Looking for non-casual character progression MMO

xKopogeroxxKopogerox Member Posts: 68

By non-casual I mean no limit to the pace I can obtain items that can improve my gear or my skill. If it's a themepark designed, it must have content/updates going that will keep me for 6 months to year playing it hardcore.

MMO's like this existed in the past like Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies.

Everquest, Everquest 2, World of Warcraft, Rift, and even Age of Conan all have non-casual character progression with frequent updates to endgame content.  Wildstar likely will too if you don't mind waiting.

When you mentioned World of Warcraft, I stop reading. I did say

EverQuest 2 should keep you going quite a long time. It's the game I keep going back to.

honestly don't think there is a no limit on gear MMO that i can think of.. I know some games have AA systems that can slowly increase your stats for a good long while like EQ1.. didn't play eq2 long enough but they may have a similar system.. Rift has a pretty lengthy AA system now.. but they all cap on gear at some point..

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. Eve Online or back to UO

    FFXI.

With it's gear swapping system you'll be needing almost every peice of endgame gear ever released for one reason or another. Ability to change jobs (I think there are 20 or 22 now) with one single character. Crafting that you'll spend weeks and months skilling up. Magian trial weapons, Relic weapons, Empy weapons, and Mythic weapons (these will take you so...so...so long) will keep you at it.

The game isn't as hardcore as it used to be (no more waking up at 4am for a 200 person spawn camp), but still takes dedication. Leveling isn't bad now but there's a ton of stuff to do once you hit level 99.

Tibia, no level limit. It is 2D but it is still hardcore. Conquer Online, 2D/3D isometric view basically. Quite heavy on gear. And there is EVE online with there time-based skills, its game world is the largest there is currently.
