I thought this was funny.  I pulled this right off of Neverwinters website.  Some of you will see the irony in this, others as usual wont see it and still think there is nothing wrong with the state of our games, or how they are marketed verses the actuality of what's happening.  Publishers are literally talking out of both sides of the their mouths now in one sentence.

" The best part about Neverwinter: it's free to play! Become a Hero of the North today with a Founder's Pack purchase!  "

Yes, as in it has no subscription or box fee?

Oh look, you twist definitions to serve your point.

If you have to explain it, it's no longer funny.  And it was funny.

    ...

He was saying its ironic the game is free to play, and then they try to sell you something in the sane sentence.

    What are YOU talking about?

I guess you are right, games should be entirely free to play, game makers should work for us for free.  Maybe they can throw in McDonald's advertisements and Abercrombie clothes in all of their games so that way they can afford to eat?

Yeah... I'll say the way we have it now is better.  I'd rather not stop playing every 5 minutes to watch an ad Thx.

What exactly is funny? I'm really trying to understand. Is the game not free to play? I'm playing it now. I have not purchased a box or a subscription. I have not paid 1 penny for the game or the game time. How is this "ironic"? How it this "funny"? I'm playing the game completely free. I do not have to pay a single penny to play it. Perhaps you or he can explain to me how it's "ironic" or "funny" for them to advertise the game as free to play when that's what its actual business model is?

He made a good point. Funny!

the words free to play really need to be changed to something more accurate for those people who just don't get it. Free to start playing or no box fee would be a lot more in line with what most games are going for. free to play is catchy but this rage people seem to have towards anything that cost money in the games is kind of pathetic.

Too many ppl think games should be 100% free for everything and game makes should be doing all this because they love to do it, not because it's a business.

[mod edit].  Let's try this again, and this time, forget about the game, and just read the words:

" The best part about (whatever): it's free to play! Become a Hero of the North today with a Founder's Pack purchase!  "

It's just a funny observation about an advertisement.  It could be about anything -- the way they strung the words together in those two sentences make it funny.   And now, it's no longer funny because I've had to explain it.  /facepalm...

Funny is subjective, and I didn't find it funny.  Ironic, but not funny.

Since when is Tuesday a direction?

I think the inherent irony wooshed over his head.

The thing is, it is totally free to play...I got level 60 cleric and didn't spend a dime on him :S

Either people are very easily amused or they're trying to split hairs into 16ths to sound smart when in truth they're just rearranging words distorting the truth to prove them right.

The game is F2P, that means it is free to download and free to log on and play on the servers, becoming a Hero of the North means buying a bundle of content to augment your gameplay... that's like laughing when WoW makes you pay for another expansion really..

Unless you learn English from a song...there's nothing ironic about it.

Its not ironic, its a contradiction, but its not even that unless you skew the structure. Alannis Morisette has a lot to answer for.

You should have just put up the quote and left it at that, the quote is quite amusing as it is.

As bad as you guys think this game is and its pricing setup, their devs are still upgrading and improving their servers for the ever increasing player population.

When did they add an active spell checker to this site?

They didn't. You'll have been upgraded to IE10.

You sir are missing the point. Most people realize games need to make money . or they would not make them

But the point is really that these games should not be called F2P , and asking for money in the same sentence is a bit funny.

Problem with NVW is  , well its PWE and Cryptic, the cash shop in this game for the most part is horrible.  Sadly tho  they will make a few million dollars, let the game die, make a new one , reskin it, give it a  new name and repeat the process as long as theres a few suckers left in the world.
