My Eve Review

grimbojgrimboj Member Posts: 2,102

Good Points : -
Impressive 3d environment
Massive User Base & Good Community
Large amount of randomly generated quests
No pre-set profession, most skills dont have a cap
Loose control over RL selling of game content allows for profit on ebay (no i did not do this - i didnt play long enough :P).

Problems :-
All skills based on the passage time since you activated them, the skill for anything good takes weeks - months.
Combat system is lame - select a ship, click on gun, select another ship, click on gun.
You indirectly control your ship, its like watching someone else play.
I know this might not be true of everyone but i got bored of the game straight after the free-trial ended, very accurately tweaked free-trial period? :P
A lot of the players deliberately manipulate and aggitate you as the legal system is quite complex and non-existent in specified zones where it may take you a while to understand which ones.

Conclusions :-
This is a patient thinking mans game and I recommend people review where theyre going with it before they pay the monthly fee after being swayed by nice graphics or guilds giving free-stuff.

Wow, really in-depth review, must of played the game for the whole two week trial. Oh well, here we go again...

Good skills take weeks, months : Ummmm, only skills that take THAT long are high rank skills which you want to train to level 5 (max level for a single skill). Ok, a single level of a skill gives between a 2 and 10% tweek on a certain aspect of the game, so really dosen't account for much. However, lots of advanced items (T2 modules and ships) require you to have certain skills at level 5, that's why they take longer to get. Not only this but, some skills also give you access to advanced skills when you get them to level 5 so, there is a point of making them longer to train.

Combat system is lame, select, click, select : Of course it's lame if all you ever did was shoot rats (npc pi"rat"e ships) in high security system belts. They're not made to challenge you, their made to give miners something to deal with while shooting rocks for hours on end. There is ALOT of diversity in the combat end of EVE. This is due to the openess of the combat system itself, it allows for strategy to be employed (not just tankers tank while healers heal BS). I won't get too in depth about the different ways of fighting since I've done a post on that very same subject only a few weeks ago.

You indirectly control your ship : This comes back to the previous argument and also the role-playing of the game. If you read some of the chronicles or even the friggin' tutorial, you'd know why you see outside the ship. Besides that, it allows for very tactical combat to take place.

Bored after trial : Yeah, you played for two weeks, good for the EVE community, we don't need winers like yourself.

Game mechanics are complex : Well, I supose a game that forces a person to think can leave a lesser person with the feeling of being manipulated and aggitated.

Patience : Well, you got one part right, it does require patience and thinking.

Where to go with it : (contradicting yourself) ... you said it in the begining of your own post, "no pre-set profession, most skills dont have a cap", that dosen't just apply to the skills, it also applies to how you play the game. You don't HAVE to do one thing or another, you can do anything you want and if at any point in time you change your mind, well, you can change your mind and do something else.

Swayed by the graphics : Yeah, the graphics are really nice, hats off to CCP. Myself, when involved in large fights, turn off most graphical effects and sound (thx to CCP's latest patch) oh man is shooting stations fun now.

Guilds giving free stuff : Well, first off, there are no "guilds", it's a corporation based game. So, if people give you stuff to join them, it is general to get something in return (it's a corporation after all).

Paying for the game : I'm convinced you never payed for a MMO subscription and lord knows why your recommending people on this subject since you don't even take the time to do it yourself.

Conclusion : Stop blasting games which you cannot get into or simply do not understand, EVE is a one of a kind game on the market and really does not require people downing every two seconds because they feel as they have been ripped off. Guess what, EVE is one of the most open ended games on the market, if you feel ripped off, it is because you ripped yourself off by not investing enough effort into the game to get something out of it.

What a pathetic review. If you don't like mmos why bother? Eve is brilliant in that you don't have to grind, it also allows the new player to gain a skill set that makes them competitve through specialization. The economy is largely run by players and there is meaningful PvP.

As a disgruntled veteran of SWG I wouls have to say that this game is everything I want in a mmo. Give it a go, many will never look back. If you're over 21 and have a positive sec rating look me up in game - Bsf Aurora as I am the recruiting Officer for one of the most dynamic trading and mining corps in Empire space.

Calling him or his review pathetic, whiner or whatever doesn't do anything good..

But I must say that your "review" wasn't a review; it only had your own opinions on it.

Hey Woris, if someone posts a review on a public forum I'm assuming that it is up for comment. I didn't read in the Forums FAQs that reviews are only to be followed up by other reviews?

I made the incredible assumption that it would be ok to have an opinion about that so called review, whats the matter did I insult your mom? The reviewer states in his sig that he hates a plethora of mmos, he would seem a dodgy person to rely on. So yes I did give an opinion as did you, about my opinion.

I'm new to this forum but it seems that you for one are not up for a vigorous exchange of povs - I think thats pathetic too.

I don't know Bsf...As I was reading down the posts I didn't take what Woris said as any kind of assault on you or your opinion. ::::05::

Relax, enjoy and welcome to the forums ::::02::
