I like eve's model. Cheap client cost(i think it's 5 whatevers) then sub only, no shop, free expansions and a way to play for free once u have the ingame money if u so wish. Although I would like to see some games dropping their sub prices tbh.
So we can safely assume FTP can be regulated to the kids/cheap with no cash which seem to be very vocal but represent very few of the actual gaming community. These tend to be your cheats and hacks to boot so a win/win I say.
Where is the completely free option for all the leechers who don't pay for games?
Also, where is the "sub with pay2win cash shop and in-game advertising" option in the survey?
The sad thing is, one game actually tried a sub with pay2win cash shop and in-game ads. I can't remember the name, but it had horrible graphics for the time it was released and it had a cops vs robbers modern theme.
How many games actually fall into the category of subs with no cash shop? WoW? Has a cash shop. Eve? Has a cash shop. Ultima Online? Has a cash shop. I'm really hard-pressed to think of any MMO without some form of cash shop.

I wouldnt consider those cash shops as you dont have to use them to enjoy the game, purely cosmetic dosent count in my books and generally in a sub based game the shops are nothing more than fluff which provide no advantage to any player. I dont even like boosts in the shops.
Sub, no cash shop so everything is attainable in the game.
If a game needs to have a free option then also have a sub where I don't have to worry about any lockouts. There is the added foot traffic a "free" game brings however and MMOs are about playing with others. It is still annoying though when things are only available via cash shop when you pay a sub, such as with SoE. They have the best freemium model IMO so at best "F2P" is annoying .
B2P with CS-accessible items through in-game gold ala GW2. Best system I've experienced yet. Of all the things I've gotten off the CS, I only paid real money for 2.... because I wanted to.
Your list excluded the traditional payment method... merely B2P.
I prefer to buy the game and play it. No subs. No cash shops. If you like the game, you buy the expansions as they are released. If you don't, you don't buy the expansions. Simple model... worked perfectly for years... wish they'd return to it.
Worked perfectly for single player game not mmorpg and the title of the poll is for mmorpg.
The sub model was the first for mmorpg it worked perfectly for years and still work like a charm.
I prefer subs, only sub without retail entry cost to buy a game you will never own. B2P and MT are fine with me, but I feel Sub is the most rational cost for a serious MMO which intends to continue indefinitely, and you have no guarantees on "purchased" software or digital merchandise given the game may discontinue, or may be disserviced for whatever the reason the publisher decides.
Subs offer an ongoing income for ongoing content and service, and it also ensures the publisher has a motive to keep you as a customer, and not just sell you product and stop caring.
But I'll go with anything that is respectful of the customer. Even sub can be overpriced or coupled with bad content or other costs.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, if they get angry, they'll be a mile away... and barefoot.
Sub, no cash shop. Color me lazy, but $15/month and I have access to everything means I don't have to do anything more than budget the $15 and play the game.
Having played some F2P and Hybrids, the cash shop is really interesting as an enticement to boost. I can see why it appeals to both the player with cash/points and the developer. But the votes so far in this thread are even more interesting.
Monthly subs are annoying as are the P2W cash shops that come with most F2P games. So I prefer B2P. In the end any MMO has to be very good for me to keep playing it regardless of its payment model. But having a monthly sub raises the bar it has to clear for me to consider buying it in the first place.
Sub no cash shop. The F2P model is a lot of what is wrong with MMO's today. Of course, this is purely MY opinion, and I expect most people will disagree with me.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
Kinda surprised these forums are mature enough to vote for subscription model. At least we're learning in that aspect of gaming.
F2P is the same as pay to win. Never forget.
Um...no? Free to play isn't the same as pay to win; they're pretty different things. First of all you have to consider how people are going to define pay to win. I don't see things like experience potions as pay to win; one person plays for two hours and another plays for two days, but in the end they're still in the same spot. The person that pays to get there faster doesn't ensure theirself victory over the person that didn't. In fact the person that spent two days instead of two hours playing may have become more familiar with the mechanics of the game because they had to play longer, so they might come out ahead in the grand scheme of things.
Well I do like getting things for free rather than paying money for them, so...F2P (provided the fun isn't spoiled by a cash shop that offers things which create an unreasonable barrier to play). What a silly question.

sub no cash shop.
b2p with very limited cash-shop, no gameplay advantages over non-users.
I started this thread and i have 0 to no interest in CU in fact I cant wait for it to go away honestly I despise pvp in my mmorpgs.

Someone started a thread here a while back which is why I made this poll, It was to the effects of f2p is the future of mmorpgs.
Clearly from this poll you can see its not the players who want it, its the greedy corporations replacing passion in game development for profit.
Worked perfectly for single player game not mmorpg and the title of the poll is for mmorpg.

I like a sub, with a cash shop for random crap.
Yea, I buy the holiday theme stuff and what nots, but I don't want to buy the hammer of awesome killingness.
