People really need to stop fighting and arguing and realise that this is pretty much our only shot at a good PvP game any time in the near future.

Stop complaining about ToA and Warhammer, Mark knows they both sucked it up, and I am sure he knows how to fix and eliminate those issues in this new game.

Will there be some problems in this game? Likely so, I'm sure there will be some things people don't like in the game, but I'm sure there will be a lot of things that people DO like too.

Seriously guys, to all the trolls and naysayers, think about what you're doing. This is THE PvP game. If you like PvP I'd suggest you back the game, because to be honest if this one fails the kickstarter, a lot of developers are going to look at this as that a lot of people don't care anything about PvP in games.

Nobody is perfect, and maybe Mark made some mistakes in the past, but man, he is very willing to work with the players and fix whatever is messed up. That is the whole point of the Alpha and Beta slots, so that WE can test things out and to help shape the game into the best thing that it can be.

With the current state of MMORPG's are you guys happy with the games that keep being put out? I know I'm not. And this is our chance to show it to everyone that we're not happy with the polished turds that keep getting pushed out to us to play.

No more getting forced into a queue to get into a lame instance.

Sure kickstarter is a new, and kinda weird way to get a game created, but whats the difference? Its no different than preordering a game at gamestop, except you actually get some nice stuff along with it.

In a nutshell, stop complaining, and looking for reasons to bash the game, and realise that this may be the only even remote chance that we have to have a good new PvP MMORPG within the next 5 years. Lets face it, Elder Scrolls Online is just going to be the next failed attempt at creating the WoW model.

This is THE PvP idea for sure.

Perhaps one day it will be THE released PvP game, once enough blind rats throw money for it to be made and then pay to buy the game aswell.

    Here's hoping...

No no dude, if you donate to the kickstarter you get a copy of the game as well, unless you only donate at the $5, $20, or $35ish ones.

You don't have to donate to kickstarter then also buy the game later.

TESO is being released in the nearer future than CU, so you're a little off. It's way too soon to know whether TESO will be another disappointment like WAR or GW 2 or if Matt Frior can actually make a new MMO that successfully mixes PvE and RvR of course.

    it could be soooo simple.

If you think there is some chance that its a game you'd like, pledge 25$...its kinda pre ordering the game...and you lose nothing if it doesnt fund.

Well hey, put me down for 3 points of ignorance! :)

That's a good start, dunno how I missed that part. Cuss even if I am extremly concerned about the path of KS development, I am hoping for this one.

    Thanks for the heads up!

I don't think that this is the only hope for a "good" PvP system. If anything, I expect it to be zergy in nature with large gaps of power between veterans and people that just started based on gear/RP.

So part of my problem would be that I haven't heard anything concrete about how these issues are going to be addressed. Why would I think this game is our only hope for good PvP when I fully expect them to run into the same issues other RvR or even 2 faction based games have run into?

If this is your only hope for a PvP game - you really need to get out more. This is just a gleam in someone's eyes and it has not even have any planned mechanics, etc. It is all pipe dream right now.

AND another CU thread? This game is currently all smoke and mirrors.

It's not really CU, but a general malaise in the MMO market. GW2 was supposed to be the next big thing, the answer to everyone's pvp prayers...and from many reports it is just dead in the water.

Zergs are going to be a part of any RvR game. The only way to get rid of them is to have instanced fights where the game enforces that each side has the same small number of players. There's plenty of MMOs and MOBAs that do that well. If you want that kind of gameplay, go elsewhere.

The RvR games that have tried to make the gap between veterans and newbies mostly flat have not done well in the long term. Character progression in RvR is a core reason DAOC was fun to many players because even your months or years old toons still get stronger when you play them.

Although there are a lot of details unknown about itemization, we do know it is all gotten through crafting. It doesn't seem like there will be much of a gear gap between veterans and noobs. If anything, it's likely to be because noobs will use the starter gear while veterans will use high quality crafted armor. But that's something that should disappear within a few days or weeks of playing a new character and earning enough gold to buy your own crafted gear.

