Kickstarter: Mark it is imperative to me as a potential backer to understand the targeting system

CananCanan Member UncommonPosts: 95

Hello, I know the second update about combat is coming sometime today and I'd like you to delve deeper on your targeting system.  One of the reasons I follow this game is because of how much I loved Dark Age of Camelot and the core game functions within. In order for me to support this game it is imperative that I understand your vision of this particular system. Are you planning on it being something like GW2 or more like DAoC (with reticle targeting for sniper type classes only?) I mainly play a healer type character and I do not enjoy healing systems that do not let me directly target my allies so I'd like some insight before putting down cash into a game I might not enjoy.

Thank you in advance!

You know there has been very little detail released about healers. There will be true healer classes (Mark has repeatedly mentioned that healers will be among the classes each realm will have at release), so it won't be like GW 2 where there is no true healer, everybody has a self-heal, and all healing is area-based. But it would be good to get more information like you are asking.

AFAIK there will be healer classes.

They won't be OP as in WoW, where a healer can outheal five players and slowly kill each of them.

It will probably be like War Online:

Healers are strong in the background.

Once people hit them, they are fucked.

What? Where does all this stuff come from?

how can a healer even survive in pvp to heal if everone automaticly focus fires on the healers first. Its not like pve where mobs can be taunted off a healer.. and what little pvp Ive done its always a ffa where everyones only concern is themselves.

It was very possible in DAOC as you can see from my sig (R11 druid & cleric in DAOC and also R6 & R5 healer not listed):

    • Lots of enemies are dumb and don't in fact focus fire the healer but instead target the closest target which is your tanks. Those groups are known as easy realm points.
    • Even smart groups go for your damage dealers first and just try to interrupt your healers with pets, CC spells, etc.
    • Your group protects its healers by peeling enemy tanks and pets off them, nearsighting enemy casters, etc.
    • You run with 2 primary healers and possibly one or more secondary healers. If one primary healer is unable to cast heals, the others take up the slack.
    • Healers can earn realm abilities that allow them to heal even when interrupted such as Mastery of Concentration or Divine Intervention. Also they have various instant heals that can't be interrupted.
    • Other realm abilities and class abilities mitigated damage such as resist buffs, guarding with shield spec, bodyguard and grapple Master Level abilities, pulsing bladeturn, etc.
But yeah healing was hard and often frustrating. But when you were able to cast heals, you could keep even a caster alive through heavy damage. Hopefully CU will find a good balance of making healers able to do their job but not so well that they are invincible and their group unkillable.

That's why you form a group with smart tactical players and you have more than 1 healer.  Players peel, CC, assist, burn down.enemy healers first, intercept/guard healers,  other healers heal thru enemies burst damage, etc. A lot of things can be done.  It  depends on the group makeup and situation.

Add it to the list of things potential backers want to know but the lack of any real detail means they can either take a punt or not bother.

Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy :)
