WoW is done for me, stick a fork in em.

First off I would like to say please no one flame for having a opinion.

So I have been playing WoW for about 4-5 months now.  I got it for xmas and have been playing non-stop ever since.  I think I have played every race and every class to at least level 10 (but have played many long past level 10).  And before I got the game I had done a lot of research on it, I didn't just go out and buy it.  And I had to say that when I first got it I was itching to play it.  And of course my internet went out, so I had to wait 2 weeks for it to get fixed.  So finally the guy comes out and fixes it, I was so excited to play.  Now granted I am a pretty experienced MMO player, but I was extra excited about this one.

So I get on sign in, dl the patch and what not, just fenin to play this game.  I couldn't wait.  I get in and start to create my char.  The first thing I notice is not much customization, or as much as I am used to.  But this is expected seeing how I have read that a lot, but have heard that the armor and what not sets you a part from everyone else.  So I start by making a Orc Hunter and I get in.  And I am loving the intro movie, it gets me really hyped up to get going.  I am al ready to make a difference in this Horde world.  So I get in and my first mission is to go kill some boars or some shit.  And I am like "Ok, newbie mission this is going to get better."  But the truth is it doesn't.  All you do the game is either kill stuff or deliver something for someone.  The only time you have a little fun is if you go to a dungeon or if you go raid the other side.  I just have to say WoW has no WOW for me.  So if your thinking of getting this game I would have to recommend against it, as it did not appeal to me.  Now if you want a game that takes a 9 year old's intellect to play then yea I recommend it (and yes a 9 year old can play this game, my 9 year old niece got to level 10 in a week when she visited).  But this is just my opinion frankly I would just wait till Guild Wars comes out and get that.

4-5 months non stop and you leveled many class/race combos to at least lvl 10. Well It takes about  2-3 hours on average to level 1 character to lvl 10. Something doesn't smell right here if you have been playing non-stop.

Yes a 9 year old could play WoW and GW also, what's your point?

Oh I got to the point finally, this is yet another WoW sucks get GW post.

In 4-5 months of non-stop playing you could usually get a level 80-100 character on most games, On most games it takes me around 1 or 2 hours of hard training to reach level 10. Id try WoW if there was a free trial or something.

I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.

Gee i wonder why there are soooo many of these "WoW is not what i expected" threads?

Could it be that it was over hyped and underproduced?

Much like every mmo with a huge budget for advertising they should have spent the cash on the game and not the magazine ads.

Truth of the matter is i played WoW for 2 weeks and it just doesnt hold a candle to SWG at this very moment. Most mmo's need a year or so of work after launch.SWG is reaching a point now where it is a great game and with the next expansion and combat revamp it will be even better.

Give WoW a year or so and it will be the same im sure.(just not my kind of game hate that fantasy stuff).

    Want to ENJOY an mmo?

Dont start a guild and dont be a leader or volunteer to be coleader or captain.

    Just play the damn game:)

You didn't read his whole post and you didn't quote the whole segment. Way to spin it there fanboi he said he played "Several Way past 10"

Also, "playing constantly" means different things to different people. If he's got a 9 year old niece odds are he's in his 30's or late 20's and has a full time job and possibly wife and kids of his own. Like most of us ADULTS out here that play MMO's.

Maybe I'm reading more into his post than you are but I got the feeling he played 1-2 hours a night.

    Err
I find this difficult to reconcile:
    "Quite Challenging"
    and
    "39 in 7 days"

Err if you hit 39 in 7 days how is that particularly challenging? Unless you mean 7 days of actually /played time. Then I could see how it was challenging.

Note: In 7 RL days, even playing 4-5 hours a day, you'd be lucky to hit 20 in EQ2 and in Lineage II? Forget it. It's even tough to hit 20 in DAOC in 7 days, and the first 20 levels in that go fairly quick.

Most of the creators of an MMO are concerned with making a quick profit, then make the game better after they have had the quick influx of cash. (I for one thought SWG sucked way too badly, I quite after half a day, but thats for another topic, another time). I did get exited over WoW after watching the "onyxia eliminated" video, thats was very cool. Anyway, I do wish the MMO creators would balance graphics and content, instead of making a game with graphics, and no content or other things.

elnator, you used his words out of context.

razorback meant that he's gonna be 39 YEARS OLD in 7 days..

he is simply saying that he's that old and yet its still challenging.