I disagree, I think EQ Next will be a fantastic pvp and pve game. Sure it will have quirks like any game, but i think if we can look past SOE's history of not being the knight in shining armor, then we can agree that Everquest, and EQ2 are both highly respected games that are severely underappreciated by the new generation, and im hoping the next one wont be another disappointment like a lot of releases in the past few years.

Sorry, things dont work like that in the real world.

While I agree with you that this might not be THE PvP game if and when it launches/funds it doesn't mean it can be a PvP game. One would be hard pressed to find an MMO which wanted to put PvP before anything else. This is a relatively unique idea. Maybe it's a bad one but there seems to be some support for it obviously and if this game getting created, via kickstarter, it leads to the potential of other niche games being created the same way. Publishers aren't ever going to make something for a small market as it has become their sole purpose to make money for their investors. If this game succeeds and opens the door for others to follow it only gives the consumer more choices which in turn gives them more power.

We haven't seen a decent tri-faction PvP game since Daoc and even then it had it's problems. Is this because the system is flawed or because no one has been able to implement correctly? When you design a game around PvE content first you are forced to place PvP in a supplementary role. We know this isn't going to be the case in CU.

A friend who isn't a backer used this analogy and I felt it was rather fitting. Games like EQ, Daoc, UO were all great games. Then WoW and it's clones came along and innovated and made most things much more user friendly and the quality of life for the MMO gamer went up. Not everything WoW and it's clones did was great but there were a few nuggets of goodness. So one could look at older MMOs as sort of a horse chariot. All the MMOs focused on PvE content back then. So you had games which offered different systems but were all mainly focused on PvE including Daoc. This lead to EQ, UO, Daoc, etc. all being the same kind of chariot but PvP was really just an extra horse to make you stay on the chariot longer. It was a rough ride but served a purpose. Took you on a trip and cut down travel times. When WoW came along is was almost as someone jumped to the future and brought you a Honda Civic. Great ease of use, extreme comfort, etc. but and it still got you from point A to point B, much faster and less bumpy. Yes you gave up some uniqueness because all the consumers wanted it. Thus the manufacture of this product needed to be made as easy as possible to serve the most amount of consumers so you could offset the cost of creating it. WoW was the first civic and all of it's clones were just Civics with different addons (leather seats, cd player, etc.) but because WoW and it's clones were PvE focused it players riding in a Chariot could upgrade to a Civic. Most liked the quality of life improvements some did not and remained with the chariot. PvP still just remained an addon.

What  CU may do, is bring those of us who are tired of driving a Civic with different addons, a different model of car completely. Will it be a Pinto, Lambo, or somewhere in between only time will tell but clearly people are tired of only having one choice in the model of their MMO. This game could be the first step towards that process beginning. I think there are plenty of people who would play this game just because it may offer something different. Now if they will fund it is a whole other issue, frankly it's different from person to person, but that doesn't mean a market for this kind of game doesn't exist. As far as the developers history, his name is the one that suffered when it came to Warhammer but people forget there were two other parties responsible for the mess that Warhammer was. To some it doesn't matter and that's their choice. This doesn't mean he doesn't know how to develop this type of system and moreover doesn't mean he shouldn't try given he can gather enough support.

"Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth."

Thats my point of your bad example.

To defend Jacobs, and his creating games...you give an example of someone that made nothing being able to "learn" and "change"...Jobs stayed the same, a salesmen that sold whatever the company he was working for at the time was selling.

Also, there is no "trirealm" world the make crazy...there are DaoC fans...the very premise of this thread is massive hype based on nothing, just having what jacobs says its going to have does not equal that the game is going to be able to do remotely what you "hope" it will do, for all you know, DaoC merely had the perfect blend for you and even the slighest change could ruin it all...much like a certain expansion for the game did for many people.

The only thing some people need to realise, is that just because they like the IDEA that is CU, the rest of us do not need to have it shoved down our throats, none stop, day after day.
