In this video he shows a character model in the engine, assuming it's for the game? Then he goes to say the game doesn't have fancy graphics. Thoughts?
He clearly says the model is from one of their previous games. If you want huge battles with decent framerates, you either sacrifice some graphics, play on a supercomputer or suffer terrible framerates. I'd take less graphics features.
Tabletop RPG gaming since Chainmail and D&D was a blue book with some cheap plastic dice and a crayon. MMORPGing since MOOS/MUDS, when forums were just bulletin boards and players actually roleplayed their characters.

The character model they are using is from a game called March on Oz. It's a game they developed for the Ipad. Wait till they do some models for CU and also, the current engine is in it's early stages and will change over the course of the development cycle.

It was a demo that was writen in a week. it is not THE ENGINE. I would expect stylized art in this game over photo realistic.
Kyleran: "Now there's the real trick, learning to accept and enjoy a game for what
it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience
because it lacks a few features you prefer."
John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in
the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you
playing an MMORPG?"
Aye the toons you saw in the demo were the Tuatha Dé Danann also afectionally known as Turds. The other factions will all be normal pc's you would expect in and modern mmo. Just Kidding or course. Everyone will play a non cartoon pc. That was just a demo of 10,000 toons on screen at once. And the toons were not from CU but an erlier game just for demonstration.
If you watch the video he says its a avatar from their iOS game March on Oz (Electra, here is a concept art pic of her http://citystateentertainment.com/great-book-of-concept-art/?pid=38) they just used as a place holder and will have another video soon with a concept art avatar for CU.
From what I gather what they were trying to convey is their concerns of having "large scale" combat and to date there were no engines that were specifically designed to accomdate the mass scale of on-screen avatars and they wanted to build a "better" engine to handle just that...After the core features for that are done then the graphics engine would be applied to the extent that is attainable to permit "smooth" large scale combat.

Don't feed the troll.
My name is Plastic-Metal and my name is an oxymoron.
It's not the engine, but personally I hope they do some cell shaded stuff.
As long as it can be be toggeled on and off I am ok with it. It's a matter of taste but I really dislike cell shaded graphics. Just not a fan of it at all.
Same here. I strongly dislike cell shaded graphics. I am okay with cartoony graphics depending on the game. For instance I like it fine in Wildstar. I don't think that is the art style I want in CU though. I'd love to see something similar to DAOC's style but enhanced for modern computer systems and optimized for mass RvR combat (by which I mean a few hundred players or less in an area).

Let's cheat like FF7 and use coloured polys instead of textures ;D
