I hate the game now...here is why:
1) Object re-use:
Nothing says lazy devs, boring content, and zzzz when you keep re-using objects and regardless of whether its landscapes, interiors or exteriors, right now its to the point of ruining the games immersion and is cheesy cheap. For example, Arkfalls are a HUGE part of this game....yet, the Ark falls do not look like the cool space debris consisting of parts of Spaceship Ark interiors like you see in the first 15 minutes of the Episode 1 video. NOPE...they are genric blobs of leftover RIFT crap. They look like crap, the loot is crap, its exactly like dynamic spawns in RIFT where you have a circle of stupid stuff surrounding something. Frankly, the RIFT dynamic events are better than the ones in Defiance by a MILE.
You will soon get tired of all the landscapes, buildings and interiors to teh point of total boredom. I understand it gets better, but heck....why must every MMO force us to fight the same type of minions for hours on end - Rats = Hell Bugs. Freaking tired of stupid looking boring Hellbugs!
Give us something else!
2) Horrible Game Design:
The Weapon MOD interface is the worst in eh game industry and it doesnt even work properly IF and WHEN you figure out how it works.
3) Social and Chat is FAIL:
No one uses chat because you have to press Enter to use it and that keeps you from doing anything else. The game might as well me a PS3 console port in Single Player.
4) Loot Stinks:
The first several times you waste 30 minutes at an Arkfall with other players and get nothing other than junk loot, you stop bothering with them.
5) Quests are buggy and subject to server time outs:
So far there have been 2 quests that took hours to complete because they would time out do to server issues and you would not know it until the NPC you are escorting is unresponsive. You have to log out and log back in to fix , which forces you to start over.
6) Time trial quests give nothing:
If you dont place in top 3, you get NOTHING...not even XP.
7) Should be F2P with microtranactions:
Instead you buy the game for $59 and also have microtransactions, thats double dipping all for a sub par game.
8) Quest line comes and goes:
Sometimes the main quest line disappears and you get a message saying to use your map to do other quests. For the past 4 hours there has been NOTHING except the main quest which i cannot complete without a group. No Ark falls except for 1 or 2 small ones on the far side of the map, which when I get there will be over. No side quests for the past 4 hours either...BORING
9) Weapon stats are hosed:
Weapons with great stats stink and weapons with poor stats are good...you do not know what to buy, loot, or sell or keep or discard. Most green weapons are better than blue. You have no clue what you are using.
CONCLUSION:
Save your money until they fix the game, re-design it, or something better comes out.

I dont see any love here...just hate
How on earth did you not get into the beta to see for yourself that you werent going to like it.?
I could go down point by point with this but i dont see a point. A lot of your objections are pretty funny and ill leave it at that.
Oh and this seems nearly word for word the same troll posts on the defiance forums, so im guessing you are that guy or someone who just copy and pasted a few complaints and havent played.
In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.
Certainly not the greatest game ever made but its a lot of fun and a very welcomed change of pace from all the wow clones out there.
I think the biggest issues thats getting some people is that content is going to be paced somewhat with the TV show, so untill the TV show gets rolling were kind of stuck with the basic intro content...not that there isnt a ton of stuff to do outside of the main story.
I did agree with the guys overwhelming hatred for some of the timed and challange events, though not as childish about it. I just simply do them once if they sound interesting and move on, i dont have a NEED to get ranked for rewards or a fly off the handle.
Oh and the "reused assets" its almost like the current maps are suppose to be like so area in northern california...possibly the bay area. So your not going to walk 5min and then see some mushroom forest, and then another 5 min an your in a volcano wasteland, and then another 5min and your in the barrens....your pretty much dealing with raiders and mutants as the story indicates being the issue with the area...oh and hell bugs which the baby ones are kinda rat like and ever so satisfying to run over in your car...the bigger ones are another story however.
Theres a lot of wtf in the hate rant though. Its like someone played the game for 10min then went to the forum and copy and pasted a couple of the troll threads and reposted them here with some of his own issues. Which i find odd since it was a "from love to hate" thread but it doesnt seem that there was any intentions to love the game given how most issues are either copy pastes of other peoples complaints or skin deep issues that ignore the IP and storyline.
