It's more MMO than any other ARPG you've played. When about 30 people were beating on a public zone boss it was quite good. Never done that in an action rpg before.
It's not quite 'M'MO but it still has open public zones that support a large amount of people at any one time. It's exactly like Neverwinter.
What it definitely is though, is a step in the right direction towards bringing ARPG gameplay into the MMO space.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
I'm going to chime in, lets be honest the game is a HUGE disappointment. For something to have the name Marvel Heroes on it, you would think it would be an awesome game. The comic books are just amazing and the Marvel Universe has so much history that you can easily get lost in it. So I was expecting an epic MMORPG and all I got was a ARPG.
DCU failed and this game fails even worse. Lets be honest here, most gaming companies are just trying to release a game with a famous name so they can make money and it shows when you play it.
I cut your post for space but...
How can you be disappointed with a game because you expected it to be something it never even tried to be...and you seem to know what it is but are still mad they didn't make something else.
They made an ARPG. They never set out to make an epic mmo. There's no way a company that size could make one with the budget they had.... Do you go to indie films and complain that you were expecting lord of the rings ?
DCU didn't fail...you just didn't like it. There is tons of activity in game and a loyal following to the game. Again it seems to be you with the problem not the game.
Sure it would be nice to see an epic marvel mmo with a huge budget come out but it's not this companies fault you're not getting what you want.
They set out to combine an ARPG with a larger multiplayer world. That seems to dump it into the mmo genre even though it really isn't trying to be one.

This game is fine as an online ARPG. I think the public zone boss gameplay is what i dislike this game the most. It is not consistent with the lore at all. How often do you see 30 super heroes .. and many the SAME heroes ... beating on ONE villain?
I'm still disappointed that instead of a proper mmo in the same vain as Coh or champions online where I can play along side marvels greatest as my own super hero we get this rubbish with 5 wolverines running around. This more or less guarantees many more years of waiting now for a proper marvel mmo
Much to my chagrin I spent 12 hour downloading the client for the Open Beta and much to my chagrin I discovered this is not an MMO it is an ARPG. /Sad Panda.

12 hours DL, you on AOL bro?

This game does not need to be a MMO.
That is just a mental thing. In a comic book setting, with multiple universes, and all, it could easily be explained. It would not be the first time the same heroes have fought alongside each other, just not ins such large numbers.
Did you ever see the movie The One, with Jet Li? Every time his character died in one alternate reality, it made the ones in all the other realities more powerful. Something similar could be happening with villains, making them all stronger in this one reality, and heroes from the other alternate universes have to come together in one, in order to save them all.
We are talking about comic book stories where similar things happen all the time. Besides, it is really just the gameplay that matters, as this is not an actual RPG.
It may not have "needed" to be an MMO, but it is, and that is not going to change.

True. I have seen "The One". The last fight scene was pretty awesom with Jet Li fighting Jet Li.
I suppose you can always find a comic book angle to explain it. BTW, i can live with it. It is a bit jarring for my taste, and i would like it better as an online ARPG .. but the current version is fun enough, and it is free, so i have no reason not to at least play a bit.

careful what you wish for. Considering who owns all this we may one day see goofy dark lord of the sith square off against jedi knight wolverine in the next "marvel " mmo

just means next kingdom hearts will have a marvel world
and that asidee i played the game for about 10 mins, and uninstalled, it was just plain boreing the older version of marvel allence and such are better then this, and this thing really didnt do anything to make it a MMO other then the common lobby, so i dont understand why it fill like a step back from the other games.
F2P may be the way of the future, but ya know they dont make them like they used to Proper Grammer & spelling are extra, corrections will be LOL at.
Well that was pretty dumb. Didn't you know that was how it would before before you bothered to download the game? Also...that seems like a bit of an over reaction to me.
Do people /uninstal in EvE when other players have the same ship?
Do people /uninstall in GW2 when there are 2 human warriors?
Do people /uninstall any game where they aren't a single one-of a-kind "special" snowflake?

No...
so you really dont get it. you're not pretending/joking?
it obviously wouldnt bother me to see 2x human warriors, but it would bother me to see 2x Varian Wrynn, lol.
the only superhero that can get away with that in this game is any iron-man... cause you know.. it could be anyone or no-one under that armor :P

I knew it was going to be just an ARPG, but I was dissapointed too since it's very very bad ARPG. I tried it for a whopping 10 minutes and could not play any further. I clocked maybe 70-80+ hours in Diablo 3, and a few dozen in PoE so it's not that I dont like ARPGs, this one just felt way too cheap, a prime example of "you wont get anything good for free" which isnt always true with F2P games though. Neverwinter is kinda nice for F2P, and PS2 if you like to shoot at things...
Me and many folks are having fun atm, I enjoy it... Just downloaded two days ago haven't put it down yet. Only bought the one toon I wanted to play, Spidey. Unlocked a few free ones. Did a world boss event, Venom, was like 50 of us beating him down and was decent time, got some phat lootz. Progressing through the chapters, I am on 3. The story is good and interesting. It has some bugs but they are minor things that they can polish up with a couple patches. I find the mouse responsiveness is odd but playable. They need to add more options in regards to this so the user can change the speed of the mouse imo. There is lots of stuff I won't spend money one but will to a degree. Do I want every character? Sure who wouldn't. Will I ever? Probably not (unless I play long enough and get them through rare drops) Will I buy another character? Probably. At the end of the day I find it acceptable if I spend 40 bucks a year on it for some fluff items when it was free. I paid more for most games I enjoy.

face book ARPGs play better then this thing and most of them don't take more then a hand full of months to make.
