I come from the DnD>MMOs>"not as fun as they used be" lineage. I play prolly 2-3 games a year including 1 mmo and really havent loved a game in years. A week in, this game shows so much promise. It isnt for everyone and the learning curve can suck, but do yourself a favor and give it a shot. Be patient and enjoy the translations. There is good fun to be had out there.

I agree. They've made a really solid game. The first week or so can be extremely confusing, mainly due to the rough translations. Sure some western 'standards' like full voiceovers are missing, but it makes up for that with a very entertaining and diverse gameplay. Anyone who is sick of copy/paste themeparks should definately give this one a try.

another thumbs up from an ol' timer

and it is true that confusion reigns for about a week, there is plenty of helpful info on the forums and even in-game chat - mostly on your school channel as opposed to the world/local where it is hard to garner information for all the gold seller spam

and don't be put of by the open world pvp - not a pvp-er myself so i usually end up running away or dying but death is nearly painless and you don't lose your stuff

Glad to hear you guys enjoying AoW. I've been playing on and off for a few weeks now but haven't really settled in yet to have a proper go at it. One day I will, as I love the Wuxia atmosphere of the game. It's a refeshing break from months of swords and boards. Just have to pull myself away from a mix of Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite and the current beta "rodeo"  rotation.

I'm also really enjoying this game.  It weaves all the features together into a world, which has been lacking in most "modern" mmos lately.  Of course, it is far from perfect, and there are other really promising games on the horizon (repop, archeage).  However, it is the only mmo that has been released in the past 5 years that has the diversity of gameplay to keep my interest.

Age Of Wushu is the best MMORPG out in a LONG LONG time!  I have been having a blast and there is SO much to learn.  It is kinda like EVE Online except in China...  and the graphics are obviously WAY better.

Agreed. It also runs very well on my mid-range system, even with all the settings maxed. I get a constant 60fps everywhere, and the only time it drops is in places like Chengdu where there are tons of people around. Even then, I never go below the high 40s, so I'm satisfied.

The lag spikes are a pita, but I expect that to get better as players start spreading out. Another new server might also help alleviate that (as well as the increasing large queue times during certain times of the day) but it still remains to be seen on whether they will open another anytime soon.

I believe they are opening a new server on Tuesday, to correspond with the Gamestop release.

Has there been any official word on that? The admin on the AoW forums (Earthquake) said that, "We will not be opening a new server on the 23rd." a few days ago, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that they reversed that decision. Long queue times definitely aren't something you want your new potential customers to face right after they buy the game, after all.

I'm also really enjoying the game although even after a week I still am a bit confused with alot of aspects of the game but I think this is what is making the game so enjoyable , for me at least. Age of Wushu has tapped into that "Sense of discovery" that i haven't had since the first time I played a MMO.

I think the one thing this game really excells at is you feel like you are playing in a real living breathing world.

Yeah. I agree. It's been a while siince a MMO actually felt "unknown" for me. Most of the stuff we've been getting lately was documented day 1 (and even before) and all used same mechanics. AoW for now feels fresh with all it's crazy ideas and lack of documentation which encourages peopel to to actually discover the game on their own rather than follow pre-determined template/guide.

LOL gratz!!  Ya, it is taking me a while but I am starting to figure out Cultivating my skills.  I rolled an alt to keep my main fed and the 2nd time through I am understanding WAY more of what is going on.  Getting to the 2nd and 3rd set of skills is where the game really starts getting good... i am so excited by my kung-fu and I have never even been a karate fan.

Have fun and we are definitely rock'n on White Tiger server!

I was looking at TSW, but I am going to try this instead.

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

Maybe i missed something when i first tried but i thought combat was horrendous. DOes it get any faster than the first 2 hours of play? and i also read there was a huge difference in play from f2p and subs, true?
  • AresPLAresPL Member UncommonPosts: 292

check link above and see how it is

VIP is good if You dont have much time to play, other way not worth it at all, You only gain exp faster then non VIP, can work offline to get unbound silver or lvl skill offline, but if some one will kidnap You it will be stopped so...  nice option is that VIP can set offline stall for 4h

Just checking back. This game has some issues, but it is incredibly entertaining. Once you get sort of acclimated, it is all on. You arent doing stupid quests to level so you can get abilities to then later do "endgame" stuff. Right off the bat you are escorting caravans with your guild to build your castle, raiding other schools to get new abilities, battling other schools, etc. Its an incredible broad spectrum of "progression" its crazy. The threat of pvp is always there and it gives things an edge. Its much more exciting to have you caravan raided by other real players.  Do yourself a favor if you think you might like it and give it a try.

One story: Along one caravan route theres a bridge. It can be a tough impasse with gankers there. For like 2 hours the other night, some dude just guarded that bridge. He was getting a kick out of it and it sure helped us. It made me think "How cool is this, this cat just doin what he wants, to be awesome, and it actually helps, and he is iAwesome"

Age of Wushu is the most highly anticipated new MMO worldwide. The game has more than 20 million players in China. AoW features the martial arts style of Wuxia fiction. Players direct their character to not only do the kicks, punches and jumps of martial arts professionals, but also to fly across the screen doing gravity defying moves. Characters can walk on water, run vertically along walls and between roof tops.

Just throwing in my two cents.  I'm having a ball with this game.  So much so that I have even forced myself to deal with a non-inverted mouse, which is usually a show-stopper for me.  So much to learn, so much to see and do, so many different directions to go in.  I really do think they did a great job putting this one together.

I agree, it's like EVE Online, just asian style, asian movement, you got nature in it, walking around on planets, swinging with weapons, martial arts, different servers.

    Exactly like EVE.........just in China.
