Haha, very true - and normally I wouldn't even believe somebody online who says 'I heard from my friend....'
But.. Thats exactly what happened. Believe what you want.
Hope your "friend" doesn't get fired by providing those numbers, unless it's a official statement from Perfect World. Of course nothing wrong with your "friend" telling you but it shouldn't be info you (OP) should share with others.
Meh. I don't care. I highly doubt Perfect World does either. This is a very rich company who is use to making a lot of money. In fact, this game is probably the talk of the company due to its recent release and success. The producers are probably sending daily emails out company wide discussing all the company records they are breaking with the title.
If the company and game were struggling, then yes, the issue would be a lot more sensitive. But they aren't.
6 millions is absolutely nothing in the mmorpg field. I hope they will keep their success more than few months, but that is highly unlikely. Most of that 6 million probably came from the founders pack, which cost 200$, which people bought to bypass 5 hour queues and to get to play the game 5 days prerelease.
Also f2p is not in any way better than p2p, the problem is that most of the games released the last ~5 years haven't simply been worthy of a sub, not really even the buy boxprice. Games go from sub to f2p, because they are bad games and no one is willing to pay for them, even the fans.
Are people serriously calling Neverwinter a AAA mmo? I mean... ugh...
6 million is nothing... particularly for a launch... that's like selling 100,000 $60 boxes... When I thing about all the games that sold almost a million boxes sometimes more... and are struggling now... AoC, WAR, SWTOR, Rift, even FFXIV... and that game was terrible.
I'm almost surprised it's only 6 million with all the people I know who suckered for those founders packs.

Yeah, I don't know the quality of the game. I haven't played it myself but I always considered Cryptic a 'Triple A' developer ever since City of Heroes was released. I always thought they were in the same league as Turbine, Sony, Blizzard, Funcom, and Mythic in terms of big name mmorpg developers.
6 million dollars is indeed low - but again, this is a free to play title. There is no box sale.
Think about it like Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends. Heroes of Newerth cost $30 when it came out and made a good amount of money its first week. League of legends probably didn't make 1/10th of what HoN made when LoL was released. But LoL is free to play, the population kept with the game and now its probably the biggest money maker in gaming.
Free to play trades in the sudden explosive sales of the first month for the long sustained sales through the cash shop.
Six million isn't that much money, but it sounds like a good start. I have no idea why this post got everybody's panties in a bundle. I'd like to know the split between ZEN purchases and the various Founder's Packs. Angry, sleeping anime dude tried to sound smart, then in order to not have to back up that impression, started to toss out insults, impugned the entire website, and pulled out the whole "Google it, dude!" argument. A fine product of America's college system, to be sure.

You cant compare LoL to a normal mmo. The population of LoL now compared to release is ridiculous. MMOs tend to peak at release and only go down from there and that includes earnings too.

Guild wars 2 is buy to play, not free to play. Planet side 2 isn't an mmorpg, it's an mmofps. I picked my words carefully for the title since I think the vast majority of the people on this site came here because of their interest in mmorpgs.
It has a cash shop and that makes it the same as any other cash shop game. They just ask players to make a microtransaction before they play the game.
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

I see.
well WoW asks them to make a microtransaction every month or so...or a minitransaction every 3 months...
which part of this is 'free' though ? i get the 'to play' part, i'm not sure what the 'free' part is.
Don't forget the $25 mounts and $10 mini pets available in the Blizzard store. Those give WoW, for all intents and purposes, a cash shop, making WoW, for all intents and purposes, a cash shop game.
Call be dubious but I find 6 mill profit hardly feasable. I doubt people have spent 6 million dollars on the Zen store and hearsay is hardly substantial and can be nothing more that a fan spouting false coodoos in an attempt to hype their game. Until they make an official announcement then it didn't happen.
Also I would hardly call this a AAA MMO and hardly the first, there are a number of other AAA MMOs if you consider this a AAA that are F2P.

dear OP i dont know for sure what this game is, but hell i know this aint a AAA mmo.

Um, how?
No, seriously, how did you come to that conclusion? Have you even played the game, because I have so far played to level 15 and I have yet to see a single thing that could make you come to that conclusion.
