HELP!!! New System Crashing/Unable to boot BIOS HELP!!!

Kzang151Kzang151 Member Posts: 149

*I posted this other places with multi posts, but adding them all here)

I am having issues with my computer freezing up when I play Eve Online. I log in, select my corp tab, click and start typing, then it makes a weird noise and freezes. Event viewer says critical error for power kernel 41 (63) which is a generic code.

When I turn off my PC, and restart, sometimes the mouse isn't showing up, and I have to unplug it and replug it back in.

Furmark ran fine. I am running Prime95, and its running fine so far. I can't run memtest86+ because I can't get into BIOS. They did a legacy BIOS, and not UEFI. It is impossible for me to hit delete in time for it to boot up the normal way. In advanced restart, since it isn't UEFI, my USB bootable with memtest isn't showing up.

Temps are fine according to my fan controller, which stay at 30C or below.

I'm using a logitech G15 keyboard, and a g9x mouse.

I reseated the RAM, and I pushed on the GPU a bit more to make sure it was in.

Furmark score was 1835 (30 FPS; 60,000ms). Min FPS was 31, Max was 32, Avg 30. At resolution of 1920x1080. Max temp my GPU got was 65C. (From what I read, cards will detect Furmark is running, and throttle the card down)

Itunes works fine with audio, youtube, and etc. I disabled the nvidia HD and uninstalled the driver, and still no dice. (I'm using mobo audio)

I'm wondering I just need to reinstall windows?

I'm not sure how I can get to BIOS so I can boot from my USB to run memtest to test my RAM. I've been trying to fix this problem for about 5 hours now.

While running Prime95, (according to speedfan) my CPU temp is Core 0 69C, core 1 65C, core 2 62C. I don't see a core 3??

GPU is 32C.

Speedtest only detects 1 fan, which is at around 1.4k RPM

Also it was making a weird clicking noise. I opened up my case, and couldn't tell what it was. I closed it back up, and it was still doing it, then it just went away.

Edit: I just launched Diablo 3. It was fine, until I entered the game, and at the loading screen, it went BEEEP and froze like it does with Eve Online.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I did Furmark again, but this time the 15 minute burn in at 1920x1080.

Maxed at 75C. Fan speed never went over 49%. GPU temp is at 36C about 30 secs orless after furmark.

27557 frames, 30 FPS, 75°C

Windows 8 64-bit build 9200 [No Service Pack]

Edit: Also I just restarted my computer, and my mouse wasn't working, and had to replug it in, so it isn't the mouse that is causing the crashes.

Guild Wars 2 seems to work fine. No crashes. I ran around for about 5 minutes. No problems

Edit: Just logged into Diablo 3 for a few seconds. No problems. Going to try Eve Online now.

Edit2: Eve Online crashed like it did before.

Edit3: Tried Diablo 3 Again, crashed at loading screen again entering the game.

hate to say it but the problem could be windows 8, one of the reasons i've uninstalled mine (windows 8) for the moment is because it crashes repeatedly on some games, currently im using xp and everything is working fine, but you might want to consider a dual boot system for the moment, particularly if you can get hold of a copy of windows 7/64 bit..  im hoping that the issues with windows 8 will be resolved once they release a service pack for it. image

Start a Command window in administrator mode > At the C: prompt type in the following: sfc /scannow > press Enter key > go do something else for 30 minutes. > determine the results.

Here's a google search page about the command.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=sfc+%2Fscannow&aq=f&oq=sfc+%2Fscannow&aqs=chrome.0.57j62.13526j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Uninstall mouse drivers, remove mouse from device driver, disconnect mouse, restart windows, redetect mouse. install mouse drivers.

Uninstall and Reinstall EvE from the internet

I don't see anything obviously wrong with the hardware, apart from being a poor value for the money (Sandy Bridge-E is too expensive, a 1000 W power supply is too expensive, and a GeForce GTX 660 Ti is too expensive for what you get).  JMicron-based SSDs have been problematic in the past, and while they have improved some over the years, there hasn't yet been a favorable review of one from a reputable site, so I'd have stayed away until that happened.  But while that could cause poor performance, it shouldn't cause a crash.

If you genuinely can't get into the BIOS (holding down the key or pressing it rapidly and repeatedly doesn't work?), then one way that you can kind of test memory modules is to pull out all but one of them.  The one that remains may need to be in a particular slot; consult your motherboard manual to determine this.  Try running games on just one memory module and see if it crashes.  Then pull that module out and put a different one in and repeat.  If one module crashes the game and the other three work fine, then you've found your culprit.

If the game still crashes no matter which of the four memory modules you use, then bad memory probably isn't the problem, as it's unlikely that all four modules would independently be defective.

Is the system overclocked at all?  If so, then it could be as simple as an unstable overclock causing crashes.

If anything is overclocked set it back to default settings. This should be step 1

If nothing is overclocked then skip step one.

Step 2 will depend on what troubleshooting you have already done.

I have windows 8 here and pla both Eve and Diablo so its not that.  Suggest removing/reinstalling games and graphic drivers.  Could also pull out cmos battery for a couple mins to reset.  Maybe bad sectors on Disk?

I think your power supply is defective.  You might also be drawing too much current from your USB ports on the motherboard.  The mouse not working unless you unplug it is an indication of that.  What else do you have plugged in to your USB ports other than your mouse and keyboard?

Find another keyboard to test your RAM.  If you can get a PS2 keyboard, use that to get into the BIOS.  USB keyboards aren't always ready fast enough to press delete in time.

One system I had needed more voltage on the RAM than the motherboard thought.  Check with the manufacturer and see what they reccommend.
