My brother wants to pledge either $1000 or $3000. He was wondering on how detailed custom built houses could be. He wants the Hearst Castle or the Parthenon. Not joking. This would be a question for MJ I guess. How big or unique can a custom built house be?

It has to be within reason and fit the theme of the game.
We can't be having novelty houses here that look like something out of Dr.Suess.

It would be my guess that the houses that get build for players will end up as the top tier houses available for everyone to build. Just the founders will get them for free (if you don’t count the pledge money). And the highest pledgers can get homes that may be guild halls.
This would help reduce the development time if they did not have to do duplicate work. And that way we don’t end up with the Disney castle in one realms housing area.

I'm not too sure about that grog, I know the islands are going to be completely custom, along with the Inn. They have to fit the style of the realm they are in though I think, but other than that I think its up to the guys who got them.
I'm not sure if the house is the same though? And I'm guessing the house will be in the safe area, just like the Inn and Island, so you don't pay a ton of money for somethign that will just get destroyed.
So you mean.. the pentagon is out?! Damn, time to change my pledge! :-)
While we do not know the specifics of how customized the houses will be, I will speculate for fun.
Given that there are going to be over 100 custom houses, and given that making custom textures and models is time-consuming and expensive, I think the level of customization will be limited. If CSE was going to let backers submit things like castles they wanted replicated, they would need to make the tier cost $10,000+, not $1,000. The amount of time it would take to create something like the Parthenon from scratch is far too high to be economically viable for $1,000.
My guess is that there will be a few base structures, textures, and decorations, and that will make up the bulk of the customization. You may be able to do a bit more, but I would not expect too much extra.
As for the inns and islands, I suspect they will be more customizable, particularly the islands as they will mostly just be large expanses of terrain that will use textures and models, like trees and rocks, already created for the rest of the world. From what I have seen, building out generic terrain once all of the assets have been created is not terribly difficult. If someone requests a small forest, a pond, and some hills, you can pretty much replicate those aspects from other parts of the world already built.
Anyway, I pledged at the island tier and when I hear more information about what control I will get I will let others know, if it is not already public knowledge.
Well the house tier is sold outbut looks like the $3k tier is still available.
I wouldn't expect a huge castle but I would expect a nice multi-room home. I pledged at $1k and I have an idea of what I'd want but it'd depend on what, if any, limitations exist. The house I want isn't huge but it is awesome

In Shroud of the Avatar they allowed backers to get first dibs on the waterfront properties. What if you had a house next to the docks. The docks that ferried people to player owned islands. You'd probaby see a lot of business.
