I've gotten through three of the Malazan books so far but it's having trouble keeping my interest. I think I like having a central character or at least a smaller set of characters to keep my interest.
Check out P.C. Hodgell; she is writing a series of books called the Kencyrath. To me it's one of the least known about great series of books out there. The timeline of the writing in real life is kind of the like the Dark Tower. She wrote the first couple a long long time ago and is only now finishing up on it. She conveys a sense of story vast in scope yet based on only a couple of main characters.

Those books look interesting thanks! I'll add them to my list for sure. Do you ever follow Goodreads? That's where I have gotten so many of my good book suggestions!! It's like the LFGame thresd for for books! Of to read or even my shaman. ??
It lists 25 great books or series of books, of course subjective to the creator of the website. But I've found some good suggestions there. Also after each one it lists similar books to each entry so you end up with a ton of different leads. And at the end of course is the comment section where you can find even more that were left out. There are some other lists on there too for horror and other stuff. Locke Lamora is on there so maybe it's up your alley