*shrugs*
its a new game and people on this site only like unreleased games and GW2 so i can understand this.
I'll do it.
1. There are more tha just hellbug Arkfalls. Hellbug Arkfalls do seem to be more frequent, so I'll give you that.
2. At first, I was frustrated with the weapon mod interface but figured it out. If you have a weapon equipped on any loadout, you can't mod it. I'm only frustrated by getting the mods now.
3. Yeah, I haven't been able to use the chat system since launch so not sure whats going on here but it will be fixed obviously.
4. I've looted blue and green items so far on arkfalls, never a purple or red though. I got a red item once from a tier 4 lockbox. Anyway, the item color doesn't have much to do with it's stats, it's the amount of progression you can get out of that weapon. Progression towards your weapon skill level.
5. I haven't run into this at all. I had one quest where the NPC looked like they were doing nothing but the progress bar was still going so, meh.
6. Time trial quests are actually quite rewarding. You get good exp, money and ark supply. If you get a gold medal on them all there is another reward you get (look it up in goals).
7. Ignoring this one.
8. I don't know what to tell you here, there are some main missions where you have to go it alone. It will kick you out of group when you accept it. Try to do some co-op maps(dungeons) to get a few levels to get the quests unlocked? I never ran into a lack of anything to do.
9. Weapon stats are actually very clear. If you're looking for a purple weapon because you think it will have better stats that a green weapon, you're doing it wrong. You will get more progression from the purple weapon towards your weapon skill level. Some purple weapons will have certain bonuses or perks with a synergy mod set, but the base stats (damage, fire rate, etc.) will be the same for certain weapon types. I'll just say don't waste your ark supply because it takes a LOT to mod weapons in later levels. Also, learn to mod your weapons early.
Conclusion, OP, I don't know your experiance with the game but mine has been a lot of fun. If this is a troll post it now has a truthful opinion for someone checking out the game to look at.
My advice is to do more research and look at what the devs have said. Some of the stuff you are complaining about you were already warned about, some of the stuff you are complaining about is from you not understanding how things worked though the devs could improve things as well and make things clearer.
I do find this funny though, you've made two posts on Defiance lol...

Other than hunting for the Options Menu and how to exit the game:
Little wheel on bottom left....
I have been enjoying the game for the past few hours, and this from a guy who doesnt like shooter type games, and especiially MMOs. But, Defiance is different than most shooters and MMOs. There is a good storyline, quests, side quests, and dynamic quests. There are no stupid static mobs standing around to be hunted, like many MMOs. Instead, you are immediately thrust into a exciting storyline with nice cinematics, and lots of immersion. The graphics are great, and not sure what people were complaining about, to me it looks great. Combat doesnt require the reflexes of a mongoose, nor does driving a vehicle, but yet its not boring or slow like many MMOs. Its in the middle ground on both.
Loot is amble, quests are challanging, driving is a blast and you get achievements for your exciting driving stunts and stuff.
The only negatives are like I said, parts of the UI, which you will eventually figure out, its not that bad. Community is good, but chat is flat....I do not think anyone really knows how to use it. Not that I care..I hate chat, and by default its hidden unless you press enter which is fine by me.
So in a nutshell, I am enjoying this game alot so far adn if you have $60 burning a hole in your pocket then go for it.
And this threads post.
Its funny how much they contradict each other in just 3 days time.
what Greyghost79 said is all also true.
fixed it for you.....
"going into arguments with idiots is a lost cause, it requires you to stoop down to their level and you can't win"
And here we go again...
first "Oh shiny" *throws money*
and then "What a load of ... is this!? How dare you!"
So maybe, just maybe, you want to actually use your brain before buying a game next time? Of course this only works if you have experience of how companies release their titles and how they gonna look like. Experienced players didnt even touch the damn title, but hey - go for it. More money wasted for companies who dont get their thing right in order to give customers proper titles that has an indepth story, a learning curve and content which makes addicting.
Learn from it. Thats all you can do. And next time ask yourself: "Do I remember myself last time? Maybe I should be a little bit more careful."
