Ok... Guys... Take it easy on JamesP. He's not the one who started this whole fiasco. He's the one who's been stuck with the very uncomfortable job of damage control for Jason Appleton's blunder. He never asked for any of this. It may be the half of bottle of Rum I've consumed tonight talking but he seems like a pretty decent guy stuck in a very uncomfortable position. Your ire should be directed at Jason and not JamesP.

It is sad that Greed Monger is fraught with so many issues. It sounded great, but ultimately it sounds like the creator is too ambitious and too inexperienced to get it done. One shame is that it is going to make even more people not want to chip in to Kickstarters, particularly the ones who got burned personally.

Exactly. Like it or not, you will be judged by the company you keep. A shame, because JamesP seems like a decent guy. Make no mistake though, when this game fails Mr. Appleton will throw the entire team under the bus without a second thought in order to save his own skin. I've worked for far too many people like him, and am very familiar with that type of person.
JamesP, if you value your reputation as a programmer, you will leave this company at the earliest opportunity. Your boss is far too egotistical & sue-happy, and I don't forsee this project ending in anything but tears.
Any feedback is good feeback. What's worse than negative feedback is no feedback. It's the gaming industry so people are going to say alot of things and not all of them are going to be nice especially to people who are really passionate about gaming. If I made a game that was the next thing and wasn't receing any feedback I'd be worried so any feedback is good despite sometimes being lame and stupid.
I think Jason's main job is something non gamer anyways.

If one person associated with Greed Monger is threatening lawsuits because he doesn't like the game getting criticized in online forums, and another person associated with the game is actually coming here and saying non-incendiary things in the midst of withering criticism, let's not confuse the two. I have a good bit of respect for anyone who can wade into an avalanche of criticism pointed his direction and try his best to answer it.
Maybe JamesP will decide that Greed Monger is enough of a fiasco that he'll give up on it. Or maybe he knows that there are good things going on behind the scenes that we can't see from here and the attacks will blow over soon enough. But let's not blame him for the antics of Jason Appleton, okay? Brenelael is right.
"Maybe one day we'll re-add the game to our list, but that depends on whether or not our users are allowed to post about it without the site being under threat of legal recourse."
Welcome to another factor in the wonderful modern world of MMO's and gaming. We now have MMO's not yet made threaterning legal action about negative comments. How long before this thread gets deleted? But remeber guys, MMO's and gaming are doing wonderully, never better, keep taking those happy pills!
Perhaps they should change the name to Threat Monger. From a business stand point, as a developer it is both stupid and counter productive to antagonize people running sites like this. Who do you think does the articles for these games? And being a jackass is going to improve your relationship with the people doing the coverage how? It is not as if this site never warrants any criticism regarding the over-hyping of the games of paid advertisers (I have called them on it several times myself, as have many others) but to complain about moderation on an open forum shows a marked lack of maturity and professionalism on the pat of a developer. Can't take criticism? Get in different business. (Perhaps the guy should go back to selling that fake herbal viagra or whatever.)
I have to say that I'm saddened by your postings here.
#1. I made it clear in my email to you that I had no intentions of taking legal action against mmorpg.com but I did present clear cases of slander and defamation suits that this website is known for harboring. I understand that such things are great for page views and thus advertising revenue, but the intention of my email was to simply remove the slandering and defaming posts from this site that the people who created them continued to post in other mediums.
One of these cases I presented in that email was this one:
The fact is, slander and defamation are a big deal. You simply can't run around hiding behind anonymous usernames while spreading lies and falshoods about people in efforts to damage their reputation and or business. There is a difference between saying "His game is awful!" to "hes a liar and a scammer taking your money and running!"
Now, contrary to what some may say, I've made many efforts to make ammends with those who have slandered and or defamed me with no basis whatsoever but that didnt work. I talked to a lawyer about it and he simply said, take screenshots of everything, ask for it to be removed, (which it all was) and then if people persist in their actions, we go from there. I don't want to have to resort to legal action against anyone, but from what I've seen, people really think that their geographic location or anonyminity will protect them.
I wrote a letter the other day that my community manager is preparing to publish today applauding mmorpg.com for their quick reaction to my requests, but to find these posts from you Bill, I have to say I'm dissappointed. As a primary medium for MMORPG gaming, I'd like to think that this site would be more interested in taking an active stance against slander and defamation instead of defending it and encouraging it.
I am not a faceless corporation. I am a man, developing a game with others and have been attacked, lied about, slandered and defamed personally by members of this site. I also have a day job in finance and a family of 5 that depend on me and my livlihood to support them. Personal attacks on my honesty, integrity and the like cause more damage than just swaying people to not support my game. It's damaging to me personally and financially with my day job as well. This is the difference between trolling me, an independent developer and a corporation. It's not about "having thick skin" or "sucking it up with trolls". It's about feeding my children and paying my mortage and not having to worry about some anonymous people on the internet spreading terrible lies about me to serve themselves.
The message is clear from here on, I simply can't and won't sit idle and let this activity continue. Say whatever you like about the game. Hate it, love it, whatever, but when it comes to me and members of my team who are all working very hard on this game, keep to the facts.
That's all I have to say about this.
Thank you.

So in other words, you think the site could and maybe should be sued for slander, and have talked to a lawyer about it and told this site so, but you're not actually directly threatening to sue the site just yet? Yeah, that clarifies things. < /sarcasm>
If you wanted to make it clear that you weren't threatening to sue, then you'd have said something to the effect that under no circumstances would you sue mmorpg.com for what random forum members say. But you didn't, and that speaks volumes.

This is exactly why I personally think you are a D-Bag Jason. If you had no intention of taking legal action then why did you bring it up AND reference examples? Of course, your lack of management ability is also a factor in my assumption of your intelligence level. Seriously, you posted all these reasons why Unity was bad and had to move to Hero and then you move back? You ask for $30k on Kick, get $90K, sell out on plots and THEN you come back asking for more money because you have lack financial management ability and did not properly plan for what you actually needed?
The truth is, most people here dont honestly believe you are running with the money. I am sure you are working on an actual product but I would also bet money your backers will be sorely disappointed in the released product and it will get universally bad reviews at launch. Not due to the coders but to your lack of management ability. Perhaps you would be better off selling sex enhancment pills again or running for governor of Ohio. I would personally vote for you. You are not any worse than the officials we have in office now.

dont like it, dont back it. that easy.

but accusing him of things, doing crusade against him, hiding behind anonymous status, there should be action against such behaviour.
dont get me wrong, for me the game developing seems also unprofessional, but he didnt lie about himself yet. i mean, i would have kept all that secret when i was him, but he seems to be a honest traightforward guy, little naiv, but there have to be people like him.

On to your question, I can not explain it to you unless you point me to the exact spot where MMORPG.com made a remark about Jason that was untrue. You see, MMORPG did not make any false comments that I am aware of, individual posters have done that NOT MMORPG.com to my knowledge, but if you can point me to those comments, I will try adjust my prespective a bit.
