Beware of the Evils of the Red Light District !
Deep in the heart of a Hariharan city, lies the slums, and in those slums lies the Red Light District. A place where all sorts of evils and sins can happen. A player can lose themselves to the calling of the booze, hookers and blow! Players must use caution when going to these parts, or they may never be seen again. (Looks at Elrar!)

I don't get this at all. Is this supposed to be immersion? I prefer my games NOT to be like RL.
Don't forget that the game is being 'Westernized' and that means we may not have this in the game released here.

You can't say that as you DON'T know - remember ASS U ME. I know in the US, this would be picketed by every religious nut out there. If they want the broadest appeal in the US, this will be pulled.

You make it sound like an unreasonable thing that someone wouldn't want to financially support a game that panders to the sex market. There are many other games out there that are entertaining without having gone this route. The reveal of this aspect of Archeage will deter people who don't want this in their virtual playtime. I highly doubt this will make it into the Western version though.
Just the pure existence of the place in the MMO makes you lose interest in it?

The few controlling the many, I didnt see this comming.I don't see it as "pandering to the sex market" or exploitation or anything like that. It seems like it is simply a place with an atmosphere for those looking to do that kind of roleplay. I personally won't participate but I can't see anything wrong with it either. It's not like they are pulling a scarlet blade lol...

These kind of statements are baffling. Immersion is what you make of it. Having less features doesn't make a game more immersive.
Video games are a good escape from stuff that someone would never do in RL. Visit the Red Light District, mug someone, kill them .. serve evil forces, etc.
The westernized version should just have a poster of Duke Nukem in there.. if that's too immersion breaking, then maybe the girls should randomly say, "Come get some!", "It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum!" .. "You're an inspiration for birth control!" ... =D .. and of course they need to be killable..

OMG boobies! I hate this game! Nevermind there is no nudity and it's just a TINY portion of the game world that you never EVER need to visit. Oh, and it's totally cool to be a mass murderer. We can all cut peoples heads off and teabag their throats, but any inference to anything sexually normal is NOT okay.

I find the comments to be quite funny. If you watch a recent postmortem video about "Ultimate Online" (search "GDC Vault UO class game postmortem"), the earliest player-created profession was a player who role-played he was a pimp by a city's docks and he pimped out women to other players for cyber tricks (no joke)..... So, it is even the oldest profession in the MMO world.

With the world we live in, I just can't bring myself to care or feel moral indignation. "If it's a mature rated game" then fine. So they got a red light district in a sand box? Maybe you can get a lap dance like in GTA IV. LOL. I hope they make good use of it as an adventure location rather than just some cyber sex hang out. Frankly considering the state of goldshire and booty bay on some servers WOW might have benifited from doing the same so they could contain the crap somewhere kids won't walk in on. But then again Blizzard's got trade chat and they don't care. I mean it's not looking like a seedy sell out for cash like when SWTOR suddenly added bikini panties to the cash shop with F2P. It's there from the get go.
DEV teams aren't stupid. It's part of the game because they think it will attract players. Even people like you and me. It leads me to question what they think we want from our games anymore?
I'm not entirely sure what this has to do with anything. I agree that the red light district in Archage is fine, but I think statements like this are asinine.
I honestly have no definitive answer to why I and others feel this way. I'm not religous in the least, but I do view sex as a personal private thing. Its not something I like in a public setting nor do I care to see others engaging in sexual acts especially in a public setting. I'll even be a bit honest, sex in MMOs and such make me feel uncomfortable and this is likely because I view it as a very personal, private, intimate act. Nudity on the other hand I wouldn't mind accept for the fact that there are way to many immature players out there. Look at a game like Mortal Online where guys would get behind each other nude and act like they are humping each other.
On the other hand I've never had the urge to go out and set fire to anyone, to shoot anymore, to behead anyone or anything of that nature. It's not something I feel most people have the desire or urge to do. No matter how realistic they make killing someone or something in game look it never seems realistic. It never tugs on any emotions or anything. I know its fake, I have no desire to actually harm anyone, it has no connection to or impact on me or my reality.
You do realise there are cultures in this world WAY more assertive against sex and nudity than standard secular American culture. Yet you try to generalize based on your own narrow minded views of what the world is. I take it you've never spent anytime engrossed in the secular culture of the states, because it's no where near as prudish as you choose to believe.

Regardless, if people want to write off this game because of sex in the game thats for them to decide. Personally I like that type of thing, it takes the prudes out of the game, that is a plus for me.
Anyway I will admit I am surprized that people feel this way considering with how games are now a days, sex is everywhere. ESPECIALLY in JRPG's every female or even male is sexualized to extremes.
Don't really understand your generalization of Americans, sure we have prudes in America but take one trip to Vegas and you will lose all merit to your generalization.
