It's amazing how 9 years later WoW is still the only evenly executed MMO

A couple months ago, I joined a predominately female World of Warcraft gamer community on Facebook mainly for the social aspect of wanting to remain in contact with the player base of the game; seeing as how the main reason I had stayed for seven years is because of that very community. Well a couple of days ago, Yahoo ran a story on how Activision-Blizzard reported a loss of over a million subscribers over the past three months and how they admit that number is bound to drop even further. So the comments on the article's posting began flooding in... and you know what I noticed? Out of the comments that were left, majority of them said things like...

"It's pretty much lost its appeal, and I've been thinking about cancelling my sub, but my brother and good friends also play it."

"Community is the one reason I stayed for as long as I did. So it's completely understandable that you would say that."

"The only reason I stayed playing for so long was for the friends I made."

"I actually stopped playing because it's hard to develop community now."

"It's so sad, over the years so many faces i knew just faded away never to be seen again."

Which only supports my theory that the only thing that made World of Warcraft as successful as it was is the community itself. As I previously mentioned, I played World of Warcraft for seven years... that being said, I am not trying to demean the game in any way shape or form. However, for a game that had no unique features upon release and borrowed from multiple predecessors which shared the same genre? It sure had inexplicable success. Success that I believe could only be attributed to an incredible marketing team and a community of unfathomable dedication.

ok, from someone who's played both games.

you have to try to like eve.  it is very hard, especially at first and ESPECIALLY if you play alone, which is totally not the way to play eve.

    but.

once you get into the game and experience its depth and intrigue....  and embrace the notion of losing stuff when you die and see it as a good feature not a bad....

you will find the game you seek.

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Not many Immersive games out there that let you get lost in them now a days! Too many games did a copy-paste of WoW! WoW to me at one time from a little after launch until a bit after BC was a great game.  After that Blizz turned it into a lobby-instance game I could no longer take it. Alterac Valley became a place to farm Honor, dungeons became a joke, and the Deep Rich Story became a full laugh!

GW2 is pretty good to me and Immersive. FFXI was at one time until they basicly raped the game, I mean you can reach level 99 in what a few hours...!

Waiting to see how Archage will be.

Below is where we can disscuss and come up with new ideas for Sandparks!