Oooh psycho babel ... (put's hand up) analyse me next
for now I dislike chat, just cant figured how it working or it is just too much silence out
other stuff in game are ok,it is not perfect but very funy game & I enjoying in gameplay
Problem with Defiance content is that it is short and the side missions are really really boring and un imaginative. it is as if devs put no thought in side missions and just piled up one mission over the others just to show that there are lot of missions for playerbase.
The main storyline is good though and that is the only thing keeping me playing for now. Arkfalls are like Rifts so nothing new for me. but ffor those who never played Rift would enjoy it for a while.
Then there are time trials and rampage missions which again get very repetitive in a day or two. Then all you left with is two PVP maps and co op maps which i have only unlocked one so far and i am almost off the first island. How many times can you do one co op map? i gave up after 4 times.
So all in all very little stuff to do besides your main story line.
Defiance is a good side single player game for an hour or two on weekends.
So youre still in the very 1st zone, have experienced like 10% of the content and have already decided there is very little to do. Sounds like good logic.
There are more PvP maps, theyve just been temporarily taken out. Might be put back in with the next big patch or something.
Youve unlocked 1 Co-op map. You unlock more as your EGO rating gets higher. Im at a little under 500 EGO right now and have I think 5 unlocked.
You havent even unlocked Contracts yet, which you start getting at 250 EGO.
Have you even done a Shadow War yet?
Tons of pursuits to go after.
Also @ the OP. At least half of your post is just flat out incorrect. For example, not getting any reward unless you place in the top 3 spots for trials. Completely false. The top 3 people listed are just that, the top 3 people. They all got the same reward. Rewards are based on meeting specific scores, built into the game, which qualify you for gold, silver, or brone rewards. It has absolutely nothing to do with what anyone else scores.
If youre going to hate on a game, at least make sure you understand simple mechanics before hating on them.
When i say i am almost done with first Island means i am very end of the big island. nest Mission will take me to small island area to the right of map.
So you open one more co op map? pvp maps are taken out? convenient. But i am talkign about content that is currently in game. And i have seen a lot more than 10% but thanks for pullign that number out of thin air.
Shadow wars i queued up but hardly anyone joins. Only two PVP maps and one co op map is instant.
Maybe you count stuff like pursuits, titles etc content for me it is just fluff so i am not even going to bother with those.
I don't know how anyone can say that Defiance has lot of content and features with a straight face.
On top of that..
No banks
No trade / aucton house
No mail system
No way to trade items with other players
One of the worst chat system in recent MMOS which is still not working.
No sense of community, you can play for hours anyone hardly says a word. Yelling in Area chat is of no use.
Now you can just wrap it all together and label it as a hate. But i just call it the way i see it.
meh, I only got 3 words for the haters...It's still fun..
or is "it's" considered 2 words...then it's four words...oh well, It's still fun...
Edit: And chat is so 2000s, get on vent or defiance mumble...you don't even have to type omgz!
That is what i do when with guildies but than the game which has Arkfalls( aka Rifts) a working and better chat is very important to co ordinate with others. I don't play with guildies all the time. I also like to help and get help from people outside guilds during events and random missions which thanks to broken chat system is impossible to do.
A lot of people don't even realize that they are being invited to team because it is so easy to miss and to add to woes there is no option send a private message or whisper.
Voice Chat is not a magic stick to solve all these problems.
A proper and working chat is vital for MMOS.

Not sure how you came to the conclusion that the difference between your 1 co-op map and my 5 is 1 instead of 4... but OK. Also, correction, I am over 500 EGO now and currently have 7 Co-op missions.
Also Pursuits are not just "fluff". Yes some of them reward titles, outfits, etc but they also get you a ton of EGO levels for them.
Yes you can trade with other players.
Chat works just fine for me, though I agree with many it could be improved with things like a zone / area wide chat instead of just local.
There is no real need for banks in the game. What would you even need to put in a bank? More of the same guns youre already carrying?
Not really sure how people not talking is a game feature rather than people simply choosing not to talk...
I hope you only talkign about yourself when you say 'bank is not needed'. I have even bought the inventory slots from the shop and maxed out ark hunter cods to get more inventory but it simply not enough. Given that you need a lot of different kind of weapons in the game and on top of that all the mods and ifferent ype of gernades..it is easily adds up.
