Thanks... False information flying around which is why I'm asking questions...

Former xFire user... I only wanted a game tracker and messenger, not a screenshot taker, video recording, broadcasting piece of bloatware.

Did they update the 10 second delay? If you can't be killed in under 10 seconds, then it still qualifies as spamming.

People are hitting max level in very short order, it could also be a criteria for some in the whole "Is it a mmo?" debate. For some there is a lengthy long journey to the top in their definition of a MMO.

It's Cryptics, 'vision', of an MMO.

Read my other posts if you want an explanation.

All I can add here is that people on these boards have very short memories....

You will need to spam those potions at several points in the game, especially right when you hit 60 and have no gear.  Shit is rough.

It was originally unveiled as a online action rpg.  At least initially, cryptic was hesitent about throwing around "Massively Multiplayer".  "Massively Multiplayer"  happened after the PW acquisition and development continued beyond the original launch date.

I kind of agree with other posters that is some sort of hybrid between MMO and Online Co-Op.  There are some "persistant/shared areas" but the meaty bits are going to happened in solo and group instances.  It at least feels that way.

Can someone please explain to me how NW's combat is even better than the likes of that found in TERA online? I didn't find the combat to be true-action combat as one would see in TERA...I think that is the hype speaking, not facts. Not meaning to troll, someone just enlighten me, please.

much faster paced at least in the early levels.. just feels better imho.. abilities i found overall more enjoyable.. all personal preference though I'm sure many enjoy Tera more

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

While I enjoyed Tera - and enjoy Asian themes , the crowd in Neverwinter both in game and on the forums is polar opposites.

Having an actually enjoyable community made the founders pack well worth it to me.

After wasting 60 on Defiance and 40 on Unholy Wars , this game seems well worth it to make me until ArcheAge launches here in the NA.

Was quite surprised how fun it is overall.

Interesting. Your spending money on DFUW then also spending money on game like NW. 2 polar opposite games. Literally. lol

Interesting indeed. What kind of "fix" exactly are you looking for? Or are you just a MMO junkie like the rest of us? :D

Exactly, its all down to personal preference.

Personally I found TERAs combat duller than ditchwater, but some love it.

I have only done cleric and up to 25 at the moment.

Single combat is pretty simple, but you can do clever stuff such as stepping aside or backwards when you visually see the opponent lift its axe for example.. not just double tabbing when the red circles appear. You can also use obstancles for tactics, although I am not entirely sure all of that is intended (ex: pulling a room and stepping outside the door to block range attackers).

Group combat is very fun as cleric, it has that battlecleric feel to it. You both attack and heal, although healing is not as your typical dedicated healer role. Also group combat you can be clever about things, placing yourself at the right place, avoid huge effects, not overhealing when 100 baddies charge, and pulling adds before a boss instead of fighting all at once, and so on.

All I can say is, it grows on me.. not perfect by no means, but deeper than what the first 10 levels reveal. I kindda prefer it over gw2 style combat, I just feel more in control and having enough time be tactical about it. Still, I am not an awe, there are loads of problems and its unpolished. Question is if this is hit and run or they are going to keep improving on this game the next few years, then I could see it go big.

And no it is not a mmorpg by my definiton, it is a rpg game with some world elements but with emphasis on dungeon crawling - Just like it should be, no more no less.

ps. Do yourself a favor, if you got a high end gfx card, open up the advanced gfx setting screen and pull everything from standard 100 to max, it makes everything even the ugly character models look so much better - seriously.

Not really.... I think DDO comes closer with its world design.

Its a 3rd person action game like Tera or Defiance. I wouldnt compare it to GW2 at all.

We aren't the ones bending definitions.

The original real meaning of MMORPG - this is not one of them.

The marketing version of MMO (meaning, it's online, and has at least 4 people playing together) sure. But literally everything from Counterstrike to Halo COOP is an MMO then.

It gave me the DDO feeling when I played it in closed beta.

what are you going by.. if you search the word MMORPG anywhere this game fits the definition of a MMORPG in most every sense

I don't know where he is pulling his definition of mmorpg out of but it certainly stinks.  It's an mmorpg.

MMO... Massively Multiplayer Online ,a game which is capable of supporting large numbers of players simultaneously.

RPG.. Role-Playing Game, is a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional settins.

    Neverwinter =mmorpg

    Not hard to understand..

  • grimalgrimal Member UncommonPosts: 2,935
As some others have said, it feels very much like DDO in playstyle and concept.

Oh jeez. The age old "literal definition".

Know why that doesn't work? Because suddenly everything becomes an RPG.

Mario Kart? I play the role of a kart driver, it's an RPG!

    Call of Duty? RPG!

Neverwinter, is there ANY area in the game where you have 500+ people interacting and working together? No? Not massively multiplayer, as it was originally meant.

This fits with the modern version of MMORPG (as does virtually every other game with a multiplayer feature) but it does not fit with the original meaning of MMORPG.

so basically 1 game is a MMO? well UO i remember having a buttload of people all on top of each other although dunno if it was ever 500+ in the same area i doubt it.. EvE is only game i can think of that has battles with thousands of players.. guess swg wasn't a MMO because no way that engine could support 500+ on screen at once fighting/interacting without it being a complete slideshow.. even 50+ started bogging things down like crazy in that game..  lineage 1 had some MASSIVE battles forgot about that one

UO, SWG, EverQuest, Darkfall, Dark Age of Camelot, Eve, Vanguard, L1, L2, Asheron's Call, they've all done this. They are MMORPGs.

Diablo, is not an MMORPG. Neverwinter 1 back in 2001, wasn't an MMO. And neither is this.
