about it, or on the official AC2 forums, assuming you have an account there. I'm sure someone there could give you far more details about it.

In any case, good luck on your search :).

    Hi Seilan and thanks!

Funnily enough I already have a subscription to Asheron's Call itself, and I just didn't take the time to check out AC2.

    No problem :).

Ha, that's convenient - since you already have a sub to AC1, you can also play AC2 without paying anything extra.  I'd say give it a shot and see how you like it. It certainly can't hurt.

Kind of an older game, and F2P, but RF Online has a pretty cool "Specialist" class system.

The game has 3 different races, each with their own types of abilities and specialties. When it comes to the Specialist class, the specialist in all 3 races can build turrets which are extremely powerful and can be vital in defending areas against hordes of enemies from the other races. Along with the turrets, the specialists are also the crafters of the game, with only them having the ability to turn resources into weapons, armor, and ammunition. Aside fromt he stuff I already listed, which applies to all 3 races, Specialists in each race also vary quite a bit.

Accretian Specialist - The only class capable of using anything above the most basic Grenade Launcher type weapon. Grenade Launchers allow you to us evarious ammo types which have varyious debuffs that can be applied to enemies (slow, weakness, virus, net, buff revoker, skill use prevention), grenades which both damage and stun enemies repeatedly, and healing ammunition (which is the only form of healers the Accretian race has). This is also the only Accretian class capable of resurrecting allies with one of its class variations, or with the other variation you can grant a large run speed boost to allies.

Cora Specialist - Can, along with turrets, also call forth a summoned pet which is a slightly altered version of the summoned pets available to an actual Summoner class. These serve varying purposes such as tanking, dps, healing, and cc / stun locking.

Bellato Specialist - Can become a class called a Driver, which is the only class capable of using MAUs. MAUs are large mechanized suits of armor which can take tons of damage and deal tons of damage, but can be quite costly to fully upgrade and replace if you manage to get yourself blown up while riding in one. There is a melee version and a ranged version of MAUs. The melee (Goliath) does not have as much pure killing power, but does have a spammable net which can keep enemies immobilized, and are extremely tough to kill. The ranged MAUs (Catapult) are much more easily destroyed, but when fully upgraded are easily capable of nearly instantly killing most enemies, especially DPS classes.
