hey guy's
Ok i want to explain this without starting an argument topic. basically to me, mmo's lately feel to easy unless you reach endgame and get a good guild/dungeon crawling group, i cant find many mmo's that challenge the player in the single player aspect of the game, mobs generally feel like mobs, and unless your overwhelmed by accident gathering to many mobs to AoE. you dont really feel like your challenged
To give an example of challenging. i mean dark soul's challenging. in dark soul's , every fight mean's something, you feel accomplished when you come out on top, you feel like you have just beat down impossible odd's and come out standing and its extremely sastisfying. and i really cant find this in any MMO
Basically. i love the idea of dodging in combat, strafing, and gameplay were you have to consider your move against an opponent before you make a move "do i parry his attack" , "do i dodge it" "do i dive in and start swinging"
To many game's ive played lately boast this sort of action combat system, requiring the user to truely keep moving around and dodging. but i dont feel it, i dont feel that urgent need to exit combat anymore than back in the day's of wow, i dont feel myself having to strategically think before a fight
so im after a game that really bring's that punishing combat and think before you act type gameplay that dark soul's had which is truely unique to anything i've seen
Latest MMO's i have tried
Neverwinter - Only become's hard at level 60 with group's in heroic in dungeon's. other than its a cake walk along with pot spamming
Guild wars 2 - PVE is just simply to easy, i cant really say much more
Tera - PVE was really plain. again group reliant at endgame, they tried to make it harder with BAM's, but with the right setup they were simple to beat solo. just kite and shoot = win
- i could make a list of mmo's i have played in the past, but its just to long to type out really. but you can see my point. now dont get me wrong these arent bad game's, i adore guild wars 2, so please dont take this as bashing as i understand that the game's arent meant to be punishing like something as hard as dark souls
I did look into wizardry online, but after reading many review's , there seem's to be to much core mmo 101 features missing. its like, they had the right idea, but they implemented it poorly ( from what ive read ), poor graphic's , pvp is far to player controlled. allowing way to much griefing on new players. and the combat system is "bare-able" but without strafing and poor camera control's, it just doesnt sound like they got the implenetation correct
( feel free to correct me if im wrong, im just going on review's for that game ) along with sony making it pay to win
So im open to any game's that might give me more of a challenge. and a much more punishing sense in each battle. were i feel good about it

Play Vanguard, seriously you will be crying with joy.

Yeah, one of the last bastions of solo challenge in the MMO world. The game isnt perfect, but it certainly offers challenge. Even on my disciple which is fairly overpowered, if you arent paying attention you can easily be overwhelmed.
wow im surprised by the quick response. ill definatly give vanguard a try. but the graphic's are really turning me off from what im seeing on youtube video's. i guess im very picky. lol, my girlfriend hates how picky i am. makes it tough to find an mmo we both like
As for path of exile, just not my cup of tea. im just not into the way it plays or the top down view
and My Apology's about the section i posted in. i honestly did not notice the LFGame section. if an admin wants to move my post to the correct section i would appreciate it. rather than posting 2 of the same topic
Yup i have a 55 disciple, Tuurgin Shammy, Bard and Dread Knight plus numerous other classes. I can't understand people like the OP, does he really want what he claims to want, wouldn't he be playing Vanguard if he did.
I'm sure people make these types of threads just for a raise.
No offence. but your post is a little vindictive. i didnt start this for any posts like this to happen. Yes, i am fully aware of what i am asking for , but at the same time i am new to this "type" of game. as i started with dark souls only about 1 year ago. so i hadnt really looked into what the mmo world has to offer. as i had followed most of my friends to game's such as guild wars 2
Vanguard isnt exactly the most advertised MMO. i had not heard of it until now. And not everybody who ask for what im asking for would be aware of the game
Really! you need to crank it up lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tG-mah-P9U The pally is level 19 and the mobs are level five if you are wandering why they are going down so quick, point is the graphics don't look bad at all.

I guess my question is why ?
Why insist on solo content in a game genre that in itself is defined by the words massively multiplayer ?
Lolipops !
Ok i'm sorry, i meant no offense. Problem is people keep making these types of threads/post "i miss the open word" or "bring back open dungeons" or "i wish mobs were harder" or "i want deep crafting" it just makes me laugh because there are games that have what they are asking for.
If they choose to play linear themepark mmo's like GW2 or any of the other instant gratification MMO's it's their own fault.
Yes, it's like Tera.
Path of Exile is an ARPG, he said MMO.
Best post in this thread yet.
As for graphics of Vanguard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOp-XJZ6Pqg he is a dread knight. Also he is talking to an NPC using diplomacy system. Also this is all noobie content on the isle of dawn which is not the true word of telon, it's a separate island, you can start in the main world if you want.
The last two characters are a ranger and cleric, clerics wear plate armour and use heavy weapons in Vanguard.
not this little gem again...when will people learn that MMO doesn't mean MMOTG (Massively Multiplayer Online Together in a Group)
You will be out of luck for challenging solo PvE with modern graphics. Noone does it anymore.
Everyone wants a nice easy leveling path for the casual players, then options for hardcore gameplay when you reach the cap.
You might want to give TSW a try. In addition to the combat stuff, there's the investigation missions, where you really need to use your brain. Combat has dodging and 7 active / 7 passive skills which you can swap out with 525 abilities, and mix and match any way you like -- lots of theorycrafting goes with the game, but also pre-made decks you can just pick and go with. No classes, and you can equip any and all weapons. Modern day setting -- a mix of X-Files and Indiana Jones. I would say the solo quests are a step harder than many MMOs but all very doable.
(Lots of people handing out trial keys, so you can try before you buy)
Play Vindictus with a sword lann.
Action combat, plenty of dodging, challenging to solo, but if you want people are there too.
"As you read these words, a release is seven days or less away or has just happened within the last seven days those are now the only two states youll find the world of Tyria."...Guild Wars 2
OP you will need to look to some old school games to find any solo challenge. I really don't know why the genre has moved so far away from solo challenge but it has. EQ and Vanguard have some challenge but they are not exactly action combat.
TSW can be challenging with it's lack of/weak CC. GW2 soloing champions is pretty fun but regular mobs are way too easy.
I'm still holding out hope that GW2 will add some solo challenging content. They seem to have the combat system right just need to add maybe a half a zone of veterans and champions.
Vindictus and RaiderZ are not bad but if the OP wants a more full featured big company MMO experience I'd say go with TSW. The graphics are amazing, combat is challenging solo, some missions require you to use your brain and the game even includes an in game web browser so you can research missions if you get stuck.
Figuring out the most effective solo build is an important part, as well as figuring out what weapons you enjoy playing with because a bad build can make your life so hard. But the fun part is you can mix skills on the fly - if you're out of combat, you can at any time go to the skill wheel and change what active and passive skills you use. Heck you can even intentionally go with a less then optimal build if you want to challenge yourself more (although outside the first zone you likely won't need to!).
Definitely a challenge to level and it's fun. The game overall takes leveling in an entirely different light than other games which makes it interesting and fun. The setting is more Lovecraftian horror with modern day myths mixed in, but it takes place in real places in modern day Earth so it's really cool. The main storyline centers around three secret societies (three game factions). If you want to try the game out for three days there's a buddy trial key request post here: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/356621/Please-Post-All-TSW-Buddy-Key-Requests-Here.html
You should ask every mmo developer since WoW the same question. It's what has ruined the genre in my opinion.
And apparently vanguard is the best game that no one plays. I need to check it out. I hear endless amounts of praise for it yet people say it is barren of a playerbase.
