They butchered archer classes by changing Bow(melee) into some craptastic magic based Archery skill?
anyone know the reason why this was done?
The reason was the code had become so obfuscated after expansions, rewrites, etc and there was a lot of programmer turnover, so newer coders had a difficult time making changes. They just rewrote the code for archery to work like spellcasting so they could continue to tweak archery along the way. I guess you could say it was a timesaving measure.
Not sure when it happened, if MJ was still with EA he was probably working more on WAR.
This was the worst change to the game, in my opinion. Loved the original style for bows. Much more immersive than pressing a button to shoot a firebolt or whatever the other lame magical arrows were.

Was nice to be able to draw string, wait for snipe or change target.

I remember that! Both my SB and Inf were useless! Well... my Inf was useless before that, but it was around the same time! Yeah, I'm not sure why the elephant in the room *cough* nightshade *cough* took so long to get nerfed.

Couldn't catch us Lurikeens.
At least LA was still LA, just nerfed. Bow specs are just a bastardized spell caster system now.

Pff, my 2-H critblade would own any NS that crossed my path....unless they were higher RR....or i missed my PA.....or they were a better player....in which case i still maintain they were cheating, all of them....
....yeah, i sucked quite badly
Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy
Scout was my 2nd favorite class behind Warrior (probably would've been first, if they were Midgard). I didn't touch my Scout after the bows changed. From there on in, I was pretty much all warrior, with some shaman and bonedancer play in there. The bow change was horrible. At least I could still climb walls on my warrior and pummel the archers on the walls XD
Edit: And I hated Scouts after that, seemed everytime I attacked the ramparts with my warrior against albion, a scout will stun me and run off

It wasn't just changing it to act like magic (which was morinic) but changing all the abilities to essentially be spells. It robbed the classes of their entire identity. And no, Jacobs wasn't there when it happened, not on DAoC anyway.

Just mutter the magical words "DEKCUS AOT" and everything will be OK.

The archery changes happened long after that bag of hot vomit.
i loved having a quiver of my master fletcher arrows of all kinds.
Having a bow where you picked the speed/damage...and being able to swap em.
Oh I know. :-) I was jut trying to make a joke. I knew a lot of Scouts who quit after it went into play.

True - I hated it so much ;( Daoc was unique for archers.
He went to WAR in 2008. AFAIK archer changed in 2009 (don't hit me don't remember exactly).
