Ok i think most know im not for this games KickStarter and meh i prefere not to normaly harp agisnt games in a big way.

somehting that has been getting on my nerves alot of late is that its ok for a new thread about this game to appear every 5 mins or so in favor of it, but when someone post on said thread asking question or explaing why they are aginst it people jump on them like cats on sardines. and say they shouldnt even post.

so im going to sit here and let ya rip me up all you want, cause im going to ask a few simple questions that is the core of what most people have agint it.

1. ( the main one) what happens when this game gets kickstarted but never launchs ( theroetical question not saying it wont)

2. where is all the info on this game in detail, most things about the game are extrweamly vague at best, heck i cant figure out more about it then its a DAoC clone.

3. What makes the chances of this game being great more then that of any other PvP or RvR based MMO, when there are so many already that promised the exact same thing this one dose.

4. why am i giveing money to someone to work on thier dream project when they themselves wont put money into it before me. (yes i know hes going to add money if we do but he should have done that to begin with, but him commiting to it first would make me fill alot better)

5.am i going to have to buy the game after investing in the kickstarter, for that matter what kind of payment system will it be. ( this info might be out there i just dont know myself to be honest)

OK rage away and tear it up, do what you want but please give me actual useful info here, preferably with links sources and facts.

P.S. lets see how long before im subject to fanboy rage, instead of logic here.

P.S.S. let me clarify im not aginst the game i enjoy PvP & RvR games sometimes, its the whole kickstarter thing that give me the willies.

F2P may be the way of the future, but ya know they dont make them like they used toimage

I think most frustration with the "negative" posts comes from the fact that a majority of the questions can be answered by a google search. Why should they waste their time to answer the same questions over and over again because some asshole is too lazy to read. Take your question on the backers having to buy the game for instance.... 20s of time to read the tiers would tell you pretty much every tier of $25+ gives a copy of the game and a month sub.

    1) People get mad... the end?

    2) What little info there is is spread between these forums, city state's site, interviews, and the kickstarter page. While systems are vague for the most part, the ideas really aren't if you take the time to read.

    3) How many 3 faction rvr mmos have there been? I can only think of gw2 (casual friendly to the max) and maybe the rift stuff, but anyone who played that game before that knows how terrible trion was at class balance.

    4) Because you want to see his ideas come to fruition.

    5) Already answered, $25+ gets a copy of the game.

The fact you think Mark Jacobs hasn't put money into this is retarded, you think those artists are just coming in for free to work on the game concepts? I'm pretty sure he's paying them. Also, if you think its a Doac clone your reading comprehension isn't very good and replying further to you would be utterly pointless. if thats what you think then you may as well call it a WoW clone because he said he wants smooth combat, like WoW...

If it funds and fails, it will just be like the other MMO's I've bought in the last years. A waste of money.

why does it matter that his money is committed after funding?  Why should he spend that money first then find their is not enough funding to finish it?   Or interest?

Full salary disclosure isn't going to happen, but I expect MJ to get whatever he puts in back through a very high salary and bonus's, etc.

Even if the game isn't so great in the end, initial sales will make the endeaver very profittable.  The overall budget is very low, so sales don't even need to be that terriffic.

The project will likely fund though .. MJ wouldn't want to miss out on free money, so he could just meet whatever is needed before the 30 days is up.  He has the money.

If the game fails, then the losers are the pledgers, the winners are the development team who move onto the next great topic people are interested in ..

    1. You lose the money you put in and CSE loses all credit in videogames industry.

    2. http://camelotunchained.com/en/category/foundationalprinciple/?orderby=date&order=asc & Kickstarter front page + updates

    3. We don't know what are the chances of this game being great, but we believe in its ideas. And not "so many" PvP games promised the exact same thing this one does.

    4. That's a good question. You decide if you want to give them your money or not, based on what you know about the people working on the game.

    5. It depends of the amount donated to the project. Less than 25$ : no copy but access to Backers Forums. More than 25$ : at least one copy + 1 month subscription free. It will be a monthly subscription model, cheaper than 15$/month

Guess you have some good answers with this, and sorry for my english :)

Technically the way kickstarter works means you pay for it at the same time. You give no money (card isn't charged) until the project is actually funded and closes out successfully, at which point MJ kicks in his 2 mill and his investors cough up an additional 1. It is a way of probing for both interest and funding at the same time.

And if it just fails there will be much sadness.

  • DrakynnDrakynn Member Posts: 2,030

Backing any kickstarter campaign is a kind of investment and investments carry varying degrees of risk. The bad thing about kickstarter is if the game suceeds well you do not get a share of the profits based on your investment as you would with a real investment.

I would think that if the game should get funded and fail to produce a product that the important think is that the money is accounted for and that no fraudulent behaviour has occured.

Most supporters of the game wonder why you even bother posting here (on a forum dedicated to the game, itself) when you clearly don't support it.  Simply put, you have no vested interest, whatsoever, in decrying the game or in convincing others that the game is no good... none.  You stand to gain nothing, even if you're successful at turning people away.

On the other hand, those here who support the game stand to gain quite a bit by convincing others to support it.  Additionally, we feel as if we may actually contribute to the design of the game by discussing its details.

