Thats the day when Planetside 2 died. Not sure if its a good idea to listen whiner community.

I left the game when i heard  about that and back then i was hoping that hackers are getting dealed with but it seems like they are still present and rolling too.

This is the same thing that Planetside 1 had at the start and guess what that game lasted for years.  So talk about a overreaction, just another player that didn't play the orginal so they think they know what is best.

As for hackers, yes they are a pain but SOE has GM's that do come on often.  If you spot a hacker send one of them a tell.  Also broadcast to the faction that the hacker is on to TK the SOB, and usualy when they find them they will and often.

You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

I tried AoC but couldn't stand playing it after the first 20 levels.... the combat is brilliant though - I really enjoy that aspect of it.

EQ/EQ2 just feels way too dated for me, same with DDO and Vanguard.

GW2 is a very good game but you have to buy the box, no sub fees though (does have a cash shop which is 100% optional).

LOTRO is a very good, well thought out game but for some reason I could never get into it. I can't put my finger on why that is, something about it I don't personally like.

DCUO isn't a bad F2P game if you like comic book style / action oriented games - you can also play this on PC or PS3 if that's your preference (note, servers don't overlap so you can't transfer between them).

Stay far away from SWTOR. I was a huge fanboi when the game was still in production but what a huge disappointment. I wont get into it here, but making it "free to play" made it even worse IMO. It's so restrictive, so much time wasted there just moving around, trying to get your starship, etc. Other parts of the game are very good and it runs very smooth but personally IMHO it was WoW with lightsabers and felt pretty terrible after about level 30 or so..... again, my opinion.

Aion is now free to play and the grind to the top isn't as bad as it used to be, but I personally think you'd be better off investing time into one of the above instead.

TERA also now went free to play and it looks very promising, I haven't played it enough to really comment (the camera/movement/angles are ... odd to me ... but I think that's just because Im not used to it) :) Overall it looks good, and I've heard very good things about it.

There's a TON of choices right now on F2P games. Pick a few you think sound interesting, check out their product features and then download one to give it a try. What you like might not be the same things I like.

    Good luck!

All this game that mentioned are awfull and booring, as I told you ! Your last hope is Neverwinter that starts on April 30 !

The problem is there are no good games out not even p2p, you will play a good game only if my Idea will succed creating a huge game that I have in my mind ;)

http://planetside.station.sony.com/ theres download link somewhere if you want to try it,first you might find out that its not free to play then maybe you still open 20 accounts to every side and pay monthly for all of them ? and you will find out maybe that theres lots of features that are missing from PS2 also.

Anyway that is still the day when PS2 died (NGE 2 pretty much)but there really is people who searches that kind of communities, good luck and happy hunting.

I'll remain a member of Mabinogi until it crashes and burns.  It's f2p but worth buying a pet or two.  I'm an art fart tho and few peeps are music and art nuts like me so like I said check out mmohut they have everything catagorized and deal only in f2p.

Long time ago I was in the Air Force and went to my training school after basic on a Navy base. Close to the end of training both everyone in my Navy class and I got our duty assignments the same day.  Each of them got assigned to a ship and they were pissed.  Well I got my assignment in upstate NY ( very close to home ).  Needless to say everyone was both mad and jealous. I turned to all of them to say YOU JOINED THE NAVY what did you expect ?.....Think about that !

Now I work for the Department of Defense. This is kind of like being in the Military but without the uniform. I travel around the world and work for all branches, I see it all.....I would only recommend the Air Force or the Marines, they have much higher standards and way better education and training, add that life is much better.

Last I would say, If your going this summer I would drop the Video games and I phones NOW....The withdraw will be very bad in Basic Training............I would also suggest running five miles a day and be able to do a lot of pushups if you Join the Army or Marines. Your life would be soooo much easer in Boot camp :)

I''ve reeeeally been considering the Navy but everyone almost universally testifies that the AF is superior, so I'll be looking into that first. I hardly play any games at all and am making a thread like this in the vain hope that there's something interesting.. no withdrawl here.

Whatever service you pick, take your training very seriously, especially if you have signed on for something specific.   An acquaintance of mine joined the Air Force to be an AWACs radar operator (with the eye to becoming an air traffic controller).  He failed one of his courses, invalidating his contract, and the Air Force bounced him to ....  Munitions Handler.  He spent most of his tour in b**f***  Upper Peninsula Michigan, 75 miles from even the slightest signs of civilization, hauling bombs in and out of storage.  Not much civilian application for that skillset either.   Lots of times for games, I bet, but not the way anyone'd want.

The Navy probably has something similar -- or you might get to work in an un-air conditioned laundry, washing clothes for a ship stationed in the Persian Gulf.