So yes bank is needed to stash these items, especially mods. I have mdos for weapons i havent even got yet but savign them in inventory is a pain.
Even Borderland had banks to stash items i am sure Defiance can do better for a game who tries to pass itself as a MMO.
As far as co op mission goes they don't come soon enough. I am almsot 300 ego skills and i still have that same one co op map. I just ignore it now. Compared to rift where there were so many dungeons avilable to you at low levels, if nothign else it helps you to branch out a bit more and adds a little variety in gameplay.
And people not choosing to talk..well i wouldn't bother talking too if chat system was this horrible. However as of today chat isn't working again. So no choice atleast today.

The first reviews are coming in.
Looks like the OP is not alone with his opinion after all....the game receives rather mediocre scores and harsh critic on various gaming sites.
Ok, banks, trade/auction house, mail system (seriously?) and trading...dont make a game. No sense of community is found in every game, im in mumble with my community...have you seen chat in any modern and populated mmo? You want that?
Personally im fine with my bank always being on me (i have some 50+ slots in my bag ) I could care less about a mail system for gold farmers to use, chat i typically turn off as its horrible (though i do see people chatting, its not common though) I believe they intened for people to use the in game voice chat (people dont even use chat for coordination anymore in other game) I do hear theres an issue with too many people with hot mics on the consols though so maybe they are reworking it.
Content thats currently in game, which im assuming your refering to is just the main storyline, since if you only focus on that it makes the argument that the game is short as a valid argument, is something that expands with each episode...remember the TV show tie in...?
I get it that a lot of people are going to hate the game, and that the popular thing to do is call every released game a piece of trash. I get it that no good mmorpg has ever been made according to the site.
Im having fun with it, which is what i wanted. It wont last me 10 years playing 15hrs a day but im not able to play like that and really im in it for the entertainment not anything more. When i grow tired of it, be it next week or 6 months from now ill move on like an adult because $60 isnt a big deal to me, and shouldnt be a big deal to you if your gaming to begin with.
I do expect a lot of these skin deep "i saw this on another site" negative reviews, i expect to see the token guy who starts posting financial reports to prove the game is bad, i expect hordes of people who dont even post to downvote the game...this is all standard mmorpg.com stuff so im fine with it tbh.
Really if i didnt enjoy wading in the sewer that this site has become i wouldnt bother, im surprised anyone who uses this site even plays a PC game given how shitty and horrible every single game is...according to the site i mean.
Its funny how such non-factor things like mail, banks, and trading become a massive issue when your goal is to trash a game...isnt it?
I was inh the alpha up until release and beta weekends and played the game very casually as I usually do in beta situations to avoid burn out and knowing there is an impending wipe to come.
Upon release I dove in full force and played through the entire story/main quest series in a matter of about 15 hours (WTF?!) Now all that is left are doing the extremely redundant side missions and arkfalls.
Initially you would think "this is great" like it is a Borderlands MMO, until you realse the items you recieved from the first quests you are still using as you finished the last quests. There is zero progression... I mean yeah... there is the usual MMO faire of "white, green, blue, purple" items that we have gotten accustom to, however the differnce in the items are so minimal and sparce there is zero logic to it... we are talking about .1 to reload times in some cases.
Doin the arkfalls are about the equivalent of doing thumpers in Firefall, only firefall is a lot more fun...
This game is a complete sham... Borderlands 2 is FAR superior (although it does not have the MMO component)
This game has been designed as if the Defiance IP has meaning... as of right now it is not even a show yet... and c'mon it's on SyFy network.... which is not even a major channel... hell starwars as an IP isn't even doing that great in the MMO arena and they are a legendary IP...
Trion is definately not the same company it once was and I can see why Hartsman jumped ship... If this is the level of quality we can expect moving forward from them, I don't have much faith for Archage.
What are your other Hobbies?
Gaming is Dirt Cheap compared to this...
Youre almost 300.... out of 5000. Youre 6% of the way to being maxed out. I wasnt aware being 6% of your max level is considered high. Thats the same as being level 6 in a game with 100 max, or level 3 in a game with 50 max. How many dungeons did you have to do in Rift at similar levels? Thought so.
Next time could we please stick to talking about Defiance and not mmorpg.com? thank you.
