My god, was someone living under a rock?! LoL Well better late than never I guess... Dont want to sound like a broken record, but FF7 is one of the best RPG's ever created
7 was good, but i liked a lot of things in FF Tactics better for it's unique designs to some of the systems and character designs. However, FF3 in the US is still the best RPG ever made in my book - i still play that game to this day. Chrono Trigger is a possible tie... I'd have to debate that one for a good long while if you asked me to pick just one. My SNES finally died a few years ago and i kept both of those cartridges with all my saves on it because i didn't have the heart to throw it out even though i'll probably never see it play on an SNES again.
yo. for once i agree with Sygmas. Final Fantasy VII is one heck of a game in the FF saga, the 6 IS the best of the series, but the VII is second.
as for best RPG ever made, that is so much debatable that is not even funny. I liked really much Planescape: Torment tough so i will leave it at that.
to the original poster: the game can be quite hard to beat if you go trough it completely. Now that you did that, take your time to find all the damn secrets that game has. in particular, get a gold chocobo so you can explore the whole world. doing so will give you THE most powerful summon ever created for any game. the 12 knights round. We are speaking 12x non-elemental ~5000 damage each!!
Couple of this summon, one or two 4x ZERO-bahamut and Yuffi last weapon (that does 9999 damage each and every hit) and the last Sephiroth goes down so fast, but SO FAST that you can't believe your eyes.
ok. that is all

I agree on Planescape. I don't think i could actually pick a favorite RPG. There are so many that I've enjoyed for months on end. As for PC games, Baldur's Gate series was great as well as Icewind Dale, the vampire series was amazing too. Xenogears story still leaves me in awe to this day, and the new Xenosaga games hold a lot of potential for another amazing storyline. There's so many to name, I still miss the glory days of SNES RPG's, and the original FF on NES. It's impossible to say which one is the "best" RPG, I've enjoyed so many, although lately the RPG market has been a little disappointing - starting with the release of FF-x2.
It depresses me that as new games are coming out, they're placing more and more importance on graphics and flashy crap for commercials and box screenshots to sell then a good story line and admirable characters you get attached to. Maybe it's just me though, missing the "good ol' days"

Wow, that sums up everything I've been thinking about the new RPGs. We need games like FF6, FF7, Crono Trigger, Lunar, and Shining Force II again. I miss the good ones.

While the Rpg market isn't as good as it used to be these days, there is still a few decent games that have come out. Both the Shin Megami Tensei have been quite nifty, and Tales of Symphonia was a good, if slighty unoriginal, Rpg. Shadow Hearts 2 isn't half bad, and Dragon Quarter was a nice game that was somewhat creative too.
Of course, these Rpgs don't match the quality or quantity of the 93-95 Snes days, or the 98-00 Ps1 days.
definitely a great game... definitely very overrated...
sure was a huge sense of accomplishment back in the day though... beating FF7 was like the nerdy RPG players version of puberty...
knights of the round + omni-slash = buhbye sephi o_0... it's obscene how much more powerful u are with just those two abilities... oh, and that 4x cut move is fairly awesome too
as for being the "best RPG ever"... mmm... naw... although it would deffinatly rank among the top 5
I dont see how people are so crazy over it for so long, in being able to remember how you beat everything. The FF series is my favorite, and I was crazy about FFX/VII for the duration I was playing it and maybe a bit after. What I don't get is how you get 99+ hours out of such a game. It might be that I did not exactly roleplay, I just played it as I would any game like Halo for example. I have a tough time roleplaying in a single player world (Thats why I like MMOs).
Im not bashing it or flaming anyone, im just curious becaue I have read numerous threads on FFVII topics.

FFVII was the game that truly brought japanese RPGs into the western mainstream, it's success is hailed as the main reason for the large increase in translated eastern RPGs reaching these shores ever since. Obviously there were popular RPGs before then but for some reason the western import industry didn't take square's hints until FFVII.
It's my favorite game of all time alongside Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Morrowind. It might not be the best RPG ever, but it's the single player game that I have spent the most time lovingly playing over and over again.
I wish I had found the Final Fantasy series before it went 3D, it's a shame that I don't find retro games to be very attractive. FFX wasn't all that bad and I'm looking forward to FFXII (damn, just realised that I sold my PS2). FFVII Advent Children should be pretty good but I won't be holding out for a remake even though it would make me immensely happy!

LMFAO! I just paused it beucase this is the funniest thing I seen this month. I'm laughing so hard tears are comming out of my eyes!
BTW. FF7 I'd say is the best RPG on Playstation and had the best graphics of 97-98.
There's gonna be a re-make of it on the PSP, most likely with updated graphics, and a bit of a tweek somewhere in the game. Like Introducing a new weapon or something. People say that they are gonna make like a pack with both Advenmt CHildren and the VII sold as a special pack, which is a good idea, and a money saver for us.

I was always hoping that square would make a sequel of FF7 because its the best Role Playing Game of all time