I liked both AoC and Vanguard for MMOrpgs.  PoE is a pretty good 'diablo-type'  if you like point and click movement.   Warframe has space ninjas!

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Another vote for Age of Conan here. Started playing it a month or so ago and ended up subscribing to the game because I enjoyed it so much.

    Currently Playing: DAOC Uthgard

Previously Played: UO, DAOC, Shadowbane, AC2, SWG, Horizons, COX, WOW, EQ2, LOTRO, AOC, WAR, Vanguard, Rift, SWTOR, ESO, GW2.

Age of Wushu is the best F2P MMO... it is the best one F2P or P2P.  Very immersive pvp/pve mmorpg, with lots of new features.

Oh of course I'll take it seriously! I'm graduating college this year and I'll French, Latin, German, and Ancient Greek by time I enlist. I want to be a cryptolinguist so I should excel in that sector.

Good!  And cool, too.   It would be terrible to be a cryptolinguist stuck in Upper Michigan!

Cryptolinguist, Latin... man, you'd love the Hell and Bach investigation mission in TSW :)

(ok, it's not really encrypted, but still... great mission)

Providing you are ok with a pure pvp mmo and have a machine to run it.

Another vote for Age of Conan, it's free all the way up to 80, no class restrictions, only some inventory and AH/bank restrictions. Even a couple of the early raids are accessible.

Unlike SWTOR you get a fully functional UI and it doesn't feel like they're trying to nickel and dime you. Well worth a look. And it still looks good compared to a lot of more recent MMO's.

    Good game.

It depends on what "Type" of MMO you want to play. There are a lot of F2P MMO's out there, so..yeah. To name a few(Some of which have already been mentioned)

For MMOFPS/TPS - PlanetSide 2(Truly "Massive", has a small balancing issue, but it's not that big. Get in an outfit the first chance you get..), APB: Reloaded(Basically cops and robbers with amazing customization, the only other "MMO" that tops it in customization that's out on the market now is Champions Online). If you want lobbys, ect...GunZ is a bit dated but a ton of fun. New game that just hit Open Beta called Warframe is also a lot of fun, you're a space ninja..basically.

For a "Superhero" MMO...Champions Online again, has amazing customization, but the story at times can be lack-luster and the way PWE handles the cash shop kinda sucks(But that's PWE). DC Universe Online has a good combat system, but almost everything else about the game is meh. At the cap you're basically forced to either grind for gear or PvP, or both.

For your generic Fantasy setting- Always will recommend EQ1/2, but outside of that DDO is good until level 10, when you really have to start paying to get the content, LoTRO does it a bit better.  Vindictus has a good combat system and runs off of the Source engine, but quests are way too repetitive.

Sci-Fi/Post Apocalyptic - Global Agenda is pretty good up until level 40(In my opinion). Most of the time it's sitting around waiting for a match(PvE or PvP). Star Conflict is a good space shooter, but is lobby-based. Fallen Earth is a meh sub-sandbox MMO, don't know much about it though. Tribes: Ascend is another good "Lobby-based" MMO

These are just a few, there are plenty more.

Disclaimer for those of you who think lobby MMO's aren't "MMO's", I put those on there because they use the broadest definition of it, and since they are also on this website. Please do not flame, rage, ect this post just because of that. May the pizza be in you, always.

I'll also vote for AoC. F2P till end game. Then of course you need to sub if you want to survive. Another good one is DCUO...

To put it simply, I'm no longer interested in paying large sums to acquire an enjoyment I'm not even certain of, and I'm sure many of you are in the same boat.

So what can I do for free?

I recognize there are WoW private servers but those seem like empty things that are really mere shells of what the game was.. I can hardly persist in them.

What about those other games? Like Warhammer and Age of Conan? Are those f2p? What IS f2p? Is the new Star Wars game f2p?

I do own Warhammer and Age of Conan, mind you. Though those and WoW up to Wrath are all I have.

    +1 for sound advise.

Then again, there is something to be said for a last hurrah.

But a side note - cell phones aren't allowed in Basic Training?  What about calling home?

Played: Ultima Online - DaoC - WoW -

yes I agree, Age of Conan, best experience I had with an MMO recently. Awesome game, great community too and lots of amazing stuff to do with guilds (guild city building, sieges...). Spent some bucks on the additional DLCs and a mount, lots of fun with it

LOTRO and AoC are both worth trying -- LOTRO is huge and manages to evoke Tolkien pretty nicely.  SWTOR is there as well, but that's a love/hate sort of thing you'll have to figure out.  Luckily you can test 'em all without any cost except download time.