    1. ( the main one) what happens when this game gets kickstarted but never launchs ( theroetical question not saying it wont)

I believe those who support the game have faith that this will not be an issue.  If it is, the joke's on us and you may come to me, personally, and gloat all you'd like.

    2. where is all the info on this game in detail, most things about the game are extrweamly vague at best, heck i cant figure out more about it then its a DAoC clone.

If you can't figure much out, you're not paying much attention.  MJ is being quite forthcoming about the development.  Of course, the game is in its infancy so the information is, understandably, limited.  Remember, if the game doesn't fund, NO ONE will lose the money they have pledged.

    http://camelotunchained.com/en/

    3. What makes the chances of this game being great more then that of any other PvP or RvR based MMO, when there are so many already that promised the exact same thing this one dose.

I don't see why this is a concern.  You risk being disappointed with everything in which you invest support.  At the least, we can see the development occur.  That said, MJ is largely responsible for creating DAoC which many of us believe is the single best PvP game ever.  Who better to trust in making its successor.

    4. why am i giveing money to someone to work on thier dream project when they themselves wont put money into it before me. (yes i know hes going to add money if we do but he should have done that to begin with, but him commiting to it first would make me fill alot better)

You're not giving your money, so this question is moot.

5.am i going to have to buy the game after investing in the kickstarter, for that matter what kind of payment system will it be. ( this info might be out there i just dont know myself to be honest)

Holy crap!  Have you read anything about this game or the Kickstarter?  Nearly every single pledge tier includes a copy of the game (some include several copies.)  Additionally, there are those tiers that also include several months of subscription.

OK rage away and tear it up, do what you want but please give me actual useful info here, preferably with links sources and facts.

    1. Very low chance not worth even considering. Being in game industry for over 20 years and having milions on account, having good mark on market is not worth do it.

    2. Read fps on camelotunchained.net, there were also many info before KS from MARK on forum posted by him... read his posts:

    http://www.mmorpg.com/profile.cfm/username/MarkJacobs

also lots of useful info on reddit:

    http://www.reddit.com/user/CSE_MarkJacobs

    3. There is going to be ONLY PvP. They don't need to focus on PvE. They can focus on balancing characters only for PvP.

This is going to be subbed game = focusing on having fun for players not focusing on advantages players can get from cash shop

All new games that promised good PvP didn't take from daoc interrupts / cc which AFAIK will be in CU

    4. Because I wouldn't do game like that? Because I have other things to do? He is better than me in doing that? Because it will cost less effort by 'donating' (preordering game) ?

    5. No. You will get for even 25$ tier game itself (digital) + 1month of sub. After it you will need to pay I guess about 10$ per month, which is really nothing comparing to the fun you might get. What's more 25$ for a game in preorder is pretty cheap. It's that cheap because you dont have any agent representing CU that takes probably like 50% revenue.

    Logical response bro.

    1. Sorry - this game has nothing coded. Just a lot of big ideas and wishes - it can fail.

    2. PvP only - sorry most people want Pve with some PvP. PvP only will NEVER survive a long time. That is a fact.

    3. sub game and focused on PvP only - well you have even whittled your market even further.

    4. The cost of a game production is the same whether the lead designer begs on Kickstarter or not. No game has really come out of Kiskstarter and made it yet, especially an MMO.

I'll give the haters this much. It clearly would have helped the credibility of the project a lot if there were a lot more details about a lot of things before the Kickstarter was announced. There has been pieces of info dropped here, on reddit, and other places, but it hasn't been compiled into any kind of comprehensive list of game features like you would normally see for an MMO. Go to the official page and it's mainly just the FP and other promotional stuff for Kickstarter. Now anybody who really cares and wants to know the answers can easily look up all the posts from Mark on any of these sites and read everything he has written. If you are too lazy to do it, then oh well. And some of the questions pretty much reveal the person asking is a troll such as the one about having to buy a copy of the game which is self-explanatory from a 30 second glance at the Kickstarter tiers.

And it would have helped if Mark spent the $2 million + $1 million from somebody else first to develop as far as he could then came to us for the rest able to show actual game footage and screen shots. I have no doubt the game would have funded if he had done that. It's perfectly fair for people to ask how much does Mark really believe in this project if he needs our money before he'll put in his own. I also understand his reasons for doing it this way, but there's no denying it turns away people who might otherwise have contributed some money.

It has already been stated that the game caters to a niche market, not the greater PC gaming audience. PvP games can actually survive for quite awhile if the vision stays true. If stupid things are added which have no place in a given game then support fades, people leave and the game dies. However, that is not something that automatically happens due to PvP being the driving factor of a game, it is a product of bad decisions.

The cost of a game is actually based on the scope of the project, game X does not automatically cost the same as game Y because they are both MMORPGs. To say no game from kickstarter has made it yet, even to add in that no MMO has is not proof that it can't happen. It is really only a matter of time before it does. MMORPGs were once a niche genre of game, played and enjoyed by an audience much smaller than today and they not only survived by thrived (as exhibited by MMOs becoming what they are now). A well developed game launched to a relatively untapped niche market could easily survive if done right.