One did. SOE it's called EQ2:
    Great/Good Graphics
    Tons of Content
    New

Betcha you don't play it though. Probably because you "hate SOE" for some immagined slight against you or because you felt let down about SWG or got sick of EQ1 :)

Me? I love SWG :) It sucked in beta, it sucked at launch. I intentionally DIDNT buy it at launch because I hated it in Beta. Those of you lemmings who DID buy it at launch DESPITE those of us in beta shouting at the top of our lungs that it wasn't worth playing it yet deserved what you got. I bought it for $19 bucks a year later (last June in fact) and have loved it since. It's a totally different game and has improved dramatically in the past 4 months alone. And the long promised, much awaited Combat Revamp is in Test now.... as well as another expansion and new ships for JTL....

Actually elnator i did try to play EQ2, but i couldnt, know why? Didnt have the video card specs. I have an Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 440 with AGB, 64 meg. Pretty much average. I probably would have liked EQ2, if I coulda played it. And I never did play EQ1 either. If SWG has improved, ill probably try the trial again.

I did read the whole post unfortunately. Obviously the point of their post  was the last sentence which they should have just stated right away and let it go at that since it was unsupported by the previous gibberish.

I am not spinning anything if I quote them exactly. Why do I need to quote material which is irrelevant to my response. I didn't take anything out of context.

If you play 4-5 months nonstop for 1-2 hours per night, you do the math, then you should be WAY past lvl 10 on average. Lvl 10 is the average they listed, if the average was higher then they should have stated a higher number. Either way, the level of their characters doesn't support their argument that WoW sucks and GW is better.

Don't you find it odd that the promotion of GW appears out of context at the very end, with no mention of having played GW or any comparison between the two games. Cmon are you that naive? You need to think more critically when you read posts on these forums.

Actually I did find the promotion of GW (A game that basically levels faster even than WOW) odd but you are still misstating what he said. He didn't say his average level was 10 he said he had played every race and every class to AT LEAST level 10. That's not the same as "An average" of level 10. See the difference? And he further stated that "Many long long past 10".

But I do agree, generally, that it was odd to see a complaint about the game not being challenging in the same post with a promotion for GW, which basically isn't going to have any level grind at all for all practical purposes. Basically guildwars sounds a LOT like a fantasy version of PlanetSide, without the XP grind. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to try GuildWars :( I'll probably ask for it for my birthday as a 'change of pace' game since it has no monthly.

God these I'm a fanboi of one game so I have to bash as many other games as i can even tho i havn't actually played them are getting out of control and need to be considered spam, they arnt even creative anymore, this just sounds like a copy and paste from a previous post yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that.....

I'm almost missing the days of the EQ2 vs. WoW days atleast it was all just one post and wasn't spamming across the boards.

  • ElnatorElnator Member Posts: 6,077

Bah EQ2 and WOW both suck. They're just rehashing the wonderful world of EQ1...

SWG, EVE and, to a lesser extent, MxO are the only MMO's currently 'breaking the mold'. I'd throw UO into the list but it was one of the mold 'setters' :)

I agree that WoW is very simple and better for younger players.

Since other people are plugging other games on this thread, I'll take this chance to plug AC2. The game is much more complex, with more options for customizing your character, and more variety in quests.

    Try the AC2 free trial.

    Tried it, hated it...

AC2 is produced and "supported" by Turbine
Till they show they know how to provide proper support to their game I'm staying FAR FAR away from it. I tried it and was mega-unimpressed. I may re-visit AC2 in another 6 months but I was really un-impressed with it when I free-trialed it.

WoW is not as fun as other mmorpg's I have played but like somone said earlier. Give it a year to really get good. This next patch for PvP is going to be a blast and I plan on them only getting better. ::::28::

Yeah, in my opinion.. if you didn't like several things about World of Warcraft some of those things will still exist in Guild Wars. I would never equate the two in the manner the original poster did, since the quick leveling in WoW bothered me as well - and yes, I do like GW, but I don't like that aspect.

Anyhow.. I do agree that this is just another horrible "People have to play the same game as I do so that I feel special!" thread. I'll change the tone... don't play Guild Wars. Any of you. I am planning to play, and I'm a very mean person. I enjoy polluting the environment, spreading second hand smoke to people with otherwise healthy habits, and the destruction of government property. You can buy it and the expansions, so that the game can keep up with costs, but.. never play!

Special Note: "Do Not Play" offer does not apply to residents of Azerbaijan, teens who have been hospitalized for anorexia, or elephant cadavers.

Just fill the first part in with and obsurde action you know u wouldn't like to be doing before u even do it and fill in the rest around the first topic. and no matter what you put in there u still look like an idiot for doing it for 4-5 months.
